| A win at Saints would mean the world to me personally, I'm sick of walking away from their with a loss. Some fans from other clubs might try and wind me up by saing its my "cup final" well, it frigging well is! I would LOVE to walk away from their place with a win.

| Don't see us winning all three, it's a really, really tough run of fixtures coming up in quick succession. 2 out of 3 would be outstanding.

| After our next two we have a run of very winnable games. Getting one win out of Leeds and Saints would do me. I think it will have to come this Friday personally, can't see Saints losing the last derby at KR. They'll feel just as our players did for the last one at CP - they'd never live it down with the fans if they lost that one.

Agreed, but they dont have a Jason Robinson!!
4 points from 6 would do me, and I believe would see us remain top of the league.
What puts in a great position for this run of games compared to last year, is imo, the fitness of the squad, they will actually be more prepared to handle the demands.
It will be a test for Madge, who wont be used to that sort of schedule, thought I suppose having players back up from Origin is similar.

A lot of Stains fans talk about Martyn scoring the last try at CP. It would be great if we could win the last derby at KR, that would be ample payback for that irritation and for the 75-0 humiliation.
If we won we'd have bragging rights for years, particularly if we win convincingly. The Stains players and fans will be desperate to win this one but we should be equally desperate to win. The Wigan players can take a massive step towards erasing the disappointment of the last decade by giving Stains a defeat the Stains fans will never forget and which we will never allow them to forget!
I'm sure SW in particular will have them fired up for this one. Let's give KR the send-off it deserves with a fantastic performance from Wigan to bring back memories of all those superb victories down the years by Wigan at KR. Bring it on!

| Wigan should really be beating Leeds on current form, with Leeds crocked to the hilt.

Playing Leeds - a wounded understrength Leeds will be difficult. '"
LMFAO
Remarkable turnaround?...... were you battling relegation last season?
You made the eliminator and finished 3rd as you have done since 07.
Whilst theres no doubt you are better this year it's not a remarkable turnaround, you are just more consistent under a new coach (no suprises there).
Coming out with 2 wins will hardly show how far you've come. You have a great record against leeds at the JJB when leeds are in form, let alone now, so a win will be no suprise and you've been very competitive with saints in the last couple of seasons.
I know you're looking for signs and indicators.............but the simple reality is you won't ''know how far you've come'' until you win that eliminator and walk out at old trafford. Because the past few years despite inconsistency you've come damned close to getting there and only in october will you know if you've made progress.

| Quote ="Wigan/Leeds Andy"Next two games:
Leeds (H)
Stains (A)
I think will really show us if we are the real deal or not. Obviously the Rhinos have an injury crisis at the moment but it looks like they might start to get some key players back on Friday, including Sinfield and Hall, with the possibility of Smith coming back from RU in time for the game. They won't want to fall 8 points off the lead so early in the season and will be hurting after the last couple of defeats and I expect a close game. Likewise with Stains - it's time to deliver in a derby game and I for one can't wait for Good Friday.
So in our next two games if we win:
0 - our detractors will have some justification that our bubble has burst
1 - (which is what I expect) I'd say will justify our position at the top
2 - we are the real deal and should have even our most anti-Wigan critics worried
If we play for the 80 minutes and sort out some of that sloppy defence that has crept in I see no reason why we can't win both given our attacking form, but I don't see that happening and bizarrely can see us losing on Friday and winning at Stains.'"
You beat leeds easily last year when they were playing decent and had fewer injuries. Were you the real deal then?
Hull thrashed saints at KR, are they the real deal?
Bradford came back from 20 points down and beat saints at kr last season....were they the real deal?

| I can't believe aby of you would think you're going to lose against leeds.
Leeds will be fired up and will try their guts out but they won't have the bodies or the form to get anywhere near a win.
You should win by about 20 points.

Fair Comment, but its different looking at it from leeds point of view as your aim is to win everything
at the start of the season most people said on here they would be happy with a top 4 finish, consistency and a good cup run, some others a final appearance
Only the last few weeks (after the catalan game) did people start to think we have a good chance of winning something
Quote ="back to back to back"You beat leeds easily last year when they were playing decent and had fewer injuries. Were you the real deal then'"
we thought we were until we lost the week after if i remember correctly
consistency really killed us last year, the loss at bridgend for example, i just cant see us losing much to lower clubs this year which is very pleasing

One off results dont mean anything. If we beat Leeds and Saints and you put that with our other 6 wins from 7 games that makes it 8 wins from 9 games. How many average/poor teams win 8 out of 9 games to start the season?

| I'm a little worried by Friday night against Leeds tbh. They're riddled with injuries(which is strange to see after they're hardly picked up even a cold in the past 3 or 4 years) and I think we've already shown an ability to get a little ahead of ourselves. If Wigan turn up with a lesser attitude then they would against a full strengh Leeds side we'll get burned! They have a far better side even with 7 or 8 injuries then Bradford and a side containing Brent Webb, Senior, McGuire, Burrow, Lauititi and Sinfield(who I expect to be back) are easily capable of taking us on and beating us(even if we do turn up mentally tbh).
I just want us to show a great attitude and keep playing with the same style and conviction that we have been doing. It's a huge game because if we can win it we'll not only be a huge 8 points clear of Leeds but we'll go to St Helens with little pressure on us to be fair.
I can't wait for all the games at the moment tbh and Friday should be a cracker.

| No way Madge doesn't get them focussed on the Leeds game. As fans we can look ahead and speculate. As professionals they'll be devising tactics to take Leeds apart in training this week.

| So that's one out of three in the bag. What's everyone's thoughts on the big one next week? I think if we stay focused early on and not try and lob the ball about from the get go - go up the middle and let the forwards lay the platform we'll be in good shape as we really do have the edge out wide. Hopefully ST will be fit as he needs to outperform to outstanding Kyle Eastmond. The mouth waters at this fixture. 5k+ Wiganers, Chance to go 4 points [If they win this weekend clear of Saints, last ever KR derby. I'm already excited and it's only Saturday!

| I'm really concerned about injuries. I counted six walking wounded last night. The physio could be the most important man in the squad this week.

| Yeah the injuries are a slight concern we could possibly be without - Phelps, Coley, Sam T, Riddell, McLlorum, plus Joel is on report. Although i'm pretty confident in the cover we have, we could definatley do with most of them being fit and ready for Saints.
I'm pleased with the way the Leeds game went in a way, it was quite a distance from a top performance but we still won pretty comfortabley without being able to get ahead of ourselves before the big derby game, plus we stiffened our defence up which was'nt looking brilliant against Cas and in spells in previous games. So hopefully we will come out all guns blazing next week and get the two points.
On the Wakefield game i think we could rest one or two players and still get a result with say Feka in for Coley/Fielden. Maybe give Sam a rest to and play Lockers at stand off and give Liam Farrell a bench spot with Mossopp starting. But anyways thats next week and we've still got Saints first which will be a huge game.

| Fantastic results after reading through those posts, just shows how difficult we thought it would be.
I suggest we should create another thread:
Salford (A)
Sheff - CCup(A)
Quins (H)
Hudds (Murrayfield)
Win those and we really are motoring!

| I have always been of the belief that the Magic weekend is both a poorly thought out and unfair concept. Not to mention 'overkill' with four matches in a day.
The reason I mention this is that it will be no more clear than this year if Wigan and Warrington continue to win and the race between first and second becomes ever tighter.
At Murrayfield, we face Huddersfield Giants due to our higher league placing last year. Warrington due to them finishing far lower in the table face Salford.
No doubt some smart ar$e Wire fan will point out that Salford beat Huddersfield yesterday! But I think most would be in agreement over who has the far tougher game.
