All this is, is desperation by the RFU to add some credibility to the event and possibly even England RU. Tomkins would gain exposure and up his market value (assuming he continues to perform as he has been doing) and maybe yourselves will get a bit of publicity. However it's all geared towards the RFU and Tomkins so I'd say no. I have no interest in our sport joining with RU either from an ethical point of view or from one of developing relations/talent between the sports. We are different games and their's lacks the attractiveness of our's.

Let them flail around in mud like the pigs in [iAnimal Farm[/i for eternity every spring during their home nations competition because the NRL is coming to dominate it all in the southern hemisphere. We don't need them. Your own club has a far greater history than the RFU ever will have and we don't need such subservience.

I agree! I would like to see the RFL adopt a sort of Financial Fair Play strategy like UEFA are in Football.

I am currently writing my dissertation on this and it looks like something which could be possible, whilst it's main aim can be to grow the game in this country.

i keep reading how is this going to benefit wigan as ashton and robinson never raised are attendence, well there is a big difference and that is they where RUGBY UNION players they wasn't coming back to wigan after they ripped up a team. Majority of union fans dont recongise league because they are very sheltered from it how many people just take to a new sports with out some kind of infulence of a social club or friends? And the old fans of union talk about league as if its just mindless idiots who run into each other then kick after five tackles and i know this from experince as i lived in jersey and here in dubai with only rugby union teams. If sam does rip up the aussies alot of them fans are going to take interest in him and the only place they will get to seem him is back in rugby league. But to be honest it is a big if because he doesn't understand rugby union he wont know how to read the game and it is a very different game even if the players aren't as fit, strong or fast.

Its basically a club has to break even. Expenditure has to match revenue. We aren't going to be able to simply increase the salary cap because some clubs aren't even able to spend up to the full cap, so something else should be looked at.

If a club can increase its revenue through sponsorship and other means, then more can be spent on players. Bigger sponsors could mean more publicity for the sport. If that wasn't possible then smaller clubs would have to look at investing long term into their youth systems rather than relying on other clubs.

I think its a system that could be worked on and is far more beneficial than just raising the salary cap.

o'well i will give it a go, if sam has an amazing game the rugby union fans will see that there is a sport like theirs with better players and more entertaining to watch when they follow his performance for wigan.. people only have to see other boards outside rlfans to see that there is a rise in rugby league outside the heartlands and very much from other professional sports players.

Rugby league needs to capitalise on the interest created from the 4nations and there is no harm in this experiement.

I've said before that if Sam did go to Union then I would be more inclined to watch the games he featured in. He could be lethal and tear teams apart.

We shouldn't miss an opportunity for Sam Tomkins to get some recognition and media attention. He's a rugby league player for the next three years and if he has a good game then it should hopefully generate even more interest in him.

He will switch codes in three years time, I think that's almost a certainty. Right now we should just be doing whatever we can to get our best players the recognition they deserve and hopefully show a wider audience that the most talented rugby players are here in rugby league and not the 15 man game.
