| What a joke.
Tin pot club.
Bad performance from us, but I really hope Kendall's shocking performance isn't an indication of what's coming from the officials in 2024.

| Well, that's the end of that!
It was very obvious that we didn't have many senior players out there.
Wakey were worth their 22-12 lead.
Thought Sumner was good for us a full back, Walters looks very good indeed.
An imbalanced performance from an imbalanced team.
I wonder who Powell will want from us at his place on DR.

| Wasn’t great from a Wigan point of view.
Our much lauded pack got bullied at times by Trinity.
No need to panic but lots of work to be done.

Yeah, good luck with it because you are at least trying to improve the ground. I remember when Wigan "opened " their new floodlights in the 1960's against Bradford. They failed during the game.
Good luck for the season.

Lack of intensity throughout really but no concerns from my perspective - friendlies are just a case of getting re-adjusted.

| I think with the lights going out at least 14/15 times it was like the RL was priming us with what it will be like moving forward with the new rules -stop start stop start stop start etc etc.
to be honest we only had,Marshy,Harry,Faz,Field,Miski,Isa,Bevan,Havard,Cooper,Nsemba,Keighran missing.
Nothing to worry methinks.

| Was impressed with Mago. Lad made a fair few more tackles that he usually does and also took it up a few times. Didn’t look to be blowing out his backside afterwards. Be interesting to see us next week. Might be going into that first game against Cas a little undercooked maybe? To be fair plenty of time to fix things. Chan shooting out the line was a concern hopefully can knock it out of his game think king was murder for that at the start of last season sure it’s just him getting use to trusting in the team

I thought Chan looked a bit uncomfortable at second row, which isn’t hugely surprising with him usually playing prop and loose forward. I still thought there were positive signs from him and you can see what he’d bring around the middle but with some time and match practice (likely to be in the reserves or out on loan) he’ll hopefully be able to give us that extra second row option.

| You ever thought about growing up a bit Sgt Pepper?
I’d of thought you’d be delighted the floodlights failed as your nearly full strength team was being taken to the cleaners by a tin pot championship team.
Nicky kiss, at least we own our ground we don’t rent it whilst playing second fiddle to a third rate football team, just a thought.

But yet you're officially our feeder team and we took Eseh too.
Enjoy the championship, whilst we're 4 weeks off watching the most successful team in the history of the sport go for more glory.
Levels to this game pal and you've found yours.

All a bit of banter. I’ve said on here before I think it’s great to see Wakey moving in the right direction.
As for ourselves, the stadium and being second fiddle, I’m not sure you’re right on that score anymore and I think we’ll be ok.

We only had 11 first teamers out so yes a nearly full strength team out.
And as pointed we own the stadium and the third rate wendyball team aswell.

I think our idea's of a full strength Wigan differ pal. Now full strength forward pack? Yes that is fair but also bare in mind a fair chunk of it are new signings and others playing their first game back from injury lay offs.
Also, us being 2nd fiddle in the stadium is definitely a thing of the past now both clubs are owned by the same bloke.
Good luck for the season, i was actually very impressed with Wakey and that team is stronger than a few of the teams that will turn out in SL next year. With a few of our youngsters fed in as and when i don't see much danger for you down there.
And the floodlights thing was quite embarrassing if we are honest pal, not really the best first showcase of your new stand. And i can't confirm as i was on the west terrace, but i have seen mention from Wigan fans who were in the east stand that they ran out of Water during half time! It is ok to have teething problems on something new, as long as them issues get rectified before it's next use. I hope for Wakey's sake that it is, as currently it is a major accident on the pitch waiting to happen and shouldn't be allowed to be played in until they can prove it is functionally sound.

| Was it a full strength forward pack? Farrell and Harvard are first choice every day of the week. Cooper, Nsemba and Isa are all there or thereabouts too. It was a strong pack, for sure, but it wasn't full strength by any means. In addition 5 of the pack were playing their first munutes for Wigan and Chan trying out in a new position. Not exactly what you'd call a settled unit!
There was only 1 of our first choice 1-7 playing too.
Wakefield were good and deserving of their lead at the hour mark. But let's not get silly here pretending it was against anything close to a full strength team. Even with the injuries to Harvard and Nsemba there'll be around 7 changes come the first game of the season.

| Both sides were far from full strength
Wakefield probably had the advantage of being closer to the start of their season than Wigan
Wigan have the advantage of a much deeper squad in terms of quality so some replacements are still 1st choice standard
While Wakefield did look pretty comfortable and deservedly won the game (62 mins) it doesn’t mean much. Wigan will still be there or there about at the business end of SL and the CC while Trinity will be plying their trade in the Championship and hopefully winning the 1895 Cup.
In the coming few years & seasons though, if the words of Wakefields new owner become reality, we’ll be right up there fighting Wigan for honours.

Hope so. These guys like Ellis at Wakey, Beaumont at Leigh and Hudgell and co at HKR are driving clubs forward and it’s more the merrier. I believe he’s going all out for Tom Johnstone and Mike McMeekan next year, so clearly he’s not messing about and it’s been good to see the people of Wakey responding.
Friday didn’t mean a great deal for us but I thought it was a great way for Wakey to start this new era at home (the light issue aside).
