He played one game were as Myler played a full season..still cant see were Tomkins is more advanced in his career than myler.

I don't think people on here are saying Sam is the answer to us beating the Aussies, far from it. But you must admit he should play after the way BOTH our half backs played last night. Both were poor. Eastmond was far better.

I will be honest if he plays poorly compared to the rest of the team, if they all play shocking then you cannot expect much really, we shall see though, but if you want to compare NZ and Aus to France and judge performances like that, thats fine but I shall not jump to conclusions on Myler or on Tomkins.

Mylers tackling was not bad, this is not the only area of defence though is it, his positioning at times is shocking and disrupts the whole team, he does not get stuck in or have the passion in defence like Tomkins, he onlys tackles when he has to.

I am sure if Tomkins plays next week he will put in a decent performance but him and Myler and McGuire will probably all have shockers as the whole team is poor compared to aus.

I said yesterday I expected Tomkins to play last night, if it was me I would stick them both in along with Eastmond at FB take it to them with young fearless hungry lads, playing against players of that level will do them good for the future I wouldn't expect them to beat the Aussies but they would give them problems.

a full season on NL1?......pat on the back son, pat on the back. Tomkins was brought through winning back to back Reserve championships like Eastmond (losing finalist) and both seem to have come through better products from it.

Look at it like this. England and Great Britain have got three cracking young halfbacks all competing for places in the international side. Add to that McGuire and things seem a lot more positive. I wouldn't be surprised if we're adding Ratchford to that group in the not too distant future.

No as Tomkins best pack he has been behind was last week and wasnt as good as last nights pack and Myler was s**t and Tomkins wasnt. So he needs to be a team player?...he scored 3 for the team and set up 3 for the team last week. Myler score 2 and erm...well.

Tony, pretty much any set of fans for any team would have been really unhappy with the manner in which TS has conducted the Tomkins Myler debate this week.

For me i'd have Tomkins + Myler at 7 for the next game if it was against France or Wales etc, but it's a massive chance to put them both in against Australia or New Zealand. I thought Myler had an ok game last night, poor first half (but so were all our backs) woke up a bit in the 2nd half (much more than McGuire did), but he never looked confident and fired up which is why I think McGuire has to stay in and hope he steps up to the level he's capable of.

On that basis i'd probably go with McGuire and Myler again as the lesser of the evils.

If I were you, I wouldn't get too comfortable with the Wire PR job that Tony Smith currently appears to be conducting from his position as England Coach. He probably won't be in that job in about five weeks time. Then the real world will gradually come to remember that the club who provided half a dozen players for the England train-on squad actually finished near the bottom of the table.
