It should be. The town of Wigan has always been linked with that song. Before my time but i am sure it was always the last song played at the Casino?
Picture the scene, the opposition have been camped out on our try line for 3 sets of 6. they finally manage to bundle themselves over the line. Only for the video ref to rule the try out.

With regard to the walk out music im sure i remember it being reported that the players at the time actually liked this music and chose it themselves, i do wonder though how many of those players are in the current line up?
Despite differing musical tastes ive always thought rugby league - being one of the toughest sports on the planet would benefit from a good dose of heavy rock - not just at Wigan but accross the board.

I'd like to see it go old school...
Entry of the Gladiators as we come out of the tunnel and Simply the Best after a victory.
Drop all of the post-try songs. It's nothing but artificial atmosphere and the best sound when a try is scored is the joy of the crowd.
Fair enough for the video ref songs ("You Will, You Won't" by The Zutons being a good example) as it adds to the tension as you await to find if the try is awarded.

To be fair i think the atmosphere at home games has improved during the last couple of seasons and i think the flags sort of helped that last season especially.
Im just glad i don't have to sit near a drum!
I think what saddens me most about the demolition of the old grounds is the lack of atmosphere and its strange to think that young kids growing up watching the sport now may never get to expierience what it is like to stand in a packed out Central Park. |
