| Quote ="DP_wwrlfc"Fielden and Feka will be the two big earners.
If i remember rightly Feka is on his second contract with us and he signed it just after his best ever year performance wise with us so he will be on a decent wedge.
Bailey will be on a good wedge for sure all the Aussies do when they come over hes played in SOO.
So Feka, Bailey and Riddell plus the lesser wages of Phelps, Deacon and poss Pryce or Ainscough.
Added to that the big wage cut to Fielden.
All = Finch, Hoffman and Lima.
I imagine the only way we'll go for White is if Fielden isnt going to accept the big wage decrease.'"
Not sure Bailey will be excessively massive.
Didn't his contract expire last season, only for IL to extend by 1 year, much to all our amazement, due to him being a "great mentor for the young lads" or something of that ilk?

Bailey signed an extention on significantly less money last year so he wont be on SOO wages

Indeed. But Noble absolutely loved Feka, despite subbing by the clock - minute 20 to 35 then minute 50 to 70....every bloody week.
If only he had stayed on till half time then after we would have saved two substitutions and still done his two 20 minutes spells !!!
Wouldn't suprise me if he heads off to the Crusaders under Noble at all, he'll go back to the 'cushty life' he had under Brian.

| Bailey might be on less than he came over on but i'd have a decent bet that mes on more than Hansen, Mossop or Joel.
Riddell = Hoffman
Feka = Lima
Bailey = Finch

%Fieldens wage,
Phelps,
Deacon,
Pryce or Ainscough.
Hows that unrealisitic ?..

We lost scully, longy and KC on reduced deal which must have give us hude cap space but only brought in soliolia and tony p, saying that i don't think we are spending to the cap.
Something you need to look at also, is there any good players off contract next year? it's ok saying we will sign 4 top aussies on huge deals then lose top players next year as off contract players won't a raise.
Clubs need to look years in advance before they sign players, wages and length of the deal need to be taken into account as you could lose players down the line.

Lima 130 int test player
finch 100
roberts 130 marque signing in 09
Richards 130
tommy 130 Int test player
gleeson 100
oloughlin 150 captain
hock 100
tomkin s 80
tomkin j 80
that's 1.39 mil of the cap on 12 players and I have underestimated across the board. leaving you 260 grand for the rest of your squad? But I would suggest the wages for some of those lads would be a fair bit higher wouldn't you agree?

It just shows how important it is to sign the right players with the SC.
Fielden at the time imo was best prop in the world and justified his big deal, however it didn't work out, fielden lost his form.
Even if wigan wanted shut i doubt he'd gone for less money and doubt nobody would have gave him what wigan was paying.

You got a spreadsheet going?
Don't think White will come off so I'd scrub him off.
Then there maybe there is staggered clauses (year1 being a lower wage than year 2)?
Its rumoured Coley only wants a 12 month deal.
Also Carmont will be expected to leave in 12 months.
Also Pat Richards contract expires at the same time.
It's all jiggery pokery, as long as we're being fair this time thats all that matters.

That ain't what i mean.
You could sign say these 4 players on good money on 3yr deals, in two years say sam tomkins is off contract and wants a big pay rise as he's turned into the leading playerin super league( i know he signed long term) you may not have the cap space to offer him what he wants.
Im saying teams need to plan ahead, as you lot say you might have massive cap space next year but the club might save "x" amount for a player off contract next year.

This year was the water shed moment contract wise. The two big earners in Feka and Fielden (reportedly in the top 5 SL earners) are off contract as are others like Goulding, Pryce, Hansen, Bailey, Coley, Prescott etc.
I think next season Carmont, Joel and Richards are the main ooc players. I'd hazard only Joel possibly would stay and that anybody brought in now will be earmarked to play with Joel and not as a replacement.
Either way we need a HB/Hooker for next season so we WILL see one brought in. Other than that I trust IL judgment more than any other chairman in SL

One thing I will give IL credit for was to structure the contracts so that all players have their contracts finishing in November.
wigan.rlfans.com/fusion_pages/in ... age_id=122
Under Lindsay & Whelan it was shambolic (considering these are meant to be successful businessmen), every month a different player's contract would expire and they would have to make a choice about what to do - no wonder their calulator melted...!!!

Yeah i know i was kidding about the Melbourne bit. But I think Leneghan is turning about to be a master at working the salary cap.
I have no doubt he'z targeted the end of this season as a big recruitment summer, with short term players like Phelps, Deacon, Bailey's year extension to conincide with Fielden O/C, and Feka's.
He also seems to priorities our youngsters contracts, so I have no worries about that either.

If you look at some of the players saints have lost and brought in over last 4yrs it's unreal.
Maybe we had other ways of getting under the cap but if we didn't id love to know the reason being we ain't signed anyone to replace these players.
I don't think we are spending to the cap.

Roberts was not a marquee signing at all, Riddell was, so you can knock 50k off the estimate
Hock will only do half a year, and will be on much reduced terms at that

I was been fair mate if you think top bracket test players play for 130 sheets a year youre having a laugh! tommy is a world cup winning halfback/hooker he isn't gonna be on much less.
signing 3 Is realistic, but 4 noway. mossop just signed a long deal so he isn't gonna be on 20 odd grand. I can assure you hansen, mcalorum, prescot and the rest will Be on more than 20 grand, probably quite a bit more. If you resign anyone they arnt gonna be playing for 20 grand neither.
