But Hudson had only just started at a big club, Bradford, when he was banned, and had come from a small club. He had to go to a small club when he came back, Huddersfield (they were smaller then), and has ended up back at Cas.

At Wigan, Hock is top flight and top money. He won't command offers anywhere near what he will be on now in a couple of years time. (By top flight, I meant at a bigger club, not below Super League - my mistake).

one reason i would stop and think before sacking him is the fact. there will be no morals shown by the rest of the league when his bans up and there all knocking on his door.

he is an awesome talent with a ridiculously small brain. if the club can educate him properly (like they should have been doing for the last 6 years) then, as a player, im 100% confident he can be saved

I don't think age or time out of the game would do anything to Hocks playing abilities tbh.

He's always been a physical freak with unbelievable strengh for the size of him and that wouldn't change with an enforced lay off.

If you look at Hocks career though it's always been destined to be abit of a waste with long injury lay off and lay offs through suspension making it to stop start affair and this will continue that trend.

He'll be back because at the end of the day if clubs are willing to take on a player thats glassed his own girlfriend they'll take on a lad thats been taking banned substances.

Personally, I can't see Gareth Hock returning to top flight Rugby League again. I don't think he's got the correct mentality, attitude or those around him to help do it.

I can just see him getting banned for two years, getting a labouring job and playing for an NL2 club after the ban for extra income.

He will almost certainly have his contract cancelled if the b sample is confirmed with wigan retainign his registration

What a idiot a waste of a talent.

The only facts we have are from the official statements and there is no need to go over other people's opinions on the matter. However I think there is a bit too much doom and gloom going on about this issue.

If the second sample is positive and a two year ban results then yes we will lose one of our better performers. However rather than crying over spilt milk we could look at the positive opportunities for the club rather than the prospect of losing a semi final this year.

If the b sample is positive and he is banned and sacked by the club...

We have an opportunity for one of several promising second rowers from our reserves to play for the team and stay at Wigan when they may otherwise have left to gain first team rugby.

We have more freedom to operate under the cap and with it the potential to improve the squad in an area where it is more urgently needed. This can help with the advancement by a season of our push to be more consistent and competitive.

We would have removed a deleterious example of acceptable behaviour from the club and so diminished the exposure of younger players to this practice.

The club would have a perfect opportunity to distance itself from the use of drugs by using players and others at the club to spearhead an anti drugs campaign. Such an approach would show the club in a positive light and this incident although not one that you would want to occur could be used as a starting point for this type of campaign in order to gain some positive publicity for the club.

A strong stance by the club in such a matter should attract players and coaches who are against drug use etc as well as putting off those who may be more lenient on such matters. This would help in the changing to a more positive club culture.
