That's similar to what happened to Kevin Walters at Catalans this year.

| With the SC dictating what we can spend on players, its much more important to get the coaching side right, as this is an area where a massive impact to the team can be made.
IL will know this, and i will be amazed if the appointment of a new coach is down to a financial decision, (obviously if any coach is demading stupid money, then this will have an effect).
We should be aiming for the best coaching staff we can get, not a compromise or a old boys club that we have now.
I could care less where the coach, conditioner, water boy comes from as long as he/she/they are the best person for the job. If that is Wane, then good as being a Wigan lad, he will be given a bit more leeway by the complainers, who no matter what will find fault. However if it is not Wane, perhaps he should be made assitant so next time he will be ready to take over if that is what the club wants.

| If its Wane, who will be his assistant, will Forshaw still be in charge?
If we are merely putting Wane into position, I dont see how we can expect a revolution.
Perhaps John Monie could be his assistant
I will back Wane if he gets it, but I would be disapointed.
With no signings, the pressure is no him from the start.

IL has (rightly or wrongly) got a reputation as being a bit tight with purse strings so I would not be surprised but I'd be disappointed.

I agree, all the clubs above us in the league have good coaches and the CC cup winners have one as well.

That would be ideal.

I think it will go one of two ways regardless of who the new coach is.
One scenario is if we have another start like we have had the last three years the pressure will be on. Nobby will have lost his job mainly for that reason IMO so the new coach will be being employed to rectify this problem. Fail to do so and the pressure will be on no matter who it is.
The other scenario is they get some leeway and manage to keep the fans on-side by dong things differently despite early results. In other words its not just about results but if the new coach does things like drop out of form players he will get the backing of the fans.
I think the latter is the more likely so I think whoever it is has a seasons grace before people want to see genuine improvement.
If the new coach carries on where Nobby leaves off he will have about five games as his grace period because people want change.
2007 was a poor season for us after the way we finished 2006 but I think very few if any were calling for Nobby's head back then. It was IMO consdered a blip and most fans thought 2008 would se some improvement.
So for me whoever gets the job they will get a season to put in place their changes and the second season is where the fans will start to expect tangible improvement.

| Wigan coach Brian Noble has revealed that young forward Mark Flanagan will make his farewell appearance at the DW Stadium on Sunday but declined to confirm it will be his last home game too.

| Flanagan may return but that will depend on his domestic decisions as well as Rugby.
No doubt he'll play in the reserves at Wests to see how he goes. He will do well if he makes the first team within his first season with them.

Might be what's needed. '"
selective memories here, Wigan didn't really come flying out the blocks the season Mike Gregory was in charge.....lost at Bradford first game when Vainikolo got 5 tries, then got beat at Leeds and Huddersfield, I think it was one win from the first five.
Wigan were a lot better in those days and Gregory did have Wigan in 2 finals during his brief spell in charge but the slow starts were a factor of those days as well....

I was at Bradford that night, and some sections of the fans were already talking about sacking him, as he had taken us backwards!!!
To be fair it was a shocking display! Didnt think noble sides could start the season well either!

| I will support the mew coach throughout the season but what I will find interesting will be to see how the Noble haters on here will react to our inevitable poor performances next year and lack of consistency. Will it all of a sudden become the players' fault?

But it’s not the players fault imo.
I’d class myself as a ‘Noble hater’ as I think he’s the main problem at Wigan. I still hold the fundamental belief that the players at Wigan ARE good enough to challenge for the title.
We’ve got players here who have played massive roles in previous grand final winning teams at other clubs such as Richards, Gleeson and Fielden and we’ve also got a fantastic amount of talent like Carmont, Phelps, Feka, Lockers, Coley, Tomkins x2, Prescott, Riddell etc have they all turned into bad players over night? All these players can’t suddenly go stale over night.
When you look at teams like Hudds, Wakey and Hull KR all teams that finished above us you can argue our team is just as good as theirs really. We can challenge and it’s not a pipe dream to expect us to either.
When the new coach comes in I will fully back him but I’ll also admit that I’ll be straight on his back if after he’s had a while in the job things haven’t improved.
I realise that his new methods won’t change things over night and I’m willing to be very patient especially in the early part of the season as it will take time but if say in a season and a half we are still stuck here in the same situation of unfit players and poor consistency I’ll be calling for his head because as I said before this team is good enough to challenge.
If we aren’t challenging then it’s the coaches fault imo as the players are good enough.

it could be a mike gregory type appointment- wigan through and through and the players have the respect for him, not much first team coaching experience but could turn out a gem
or it could be...

| Is Noble's not getting a contract due to poor performances and expectations, or is it due to him being 'on a wedge' and Lenegan hates spending ?
I hope it's the former, but fear it's the latter.

What has that got to do with anything?
We presently have 14 come through the ranks playing members of the 1st team squad.
I think that speaks volumes.
Now wane has served his time in the junior ranks and deserves a full time 1st team opportunity. Hopefully he will add some aggression to our pack

Don't know what it's got to do with anything was just responding to your question as to what it says in Monie's book. Maybe he's got a point. Maybe putting so many average youngsters in to the first team is why we are average.
