Just because you won it last year doesn't mean you haven't been guilty of being over-confident in the past. The cup defeat v Cas springs to mind straight away for example. Also prior to the the 2014 Grand Final I was reading about how easy it was going to be for you. My point is Wigan fans do have form for making bold predictions and falling flat on their face.

For anyone to suggest their squad is "far superior" than everyone else and "there's nobody to touch us" is extremely arrogant in my opinion and I'm sure if any fan of Saints, Warrington or Hull said the same you'd agree.

I notice a Wigan fan, "Trainman" agrees with me but nobody seems to be pulling him up for saying it's arrogant as well!

We have Escare, Burgess and Tomkins in the backs, losing Charnley and Sarginson. Plus Tierney and Gildart another year older and Gelling fully fit. TL in for Matty Smith is an obvious massive improvement plus we have MM, SOL and Joel Tomkins all fit again in the pack, losing Mossop and Crosby admittedly but gaining Navarette. If we stay fit why not be confident?

Some people have made bold statements, of course they have but I think the message that sits of the back of them is that we're pretty confident in the squad we have.

I won't sit here and say 'we will do this or that' but what I have said is that I believe we have the best squad in the league and if we don't win a major trophy this year then it will have been a season of real failure. If we keep a pretty fit squad (which hasn't started well) then I do think we have the best team on paper but that doesn't always equate to winning things.

If you want a neutrals view of clubs chances in all comps this year go and look at the bookies. We're favourites for the lot so they clearly think we're just about the best team about.

Huge huge differernt in confidence and complete and utter arrogance. I am confident Saints will be there or thereabouts when it comes to handing out trophies but I would never say we are streets ahead of everyone else and that nobody will touch us. Firstly it's simply not true, for Saints or any other team, and also even if I thought it I wouldn't say it because it's arrogant and dismissive of other teams. It's the type of statement that is likely to come back and bite you.

I haven't disagreed that you have one of the strongest squads and are the favourites. However, as you know but are probably too stubborn to agree with a Saints fan

, there is huge difference in being confident and then completely dismissing the rest and claiming your miles ahead of the chasing pack, which simply isn't true.

We have a very good & Deep Squad
What I mean by this is that if we get a fair share of luck injury wise and all teams end up with the same/equivalent then we will cope with it as good and better than most.

However - If every team stays fit and it's based on each teams Best 17/19 players then there'll be 4/5/6 teams who'll fancy there chances. (Wolfs, Hull, Saints - And Poss even Leeds/Cas).

However history and logic tells you that at some point your going to get hit by injuries and further you go down the pecking harder the more difficult it is to cope with these issues and it takes a lot out of the tank and creates further injury issues through playing through the pain barrier etc. and not being fit come season end.
As far as I see it when balancing the 2 issues together I think I'd go for :-

Wigan/Warrington
Saints/Hull
Cas/Leeds

With Any 4 of those making the Top 4 dependant on Various injuries etc.

You are incorrect in your assumption anyway that I meant all Wigan fans. I haven't accused ALL WIGAN FANS of anything.

I was there. Was I arrogant and claim we only had to turn up to win? No. But judging by the half empty Wigan end that day I assume Wigan fans thought that.

Right let's pretend I predicted that Saints would win everything and meant it. I still didn't claim that nobody would touch us or that we are far superior. Surely you can see the difference between being confident and thinking you have a good chance of winning silverware and claiming you are far superior to the rest? It really isn't that difficult.

If you actually lived in the world of Wigan fans, you'd know that most of us exist in a state of constant nervousness and uncertainty. But you don't, you live in the world of "Wigan fans according to St Helens fans", where we are mostly villainous, and you lot - you in particular, I expect - are mostly righteous.

The fact you take exception to one or two Wigan fans demonstrating a bit of bravado (on their own forum!) to such an extent that you then come out with comments like "arrogance even by Wigan fan standards" says exactly the opposite - about you at least - as does your unwillingness later to admit that this was some kind of general-purpose insult.

Not at all. My intention wasn't to detail anything. I see that it would fit the agenda of certain people on here if I was made out to be a troll derailing a thread but that isn't the case. I have noth done or said anything pathetic. The only pathetic thing on here is the xenophobic nature of some of you.

My intention was in keeping with the predictions title and was simply to point out that it's quite arrogant to suggest you are far superior to all of your rivals. You will also notice a Wigan fan agreed with me but surprisingly nobody minds that. It's fine when a Wigan fan says a Wigan fan is arrogant, but when a Saints fan says it he's being pathetic and derailing a thread, apparently.

My post wasn't aimed at all Wigan fans; if you've taken it that way then you've taken it wrong. I have family members and close friends who are Wigan fans and none of them are particularly arrogant so I wouldn't make that generalisation. Similarly I know many Saints fans who are complete buffoons.

I do think that Yellow Giraffe has a point about arrogance. I sometimes think that Wigan fans (and I include myself) can veer between arrogance and self laceration. - (I find these days that Saints fans on the whole are rather better than Warrington and Cas to name two sets of fans who can get on my particular wick).

Anyhow (as if to prove the point) I still think that Wigan have the best squad in the comp, but disagree that it will be a disaster if we don't win anything, in sport you just never know.
