| Quote ="Wire_91"sams a good player dont get me wrong but i think its about time he goes back to stand off 'his best position' and play that young lad who went to hull at fullback, sam is suspect under the high ball everybody knows that, he hasnt performed half as well as last year IMO plays well against the salfords and hulll kr's but goes hiding in the 'bigger' games ie, saints, warrington and leeds
theres only one winner for man of steel and he should have won it 3 years running AND THE STATS DONT LIE ''James Roby'' and coming from a warrington fan who has a neutral point of view in things like this he is a world class player he doesnt stop running or tackling, he never misses a game, westwood and sam have had good seasons but come on james roby is the clear winner'"
You made an absolute tool of yourself at the start, but you got there in the end. James Roby wins it for me.

| Roby has been once again very impressive in a Saints team which has lost many of it's stars in recent years. For me it's between him and Sam.
On a side note, and people might disagree I think Lockers should be up there. He's excellent at everything he does on the pitch. For me,e is defines 'Man of Steel'.

| Goes hiding against Saints.......Langtree park or the Etihad Stadium ring any bells
Goes Missing against Leeds.......Did this guy miss the DW fixture or the masterclass Sam put on at Headingley?
Nowhere to be seen against Wire?.......well in fairness his record ain't that great and fair play to them but he did tear them apart in the only knockout fixture he's played against them in the past couple of seasons so maybe not.
Grand final 2010, CC semi 2011, Australia game at Wembley, NZ game at the KC etc etc....no need to go on really.

| I thought Finch first half of the season, but maybe not overall now.
I agree with the Last Son of Wigan, O'Loughlin should be in the mix.
Hill or Carvell would be my Wire nominations but don't think they will get it.
No complaints if its Roby, a truly class pro.

| Don't really care who wins.
The MoS has lost its credibility. The organisers need to pray that we get some more plausible winners of this trophy in the comping years so that it can start to be taken seriously again.

| Knowing the RFL, the 3 nominees will be Sam, Dureau and Ryan Hall, with Dureau winning it. IMO though it should be between Sam, Roby and Westwood. Coach of the year - Trent Robinson.

| Not exactly clear on what players have to do to get a nomination, but does nobody else think that Carmont would be in with a good chance?
If its voted by players I wouldnt be shocked to see him get votes, very modest and classy player and seems a genuine bloke.
I see Tomkins and Westwood etc as all worthy winners but I wouldnt mind seeing Carmont there, think he has had a great year mixing his good all round consistancy with some really good flashes (see the other thread for examples).
Saying that i may be completely off the mark.

Every player has a vote. 3 points, 2 points and 1 point.
When all votes have been counted the top 3 become the shortlist for the awards night, every rugby player that has put theirs on Twitter (around 10-15) have all picked Tomkins as top and i have spoken to a few Saints players who all went Tomkins/Westwood/Manu

Hows that for rewarding mediocrity.

| Roby??
Oh come on. Have they renamed this the "One Trick Pony of the year award"?
Roby is a good player, but if running from dummy half was outlawed, this guy would have to retire.

Unfortunately that sentiment ticks a rather large box at RFL HQ.

| We have played Stains 4 times this year and MM bullied him the first 3 times and in the last game we all know what happened, for me Roby still didn't shine. Having said that he played well against Wire in the playoff, but he was not the matchwinner that the sky commentary team make out, it was actually Soliola.
Tomkins MOS by a country mile.

Totally agree.
I can only really judge Roby on the 4 matches I've seen him up close and personal but I wouldn't have really known he was on the pitch in the first 3 and in the 4th he certainly didn't terrorise us.
