The biggest difference is that today's technology allows virtual lynch mobs to form. Also, Sam seems to be a more sensitive person than Murphy from my admittedly limited exposure to both. IMO the stick is beginning to get to Sam, so much so that I wouldn't be surprised if he fails to see out his existing contract.

I've just been watching a clip from tonights programme while watching the championship game on SKY. It will certainley get fans going again as the clip showed Sam trapping / clamping the arm of Carney who was shouting for him to get off etc.

Sounds like Carney did more there than he did in his entire last season with us.

It usually goes on the Sky Sports website the day after it airs. I've watched a few on there after missing them on Sky so tonight's should be no different

I think Sam came across well tonight and didn't seem arrogant I think he will learn from his mistakes he's a young and very talented player and no matter what any other fans say they wud have him in they're team in a shot.

Came across as a real, level headed decent bloke. Alot more educated than I thought he would be. Hopefully we can keep him in our sport and in this country.

I think there's something in this. As I've said elsewhere, there's plenty he could do to avoid irritating the great unwashed, nad he opts not to do it. I think he enjoys winding people up.

In my book, if people are so easily wound up, they deserve what they get, and to be fair to Tomkins, it isn't him who leads getting all ypants-ish about the reaction he gets.

I'm still looking forward to seeing him play in the Autumn tests, and I sincerely hope he can wind the Aussies up as effectively.

Pity the bit about the wembley V Flick was shoe horned into the program, but overall Sam is just a kid living out his dream and is obviously very hungry for success.

Given that it has been in the news, it would have been fairly shoddy journalism even by Sky standards not to mention the "v" incident.

Sam says his first game at FB was at Quins away. That was the first time he started at FB.

The first time we saw him at FB was Widnes away in the cup I think.

It was Quins away. Richards played FB against Widnes, Tomkins only played a few minutes at FB.

I think it was Nobby who was going to try him at 1 but Tim Smith's injury meant he was used at 6.

In his MOTM interview after that Quins match he said "there was talk of me playing Full Back but when Tim Smith got injured I had to go in at Stand Off" or words to that effect. Not sure why on earth I remember that so well

I have only just watched this and Sam seemed very level headed to me. I do not live in the RL heartlands but this has not stopped me being a Wigan season ticket holder and a Rugby League supporter in general watching every televised game. We need to hang on to this lad, stop all of the rubbishing now or he will be off.

By far the vast majority of his detractors have never met him or seen him interviewed in this way. He came across exactly how he really is - quiet, modest, unassuming. Hopefully his profile will have been improved as a result. Who knows, he may even get cheered for England!

Same, I tried to record it at 1.30pm today, but live Golf appeared instead. Don't know how they make that mistake in the first place. I'm guessing it will be on the Sky Sports website in the next couple of days
