How is the pitch so crap? Its not like that at Bolton or Blackburn and most other premier league pitches in the north west. Seems strange to me.

The clue is in the name of the area where the stadium is built.

The football club are using the pitch to try and help them stay up as its bringing sides down to thier level, so will not try and patch it up so we have to suffer on that bog of a pitch.

Both teams seemed to do fine today despite the weather.

So if it rained constantly for 3 days before and during a Wigan RL match and the pitch deteriorated because of it, you'd welcome a fine for us as well?

You're joking, right? After 25 minutes on that pitch Rovers couldn't pass the ball - it was falling 4-5 yards short each time.

Yes I would welcome a fine for us if we asked the opposition to play on a pitch like that. It was an absolute disgrace.

Obviously you know some rather strange Rovers fans. Nobody I've spoken to thought the better side won.

He paid £50K last February to have the pitch relaid.

You don't need to admit it, it was plain to see to all neutrals.

Sometimes there is credit where credit it is due, Rover looked like they were flattered with a 1 goal different scoreline, seeing the stats, the reports and the feedback from both sets of fans it could and should have been a much more convincing scoreline for the Wigan team.

Just to be clear I am not pointing the finger at anyone here. I was just a little shocked to see the state of the pitch, that's all.

As others have said, the location of the stadium doesn't lend itself to great drainage.

There WAS a reason that the area was wasteland before and that was that no-one wanted to build there!

How much rain has there been in Wigan compared to say Bolton, Blackburn, Manchester? Now look at their pitches compared to the one at the DW stadium. Either they are letting it go crap on purpose or they dont know how to look after it.

Back on the important topic of the state of the pitch...Our first game being one of the biggest games of the season against the dragons. It doesn't look well for an open free flowing game.

Or all the other grounds aren't built on marsh land and didn't have a game on yesterday?

I'm sure if me and 22 of my mates had run around and dove/slid about on my lawn yesterday for 90 minutes in the pi$$ing down rain that my lawn would look something similar to the DW pitch. It had a sheet of water on top of it FFS.

The fact that the walkway at the back of the SS where the drainage is was flooded as well shows the problems we have.

Bolton's, Blackburn's and both Manchester team's pitches aren't built in MARSH green.

We'll the fact it's played in Feb when it will more than likely be pi$$ing it down would see to that anyway.

Just out of curiosity when the JJB Stadium was due for construction what other site's were considered for it's location?

The only ones I know of were the tips which was laughed at and the site at the side of the Bryn junction which can't be built on apparently.

Was Elland Road a mess for the past few WCC games? I honestly cant remember.

The frst time we play on it later this month we will get them n*b head wendyballers on Sky saying do you know they play Rugby on this pitch

The same amount of rain fell over the Northwest, but Blackbrook amateur rugby pitches looked 100% better than that after having a couple of games of rugby (which clearly is far more likely to damage the playing surface than softball) played on them this morning and that's without any specialist care and without the fact that they were returfed last year. It's the siting of the DW that is the problem, not the weather.
