| Quote ="Bridger"Half-hearted attempt? A proper expansion?
Proper expansion is exactly what is going on at the moment. A comprehensive schools programme, a massive increase in junior rugby league at community clubs, increased participation in FE and HE, increased participation at Open Age, scholarship programmes, U18's and U20's, a Championship 1 club and a SL club.
You're making my point. As Fulham, they just imported players from up North and hoped to get a crowd on. Some school and amateur interest? It is growing far faster than any other region.
The crowd isn't the key. After years of trying to get the crowds up at Quins/Broncos/Fulham with nothing underneath, the 'fur coat and no knickers' policy has been replaced by a proper sports development model. It will take many years before there is much noticeable difference to the crowds.
That is exactly what both you and King Warrior said. With the changes implemented over the last few years, things will be entirely different 20 years from now, as long as the flat earthers don't get their way.
Rugby league faces 2 choices: expand or die!'" Bridger what was quins, catalan and crusaders brought into super league for?
Thats right to expand rugby league make the sport bigger try and break london well quess what it hasn't happened and it WONT in london that city is football through and through
The atmosphere at that ground on match day is bad enough to send anyone asleep (talking about the home fans) most of them look like they have been forced to church on a sunday what does that say?
Kick them out and be done they have wasted enough money and before you start with the old 'ah kw allways making stupid comments' i dont care i have the balls to say stuff on here what other dont because they dont want to be out the clique

That won't be happening either - the only reason we got the Olympics is because Lord Coe built the bid around an "athletics legacy" and the Olympic Stadium was a key part of that.
West Ham or Quins would only be tennants and would play second fiddle to athletics throughout the year.

All the home fans from Quins, Catalans and Crusaders ARE expansion. If those clubs weren't there, those people wouldn't be attending rugby league matches.
You need to understand that long term sustainable expansion of the game of rugby league has very little to do with SL crowds directly. Also, nobody is suggesting that RL is going to 'break London'. It doesn't need to. There are enough people there for every sport.
Quote ="king warrior"The atmosphere at that ground on match day is bad enough to send anyone asleep (talking about the home fans) most of them look like they have been forced to church on a sunday what does that say?'"
No different to the DW Stadium at most matches. Terrible atmosphere. Same at Odsal.
Quote ="king warrior"Kick them out and be done they have wasted enough money and before you start with the old 'ah kw allways making stupid comments' i dont care i have the balls to say stuff on here what other dont because they dont want to be out the clique '"
I am not aware of a clique and I'm pretty sure therefore that I'm not in it. It's not about having the balls to say something that is different to what other people are saying, it's about thinking before you type and understanding the subject matter.
Whether you like it or not, without the development being done in London and the South East, Wales and the North East, rugby league would be in deep trouble.
As a precentage, the numbers of people participating in sport and watching live sport are falling across the whole country. This isn't just effecting RL but all sports. Sport England, County Sports Partnerships and other agencies are only interested in investing in and working with NGB's that are determined to increase participation through diversity and expansion. Rugby League is recognised by those people as one of the leading NGB's in development. If we shut up shop in the North of England, we will wither and die.
Check out the links below if you get chance and then make a decision on whether you think RL is only worth pursuing in the M62 corridor and Cumbria:

| Surely the problem with Quins is they simply don't appear to viable commercially? Despite all the good work that apparently goes on off the pitch they have seemingly nearly gone bust (again).
The key question for me has got to be why isn't all that work off the pitch and all these youngsters now playing the game as a result of Quins community programs translating into much bigger crowds for Quins?
It's no good spreading the Gospel if no one comes to church!

The rfl are giving them money why not put it elsewhere like big screens at all games or bring through new refs?
Rugby league would be in trouble if it wasn't for london and wales are you for real? 90% of players are from the north fact, i have no doubt rugby league could take off in france and wales but the way the rfl did it let a bad taste in everyones mouth

I think Brian Carney made a good point on Boots yesterday, in that maybe they're spreading the net too wide. My son's college in South London has just started up a RL team for the first time ever (and he's loving the training already) with involvement from the Quins coaching staff. The thing is, although it's still London, it would him as long to get to a Quins game as it does for me, from Wigan. IMO, they need to be concentrating on a much more local area.

Good point.
With that in mind, being located in Twickenham can hardly help their cause of trying to get at the locals.

Yeah, but it's spreading awareness of the game in an area where it's not well known. Suppose friends and family go to watch a student playing League, and some then realise what a good game it is to watch. Maybe promote discounted Quins tickets for them, too?

Basically they not skint, have no debt and the bloke who has been bankrolling em (who owns 35% I think) says the RFL have not been bailing em out financially but have been helping him get 100% ownership of shares.

Hardly a major announcement, more a confirmation that the rumours of their demise are untrue. Says that the RFL have found a way of Hughes taking 100% of the ownership though, so not sure what part Lenegan has to play in that.

let them drop to the 1st division then , they can carry on with the youth development and pay less wages to players .
the truth is we want to grow the sport to gain more supporters, end off
thats the end goal

So the DW has a great atmosphere? Disjointed singing and drum banging (which a lot of people don't like)? A quiet West Stand, an occasionally empty North Stand and open corners don't help create atmosphere.
And you call the Londoners for chanting 'Landan', when we chant 'Wigan', which also very similar to 'Castleford', 'Catalans' etc.
We definitely need a few more songs though.
