| Quote ="ABP'"But we're basing the move on the presumption that he's been offered bigger money elsewhere. For me, he's a work horse type player. Very good defensively and solid in attack, but isn't on the same platform as Joel Tomkins and Ryan Hoffman. Based on performances in the academy and reserves and early indications within the first team Liam Farrell, Lee Mossop and even Chris Tuson have shown they can develop into a just as good, if not better player than Harrison Hansen. '"
Hansen is only 24 so IMO has not finished his own development yet so it won't be as if he is standing still waiting conveniently for those younger players to catch up. There is nothing to say he won't continue to improve which means it's not a given that the younger players will end up as good as he will (or already is). Hoffman is only gong to be here two years max (he's too good to finish his career here IMO) so Hansen would only be 26 when Hoffman left and in his prime.
With Hansen the club has produced a very good player who has IMO been overlooked by the fans for a long time and I think they forget how young he is. I think it would be madness to produce such a player and let him leave based on the unproven potential of other players. If he was Bailey's age it would be a different matter.
Quote Therefore, in my opinion he isn't worth the extra money and salary cap space he'd be demanding to stay within the club.'"
It depends on how else the club would spend the money. As I said he is only 24 and so just like JT the club should be expecting to increase his wages as he has improved and should plan for that. I don't think the club will be successful if it can't accommodate such players and if it must let players coming into their prime leave for young players with unproven potential I think there is something wrong elsewhere in the wage structure
Quote Anyway, as the above posts point out. It appears to be a load of BS anyway.
But it would be a good talking point if it was true.'"
I tend to think most contracts are not worth the paper they are written on. I thought Ainscough had another year but he appears to be off.

Contracts don't mean much these days.
It's prob all rubbish about him leaving but him being under contract don't mean he's a cert to stay.
Maybe wigan have told him he can talk to clubs as he don't feature in wigans plans.
If it's in the star then it's nailed on he'll be at wigan next year.

| Wait and see for me - hopefully not true but if we're letting someone who's been consistently good in the first team over a number of years in favour of someone who's not played pro-RL for 2 years then we're taking a heck of a gamble.
Ideally prefer to keep both Hansen and Hock if possible though.

| Talking of Hansen, how is his shoulder? Not heard anything since the after the game when people said he was clutching it. A player in great form who we really need going into the playoffs.

According to the Observer, he's out for the season.

Bugger! It's that time of the season where you dread any injuries. Phil Bailey couldn't be coming back at a better time. Tomkins, Bailey, Farrell and Tuson wont let us down.

Bailey isn't up to it

| Very dissapointed if this new is true. We really could do with him for the run in especially with injury clouds already hanging over guys like Prescott, O'Carroll and Bailey aswell as Mossop being out. He would be so important because we could shift him between Second row and Prop as and when we needed and if he is out he really does leave quite a big hole.
On the plus side it gives the 2 young lads in Farrell and Tuson a real opportunity of keeping their places through the play offs and maybe even an opportunity to play in a grand final and i'd back the pair of them to thrive under that pressure. They have both been excellent since they've come in and look ready made first team players. They won't let us down in the slightest and i'm sure Maguire and Wane will make them believe in their abilities.

| Can't see that being true! From an outsiders pov Hansen is a quality player, home-grown and one of your most consistent performers. You'd be mad not to tie him down to 3 years.

They’ve not made signings like this since Andrew Dunemann.

i like this.....we have a good back 3 without him being considered, plus young guys coming through.
imo hes peaked last season and is on a downslope (like a racehorse on the downgrade).........hes still a decent player, but it would make sense to release him and not pay him an increased wage to stay...

Concurred. Another off-season with Madge and Bitcon could turn Hansen into a real beast. Same goes for Mossop too I reckon

Through the past few years or so Salford have only been operating at 40% of the salary cap limit - while they were waiting for the stadium to go through etc. Now the stadium build is due to start imminently, they have decided to invest heavily in their playing staff.
Mark my words - Salford will be the new Warrington in 5 years time.

Just seen that, real shame for him. Hope it clears up properly.
Would he have been in the running for a NZ squad spot in the 4N do you reckon?

Not really I don't think. They're hardly lacking back rowers over there as it is with the likes of Blair, Pritchard and Bronson Harrison. It'd be interesting to see how he'd fair at that level but I don't see it happening. I think the only SL based player who will turn out for them is Eastwood

No. He's opted for Samoa.
