| Quote ="wiganlass25"Ben Davies is on loan at Widnes, so to bring him back we would have to cancel his loan deal. Would Maguire want to do that for one game? It's not like a dual-registration where he could go straight back into the Widnes side the week after when, realistically even if he had a stormer v Sheffield, he would not be required for Wigan?
Leave him where he is, he's getting valuable first-team experience on a regular basis, something we can't provide him at the moment! We have got enough props to go with for next week!'"
Is he not on duel registration if so he can play for both clubs its only if he go's out on loan to another club like Ainscough his contract would be canceled.
Plus i think even where a loan deal for a full season is done you can bring players back for none SL games.

| Last year in the cup they only lost 24-34 at Hull KR, with Rovers getting a try in the last minute. So I would suggest they aren't treated too lightly.

They are struggling a bit this season though. Speaking to a lad from Sheffield i know he reckons our 1st team would stick 100 on em

Our reserve team almost beat Leigh. Put them to shame really.
Our reserve team plus a couple of four youngest first teamers would be a match for anyone in the championship. Infact they would probably win it.

| I can't see them giving us any real trouble, this is a good chance to give out a few debuts and rest some of the older guys:
FB 5 Richards
RW 24 Goulding
RC 3 Gleeson
LC 20 Pryce
LW 22 Ainscough
SO 1 Phelps
SH 6 Sam
P 8 Fielden
H 15 McIllorum
P 21 O'Carroll
SR 23 Mossop
SR 25 Farrell
LF 12 Joel
S 17 Paleaaesina
S 26 Davies
S 29 Tuson
S 35 Howarth
I'd have rested Deacon too but we're a bit short of hookers with Leuluai and Riddell both out injured

| My team for Sheffield.
Phelps - Needs some game time as he's a little rusty at the moment.
Marsh - A chance for the lad to impress and maybe push for wing spot in the near future.
Goulding - A good opportunity to see how he fares at centre.
Thornley - Again a good chance to see how the lad performs against more mature opposition
Pryce - Could be the lifeline he needs to resurect his carrer and show McGuire just what he can do.
S Tomkins - Shame Mellors out injured as he's have no doubt played.
Deacon - His experience should help those younger guys around him.
Fielden - He was rested against Salford, so it's only right he plays so Coley can have a rest this week.
McIlorum - Extra game time plus it may just build up his confidence if he can have a good game.
O'Carrol - He's been plying well so an obvious starter.
Mossop - Again he's been playing well so deserves a start.
Walker - A chance for the lad to show what he can do.
Farrel - Give's lockers a rest, plus we'll get to see what the young lad can do in a more pivotal role
Prescott - Obvious choice to play.
L Tomkins - Provides cover for McIlorum, plus he gets a taste of first team rugby.
Feka - Another game in which to build his confidence and raise his fitness levels.
Charnley - Struggling to think of others so I'll just name him on the bench.
I think what's important is that once we do get in a commending position in the game those most vital to us such as Sam and Fielden are taken off just to prevent anything that could happen to either of them.
I've not gone down the route of naming those out on loan as I'm not aware of whether they can play for us or not.

We should be very very careful to make sure that we don't let anyone get cup tied who we might end up wanting to play in later rounds.

| I'd go with ...
Phelps ( After a scratchy performance vs Salford i think he could do with the game time at fb )
Charnley ( Been impressing for the reserves so perfect time to give him a chance )
Bailey ( Can help Charnely on debut also opens a spot for one of our young second rowers )
Gleeson ( Doesnt seem to be carrying any knocks will help Marsh settle in )
Marsh ( Same as Charnley both could be massive players in future for us aslong as we introduce them correctly )
Sam T ( Would of liked him to have a rest but dont think theres any alternative at the mo )
Deacon ( Same as Sam )
Fielden ( Was rested last week so should be able to lead pack during most of game )
Riddell ( Wasnt aware of any injury )
Prescott
Mossop
L Farrell ( Can see Farrell playing majority of game and impressing )
J Tomkins ( Been on fire will be able to cover Lockers well and gives him more freedom )
Subs...
Feka
O'Carroll
Walker
McLlorum
Wouldnt mind Ben Davies getting a game aswell if were able to use him without putting an end to his spell at Widnes.

| Quote ="thepriestman85"The problem with resting both Fielden and Coley is that there is a massive gulf in class after these two.
It's catch 21 as if we drop them we seriously miss them but if play them and they get injured then we really are up the creek without a paddle.
I think that might be why Madge rested Fielden today. He’s gonna play him next week so he can rest Coley.
Can we bring Ben Davies back?'"
Is that not as bad as catch 22?

| Id look at going something like
1. Richards- hes the type of player who can play week in, week out without a rest
2. Charnley- great prospect, was extremely impressed with him against leigh
3. Goulding- give him a game in his natural position
4. Pryce- needs to take his chance in my opinion
5. Marsh- Been great in reserves, deserves a game.
6. Phelps- needs the match fitness, would like to see how he plays at 6
7. Deacon- obvious choice
8. Fielden- rested yesterday, should play
9. McIllorum- again obvious choice
10. Ocarroll- Been fantastic recently has eamon let him start
11. Bailey- skipper for me this week
12. Walker- very good player, been fantastic in the reserves
13. Farrell- faz deserves a game after wakey, natural position for him aswell.
14. Palea'asenia- if hes fit he should play
15. Ben Davies- should be given a chance of the bench in my opinion.
16. Stu Howarth- was around the team in pre season, can see him playing on sat
17. Josh veivers- give josh a game on the bench

Good call on Howarth, your right he did get a lot of game time preseason so will probably play this week. Anybody know what his natural position is? When he played preseason he played at 6 if my memory serves me right.

| the lads on loan, Tuson, Davis and Ainscouugh cannot play unless they are recalled. You cannot be recalled in your first month of being on loan so Tuson cannot come back. Davis and Ainscough cant play for their loan clubs. Heard that Stuart Howarth might be going on loan to cas, good move i say

Thats pretty much what i was thinking apart from Deacon starting instead of Sam with Howarth on the bench. Also Bailey playing instead of Joel. Think both the Tomkins definately deserves a rest.

| It looks as though we'll be playing the strongest team possible against Sheffield, if Madge's comments on the Wigan Today site are anything to go by.
