Surely this place is for discussion? Let's have some!
My opinion is that with 4k given away (ok, not literally but u get my jist) I'm hoping we have more than 14k on the night. Get me? Not negative. Just hopeful that as our entertainment has gone up this year, I think our attendances could reflect it!'"
some people are way too touchy on this forum. i completely agree with the point you are making and have no idea why everyone is getting so butthurt.

His point is:
"....with 4k given away ...... I'm hoping we have more than 14k on the night. "
What is wrong with that?
Given circa 10K season ticket holders, that seems a reasonable ambition to have that even for a game v Quins our current form has got us some more supporters who will turn out even if it is considered an unattractive fixture. I would think this is what Mick Hogan and Co would like to see as well.
(For the record I think the Heinz and Worthington deals are a great idea but see no problem in hoping we get those people in AND more than just them and season ticket holders).

What's wrong with it dave is that on His OP (Not the one you Quoted) he's made 2 x points and they're both wrong.
For a start 4k tickets have not been "Given" away. They've been purchased.
Secondly on his original post he then goes on to say that "reading Between the lines" we have 10k Season tickets, "Given" 5k away so we have sold "Sod all" or Next to "Sod All" to the public.
Well considering AFIK we haven't got 10k Plus season ticket holders & we've Sold 4k to Worthingtons & Heinz that means we have "Already" Sold somehwere in the region of a a Thousand some 2 weeks in advance of the Game to the General Public.
I don't call that "Sod All" or "Next to Sod All".
They also say I Hope we have more than that on the night as though the marketting team are thinking Job Done we don't have to do anymore know! I'm sure they'll be pulling out all the stops for the next few weeks and I'd like a Little Bet that there'll be Many More than 14k come the day!
Without a shadow of a doubt this poster was trying to put a Negativity around the story, which they are more than entitiled to do, and they can do it with inaccurate "Facts" if they like. But don't get all upset when people pick them up on it and have a go Back.

| I'm still hoping to convince my wife that spending our St. Georges Day Wedding Anniversay watching Wigan V. Quinns will be a very good idea. If I manage to do that the attendance will rise to precisely 14002!!!
At the end of the day 14k+ bums on seats for the Quins match is very good. With two away games coming up I'd expect that to top 16k which quite frankly is fantastic.

Discussion is great when its rational, why would people pre buy tickets for a game against quins when they dont usually?
I dont see what you are disapointed about the majority of that 4k most likely dont go to wigan games usually. They may enjoy it and come back again its a win win situation for the club even if they dont come back they will proabbly buy a few beers, drink, pies or programmes
Wigan walk up will most likely be 2 to 4k on the day these people aint gonna pre buy tickets..

Agreed. For one of the worst supported games of the year against the worst supported team. Walk up will happen, but nearer to the time. I dont understand, why, regardless of form, the poster expects some sort of massive walk up and wishes to complain about 4 BLOODY THOUSAND tickets being sold to sponsors.
Perhaps we shouldnt bother. Sack Mick Hogan et all and save some money? I really wonder sometimes.

| Christ some are so touchy!
If a company 'buys' 4k tickets then imo they're probably giving them away. Or next to. Even if they ask folk for a fiver for them, I'm classing them as giveaways. On the basis that at least a minority of the 4k will be taken by folk who don't usually come ie wouldn't of gone + paid to go to the game without the chance of these 'freebies'.
Therefore they're 'chance sales'. They wouldn't necessarily come anyway...m
I'll throw the towel in. This is pathetic.

Explain how, even if the case you outline is correct, its a bad thing? The effects those people will have on the overall business model can't be underestimated.

| personally I don't care if they bought them for a penny.
It's irrelevant.
OK we could play it in front of a more than half empty stadium but be pleased that everyone has paid top whack.
Or we could use our heads and fill the ground as much as possible (even with free tickets) in the hope that long term some people might become supporters and start paying to come.
Its a no brainer.
If you need to think about it your too retarded to waste your time on it.

I agree Michael.
I realise however that the chance of making the remainder of empty seats up with freebies is very small. Therefore I'd 'like' to see a few more 'sold' and we get a good house on!
I can't believe I'm needing/trying to explain on such a minimal matter. Trivial

| jeeeeesus i think a few of you lot need to calm down. I think the point bowtun warrior is making is that the 14000 tickets that have "been sold" do make it sound a little bit like 14000 people have been down to the ticket office and bought them. he has never turned around and said "this is a rubbish idea blah blah blah" as some of you have seemed to insinuate. i don't care if worthington paid for them, they'll probably give them away or sell 'em cheap and its not like 4000 eager fans have bought them. for all we know, theyre giving 'em away and people are chucking them in the bin.
i'm not saying i agree with bowtun warrior im just saying that i think some of you lot are getting a bit up in arms over nothing. I don't think he was trying to put a negative spin on things, just a bit of perspective.

| Don't forget Worthington's and Heinz - and local businesses - pump quite a bit of money into the club revenue coffers - you dont seriously expect Wigan to turn round to them and say "thanks for sponsoring us this year, would you mind buying 4,000 tickets at £16 a pop?" No... they would have purchased discounted tickets for a game otherwise that would have attracted the usual 2,000 extra floating fans who pay on the night or during the week. I don't know where 'given away' comes from but in my book if you purchase something and then distribute the tickets, it isn't exactly given away is it?
I applaud local businesses for their continued support.

| I'm staggered that anyone can find a negative in this. I truly am.
I made a spoof post yesterday regarding other clubs finding this type of publicity initiative dishonourable. A friend then emailed me, to place a bet which club the first person to genuinely hold that view would come from.
I don't think either of us expected the poster to come from Wigan. But in retrospect, given other complaints that have been aired on this board in the past, perhaps we should have.

How many of last years Heinz Initiative tickets got "Thrown in the Bin"?
We'll only know on the night when there will be somewhere upto 4000 fans sat in that stand that may not neccesarily have been there otherwise (plus the income from Programmes, merchandise, drinks & Food etc) or there'll be no-one in and the club will have taken 16k in revenue that they wouldn't have.
We had 15k on for the corresponding fixture in 2009 with a similar initiative & the previosu year without this initiative we had 11.5 k.

Now apart from the Fact he got 2 statements totally incorrect are you telling me that this wasn't someone putting a Negative Spin on things? Terms Like "Sod All" or "Next to Sod all" are hardly appropriate in this instance are they?
Like I said earlier , anyones entitled to their opinion, but as I said don't get touchy (And Bear in mind the people defending Bowton Warrior are asking others to Calm Down when they're also getting their Knickers in a twist defending him) when others have a different perspective.
Hows about a Poll? Good Idea or Not? 14k Sold 2 weeks in advance of game a good thing or not?
I'd like a sneaky fiver on what the result would be!

| Its a cracking idea to sell out a whole stand even at whatever discounted rate the companies have got them for.
We have 25000 seats available, and approx 10,000 of those are taken for each game by ST sales.
So why not offer family & corporate tickets at heavily discounted rates for the less attractive fixtures? Every discounted ticket sold is a bum on a seat that would otherwise remain just a seat. Even if 95% of those bums do not reurn, 5% may do, and they will fill an otherwise empty seat at another game. Eventually, there will be 15,000 ST holders.
The only "losers" may be the ST holders who work for the companies involved, but I guess they would still get a ticket anyway and give it to a friend/neighbour who may not have otherwise attended.
The more we can do to get the town behind us this season, the bigger the rewards will be next year, particularly if football continues to price itself out of the market to the casual watcher family - two adults & two kids to watch next Wednesday's fixture at the DW would cost me £70 miniumum!

| So 14,000 tickets have been sold two weeks before the game, so how many more will be sold over the next 2 weeks. If we beat both Salford and Sheffield it should be up there with the Leeds game. This game has actually sold more tickets at this stage.

| Im with Cruncher on this one. Its remarkable what lengths some people will go to, in order to put a negative slant on things.
Last year with the Noble / Kearney / recruitment / sponsorship situations I could understand, and was a part of several "negative" threads and debates. I cant comprehend what is to be negative about this Worthingtons/Heinz deal for the Quins game.
