| Smith is a critic of the VR in general. He's mentioned this several times in the past. I agree every time and always prefer Sunday afternoon games where you get a decision there and then.
Saying that, Bentham's calls were all spot on Saturday.
Smith isn't moaning as it cost us the game - he seems to feel it disrupts the pace of the game in general.

| Their is alot of dislike for each other. But i do not blame you as warrington have caused trouble in widnes over the years. In the 80s their was fights in old cow sheds and used to spill onto the pitch.I was a young lad then.Even when they played at stobarts they smashed one of our pubs and we are in a different league.I must admit i am glad wigan beat the wire.

I thought all the decisions where the right ones. I thought King tackling Gleeson was 50/50 to be honest, King sort of sheparded Glees into that position, when Glees was only supporting Roberts (as would be expected) Solomona's decision was bang on, he clearly dropped it, and Solomona also definatly knocked on to rule out Briers(??) effort.
Still, take it away Tony.'"
To be fair, you can hardly class this as sour grapes given the fact that Tony Smith has openly expressed his opinion of video refereeing long before Saturday's match. Plus, its not as though he's commented on a particular decision; just the concept as a whole.
He was also dignified enough to praise Wigan as winners of the match.

If it was at the DW Stadium you wouldnt of got as many decisions go your way as they did on Saturday night. We could live with the pace you had far more possession in the first half and we werent helped by 50/50 decisions that most of the time went your way.

It's typical local paper journalism. There is no direct quote from Smith saying the decisions were wrong and this quote about Solomona's attempt says it all:
"“David was distraught, he was saying sorry to his mates and the coaches but he will score plenty this year and was within inches or centimetres of winning the game"
That is the player knew he dropped the ball and it wasn't a try.

| Warrington clearly need to get over this defeat. It appears to have hurt them at a deep emotional level, which is not the way to prepare for matches against other clubs, victories in which, though some Warrington fans may not believe it, are just as important as in games against Wigan.
It would also have helped if they hadn't talked themselves up so much during the close-season. Is it possible that unrealistic expectations have been instilled among the Wire faithful? If so, they will be the only sufferers.

I feel that we have a tough one coming up as well against Hudds. They'll be feeling great after nilling KR at the weekend, plus the thirst for revenge after Wembley.
At least there's no VR. I might seem a bit of a Luddite, but all it does is provide the controversy for telly.

I said on your board that if I could name a team I wouldn't want to face after a very tough and physical match against Wigan it would probably be Huddersfield.
It's not as easy getting your players up for a game against the Giants as it is a Leeds or Saints match and they'll be very tough to break down. They'll scrap and wrestle for everything and of Wire have any sort of hangover from Saturday night it could be a tough day.

it was clearly the right decision to go to the video ref then
personally i'm all for the video refs, they bring an extra bit of tension to close games. all this "disrupts the game" talk is nonsense. if you can't keep your composure in a game because you had to stand still for 2 minutes then that's a problem for you. i'd like us to have them at all super league games. unfortunately we don't have the resources to do that

Because if there had not been a video ref Warrington would have won.

I've long been torn about the video refs. So often they seem to get it wrong, and then there are those refs who always seems to go them regardless of what everyone else in the stadium except them has clearly seen.
Yet Saturday night undoubtedly proved that video refs are useful and should be utilised in as many games as possible, (though perhaps more sparingly than they currently are).
It it hadn't been for the video ref correctly disallowing those two Warrington tries, the two points would quite simply have gone to the wrong team. There's no real argument about that, and Tony Smith - who I admired for his gesture in shaking hands with the Wigan players after the game - must surely have been talking out of sheer frustration rather than voicing a genuine opinion.

| We have to keep the VR. I'll whisper this quietly...I watched Wigan Athletic v Tottenham and a VRwas definitely needed. A Spurs goal was yards off-side and there have been many incidents in football that hqave cried out for it, especially the cheating. I'm sure football will embrace it one day.
By the way, I was bored to tears.

Go back and watch the match again. Count the seconds at each tackle the player is held down. You'll find it was similar for both teams. I know because I checked. The [uonly[/u difference between the two sides is Wigan were getting penalised for it. That's often the way when the home crowd is baying for every decision. Your statement is pure nonsense I'm afraid, but one I was expecting.
On the other hand, check the number of times Warrington strip the ball with 2 in the tackle and get away with it. I wonder why you aren't complaining about that?

I understand that. Just wondering why you picked up that the only poor reffing was Wigan lying on (when the worst offender was Ben Westwood) and didn't think the ball stripping or the Mickey Higham 'accidental offside' were better examples of the poor reffing?
Of course, the point I am making is that ALL fans see it from there own teams perspective. The reffing wasn't perfect on Saturday, but over the course of the match was pretty even and unbiased and gave the right result. Wigan were [ujust[/u better on the night. A 2 point win seems about right, although had it been a draw, or even a narrow loss, I would have said "fair enough"....
