No excuse for them,but its sad that our game losses talented rugby players like those two (Newton and Hock ).

I will always remember his last game for us versus Saints when he did Long, Gilmour and Albert in the same game. All throughout the game I noticed him kissing the badge on his shirt and wondered why, then it turns out it was his last game for us.

When I was going on the lash through the nineties and onwards, if anyone wanted any drugs (not that I nor any of my mates did), then it could be obtained from a friend of a friend of a friend. I must admit the drug culture has never affected me and if you don't go looking for it you won't see it........


........And then a couple of weekends ago, I ended up in Indiependance (used to be fifteen), I was stood having a slash in the upstairs bogs and two lads at the side of me were openly sniffing cocaine and bragging how good 'the stuff' was!



Now, if it was done in the cubicles that's one thing (thats kind of hiding it), but the fact was they were completely uninterested in the fact that I was stood at the side of them - I could have been anyone (off duty copper, owner of the gaff)...????

I must be getting old, but I do fear for my two young lads who will be hitting the 'delights' of King Street in the next 10-12 years!!!

I wouldnt. Ive heard the stories and seen the photographs from an ex Fev player who mixed in their circles. He also told me how they used to get around the drugs testing

It is rife in the game, and we all know what substances we are talking about.

Newton can consider himself unlucky to be on the caught list.

As has been mentioned though, why doesnt Cullen name and shame a few.

Because you have to have the proof as well.

getting caught for drug use during the season should carry an automatic lifetime ban no matter who you are or how talented you are, then maybe players wouldn't dabble if their entire career could be finished

I knew what you meant, but the players are tested 12 months of the year. Is it two per game get selected? They turn up uninvited and the player or players have to give a sample. If he was found out in November then that just proves that it can be any time any where. There will be more than him who know which players do it, we as fans know some. Its been one hell of a year so far, Huddersfield, Cats now this.

I wouldn't ban them for all their career I would up the ban from 2 years to 4 years.

It may aswell be a lifetime ban because 4 years out of the game is a long time to just come back, 2 years isn't so bad ala Hudson, Hock, Barnet, Allen, Sailor.

If it was a 4 year ban a current superleague player would end up in NL 2 at best if they did come back.
