All the young players a year older, Eastmond in for an ageing and struggling Long, Soliola in for an ageing Gilmour, Fozzard in as an additional prop (Cayless hasn't been fully fit for the best part of 2 seasons), Moore added to the squad, Maggennis finally back in training (watch out for him this year), Puletua settled in.
If anything, we look stronger IMO, especially in the forward stakes, and we'll carry some biff up front again.'"
And a lot of the older players another year older!
It's only his opinion (And hope probably!).

Motivation seemed to be a problem for the majority of last year for Saints and alot will depend on how that gets sorted out. There just seemed to be a lack of harmony around the place.
I'd worry a touch if I were a Saints fan about a lack of direction from the halfs because even though both are really dangerous players i don't see them being able to control a game. If Cunningham(or Moore) has a good year and gets the team moving about theres no doubt theres enough size in the forwards and danger in the backs to beat most sides.

| I can see Leeds topping the table and Saints finishing second again. Then unfortunatly and as much as i hate to say it i can see Warrington finishing 3rd. I then think your looking at us, Hull KR and possibaly Catalans fighting for 4th. It all really depends on the start we make

If we get a 50/50 start in say the first 12 games and then have a similar last 15 games as the last couple of seasons and we'll be looking at 3rd place.
Our starts have been appaling in the last couple of years.
If we get off to a better then 50% winning start then we might be able to aim even higher. One things for sure these lads know how to string a second half of the season together.

I don't buy into this thing of feeling that you'll drastically drop of the pace this year, however I think you'll suffer the worst when Cunningham retires.
A Saints side with Keiron on the pitch is a far more dangerous and fearsome sight than a Saints side without him. The guidance and creativity that has got Saints out of so many tight corners will disappear with the retirement of Cunningham.
Overcoming his loss is the biggest hurdle Saints will face.

I couldn't agree with you more although IMHO that struggle started for Saints last season - Cunningham was a shadow of his former self at times.
Be interesting to see how they use Moore & Roby alongside Cunningham - Roby has become a little stale and predictable at hooker for me, I think it would benefit him and the side to move him to loose forward and let Moore and Cunningham operate at 9.

Yeah your right obviously as Cunningham has aged his effectiveness has diminished, yet they feel they can get another season out of him probably due to wanting his aura and experience around the club rather his dwindling playing ability.
Regarding Roby for me the guy's never really kicked onto that next level, and has in some respects been found out as a bit of a one tricky pony, perhaps a move to 13 would freshen him up.
As for Moore I just don't see anything in that guy, don't get me wrong he's a solid dependable player but an adequate replacement for Cunningham I don't think so. He was shown up in the four nations at the end of the year and for me he wasn't even the best hooker at Huddersfield that award would have to go to Lunt.

| Think third or four pushing it with Warrington
1 = Leeds
2 = St Helens
3 = Warrington / Wigan
4 = Wigan / Warrington
5 = Hull K R
6 = Bradford
7 = Huddersfield
8 = Catalans
9 = Hull
10 = Wakefield
11 = Castleford
12 = Harlequins
13 = Salford
14 = Crusaders

| Quote ="LovesToSpooge"Seeing as we've had a thread for people to predict what the team will be next year, I though I'd start a thread to find out where people feel we'll finish in the table in 2010.
It looks as though we've now finished are recruitment and apart from the odd one or two most other clubs have also finished there recruitment for next season.
My Prediction:
If all are players perform and work as a team I'll predict a top 4 finish.'"
Well Leeds and Saints will still be there. I don't think Huddersfield and Hull KR look as strong. Warrington have recruited well and should be up there next season as should Les Catalans.
I just hope we improve on last season position - 6th.
But if I was a betting man I would go with - 4th.

Seems a perfectly plausible prediction to me. I still happen to think Leeds and Saints will make up the top 2 again next year but can understand why some have a different view.

We have a side that can hold it's own against anyone but probably misses a couple of top draw players to push us into the top 2.
Maybe McGuire can develop a couple of players into that and if he does we'll not be a million miles off winning something.'"
Agree with this no better than last year we haven't signed anyone to improve the side
A coach can do so much but we needed to sign 1 or 2 quality players, we all expected to im sure most of the other sides have improved their squad from last year

I haven't really kept track of them to be honest so not too sure whether they'll be weaker or stronger. Why do you think weaker?

| we should do this poll again after the first game for a few reasons.
Is Fielden looking any bigger?
Is Feka/Riddell/Pryce looking any fitter?
Where does he play tommy?
If Fielden and Feka look like they are getting back to the shape they were i'd be confident of top 2 or 3, otherwise it'll be 4/5/6th.
