Indeed. It's good that we have consolidated at 14K, now it's time for the club to push on.

| Quote ="Dave T"The Wire crowd was a disappointing one, with obvious reasons, but on another date, there could have been a further 3-4k in the ground for that one.
As has been said, as an opener it could be brilliant, and just looking through the stats, I didn;t realise it had attracted 21k a couple of years back, I had in my head it was around 18k.
That shows the real potential for this game.
Overall, as a club you have to be pretty happy with the crowds, in the current climate, they have held up well, and with a little bit more luck and good fortune, you could have seen an increase.
Your club certainly make more effort in marketing that mine.'"
It is not wire that should be singled out for not putting enough into marketing! Pretty much every club is poor in this area.
Funny thing is, Wigann are not one of the clubs that need to do it.

| Basically our average is going down year on year. From 16000+ when we all stood together against relegation to 14000 ish now.
I think next season will show another drop as for many matches this year including Friday we have not really been interested, some we have lost, some won and we only seem to really put it together in about 4 matches.
Very disappointing for 2 seasons probably 3, do we deserve the support? Probably not as some players just going through the motions.
IL talked a good game saying 2010 is ours etc. lets hope so. Mr Lenegan says local players lets hope the coach (whoever) understands this, We have too many under performing imports, unfortunately on long term deals, another major error especially thought the view was 3 years max.
I think we have watched a very poor standard this year with very very few exciting trys, Pity we can't now watch NRL play offs etc. This shows real standard in UK

The relegation fighting season average was 14,445 - just a bit more than the current average so you've got your figures wrong.
The 16,039 average happened in 2007 and that was boosted because we started against Warrington (opening day crowds are always big) and played St Helens on Good Friday as well as on the final day to secure our play off hopes. Those three games saw crowds of 21,693, 24,028 & 22,031. So the high average was simply because the fixtures fell for us.
Since Simon Collinson came to the club (mid 2003ish) to lead the marketing our crowds have pretty much held.
2000 10,536
2001 11,333
2002 10,436
2003 10,216
2004 12,649
2005 13,891
2006 14,445
2007 16,039
2008 14,504
2009 14,077
Season Ticket sales have also increased from around 7,500 in 2005 to around the 10,000 mark currently.
Considering the financial climate this year and that fact that the play off farce last year p*ssed off many - they done a good job to hold firm.
Bare in mind Leeds, Hull FC, Bradford, Warrington, Hull KR, Wakefield and Harlequins have also seen drop in attendances (although some like Wigan only slight). So that's 8 of the 12 clubs with drops. Hudds slashed ticket prices dramatically and only rose 2.4%. Saints have done brilliantly this year to go up 8% but being able to fit in more than 15,100 for big games (for some reason) is a reason for that. The other rise was Cas up slightly but considering their form last year - 1.1% up is to be expected.
I also don't think it's been as bad as you make out. I think in attack we've been a lot better and have scored some great tries. Ok we lost a few games early season but personally I'll pin that pretty much on one man - Tim Smith - he was never up to the job at Stand Off. Embarrassing defence and no spark in attack. With Sam starting at 6 at home this year we've won 6 out of 8. With Smith at 6 we won only 2 out of 5 - which the two wins coming against the bottom two in the league.
I think I've made my argument!

| Always got to be impressed with Wigans attendances, your fans continue to show up(apart from semis) even though you haven't won anything for years, some fo the best and loyal fans in the game.

A perfect example is this week. We should be looking to finish the season off at home with a celebration, they are looking to parade the cup after the game, yet it hardly gets a mention. The stadium should be crammed as it is the firts home game since the final, yet the effort is minimal.
I expect 9k, when it really should be 13.2k.

Don't think I agree with Leeds v Saints, that's surely a banker as a hugh crowd any time in the season, mind I don't know who I'd have instead, maybe Saints v Bradford, they might turn up before the gloom kicks in.

Most of the clubs (even Wigan) had low 4,000ish crowds in the late 70s - early 80s. Warrington have always been behind the times though.

I would love to see Warrington filling the stadium every week, I think they assume tickets will sell themselves as they do at Leeds but the same cannot be said for other clubs.
Warrington have done really well though in the last 10 years average attendances have pretty much doubled. It would be great to see Salford, Celtic, Quins, Wakey and Cas do the same and also Fax and Widnes if they can get into super league.

To be fair they made a bit of an effort for the last few years at Wilderspool, and the first few years at HJ.

You'd have to expect a significant increase. Challenge Cup win, big name signings, feel good factor returned. If it doesn't happen you'd have to be disappointed.
This is why we MUST push for Wigan v Wire for the 1st game of the season. 22K+ attendance at least.
