Because Mcilorum was MOM in the reserves mid-week, and it would also leave us without any sort of recognised hooker. I think we'll miss riddell.

| Ainscough left out of tomorrows team. Same team as what was suppose to play last week.
Not fair tbh if you ask me what should he do to stay in the team?

To be honest, fairness has nothing to do with it.
Ainscough is clearly weak under the high ball, and Long will target him for the whole match. Richards and Roberts are stronger options in that respect.
This, I suspect, will be Noble's thinking. Whether he's right or wrong in this, if Ainscough is left out, I doubt it'll be because Noble has a downer on him.

So everytime we play Saints/A good team we are going to drop him?
Jesus christ we need to stop wrapping them in cotton wool, he isnt a kitten, and will only get better by actually playing!
He's our biggest attacking option, scored 4 trys last weekend 4 TRYS. 2 last time we played Saints & kept Gardner quiet all match.
Fair enough if he was really struggling and costing us games week in week out but he's not, he is the one whos actually winning the games, getting the points on the board.
Pathetic from Noble if true.

It comes down to the fact that noble would be sacked if we got another spanking from saints.
If we play ainscough, we have the ability to either win the game but at the same time if saints get to him early there is a very high possibility we could get trounced if they pepper him with the high ball.
Granted, if we play richards, roberts and phelps we don't have quite as much presence going forwards, we are much safer defensively.
I think that if we were near the top and pushing the the top 3/4 places, he'd play ainscough as an attacking tactic, unfortunately noble just cant risk getting trounced at the minute.

| what i find pathetic is that at least 12 maybe 13 if not all of the other Super League teams would never dream of taking a young up and comer out of a team that has 17 tires in all competitons and is the leading try scorer by 3 clear tries i'm sorry but he aint gonna learn from his mistakes playing in the reserves week in week out yeah its a risk if his defence is slightly dodgy would we have taken Robinson out of the team if he was like Ainscough is because lets face it theyre are many similarities in both players game its not just Wingers that are expected to challenge the high ball Centres do to look at Matt King for example Matt Gidley challenges the high ball as do Senior and Yeaman so i do not agree at all in taking him out of the team when he is the leading try scorer i'd rather risk us conceding 2 or 3 tries down his wing as i know he is more than capable of scoring 2 or 3 himself.

Roberts dropped what i'd call a simple-ish ball against Saints last time out to cost us the game so that shows he's not totally at ease under it either.
Richards made a schoolboy error running the ball out against Wakey
Phelps made a schoolboy error against Celtic allowing them to get an early score
With most coaches i'd really believe they were trying to protect Ainscough but with Noble i really do believe he's just not got the balls to tell the correct player(Roberts imo) that he's dropped ahead of a youngster.
Saying all that this isn't confirmed so we'll wait and see.

I'm not defending Noble. I'm merely stating what I assume his reasoning to be. He may be proved wrong, he may be proved right.
I'm guessing he'd argue that trying to devise a winning formula for Saturday is more important than 'being fair' to Ainscough.
It could also be, of course, that all the chat in St Helens about how they'll target Ainscough is a double-bluff, and that secretly they're scared of him because, even though just a kid, he's much more of a beast than Gardner - in which case Noble is falling for it hook, line and sinker.
Who can say> But for what it's worth, I'd have gone with Ainscough simply because his hunger for tries tops anyone else's in the team.

If Ainscough doesn't play but we win the game nobody will think twice about it after the game.
It's a big call if true though and coaches live and die by decisions like these.
We'll see.

| Heard from reliable source that Ainscough is not in 17.
Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere (but i couldn't find it).
Roberts should have missed for me, or Caront to at least have to have proven fitness(he is a quality centre though).
Hope this is wrong but i wouldn't put it past Noble

He won't be proved right or wrong whatever the result because no one will be able to say what effect of playing him would have had on the result if he is left out. If we win, we may well still have won with Ainscough in the side. If we lose, we may well have lost with him in the side.
I am also getting a bit sick of this bandwagon that seems to be gathering momentum that Ainscough is somehow terrible under the high ball. He caught a steepler of a bomb v Wakefield and made 50m back up the pitch!
IMO the few mistakes he has made defensively are not serious enough to have him dropped from the team. His mistakes are no worse than other players have made yet his contribution on attack is far greater.
He should be in the team and Noble's dilemma should not be whether to play him or not but which one of Phelps or Roberts to drop. Simple as that.
Dave
