| Quote ="Woody_woody"Why you making this out to be an argument between the pro Nobby and anti Nobby brigade. I'm just calling it as I see it.
People are saying our tactics were inferior but Huddersfield used pretty much the same tactics. I'd say we were dominant for most of the game in terms of field position but a couple of bad decision making from individuals cost as try scoring opportunitites.
If Richards kicks his kicks we're 12-10 up and would probably see out the game. It was a fine margin between victory and defeat tonight. It was nowhere near like the humiliation of last year and the scoreline flatters them IMO.'"
I cannot comment of the style, just from the analysis offered. The difference is it sounds like they did it better, slicker and took there chances whereas we for much of the game dominated but failed to take ours due to being clueless in attack.
Sound Like Brown picked the tactits to win as they have been far from a dull side to date, yet Noble went with the same old tried tested and failed.
To laugh at the tactics employed by Brown which was a change from his style and try to justify Wigan's who can only play against a team that has the same crap defensive pattern as us does not hold water, and that is why I am critical, Sounds like and i have to say sounds like....same crap different week, whereas Hudds changed there tactics to winning ones.

The wasn't at Brown's tactics it was at your hypocrisy. You consistently bleat about how you're more interested in exciting rugby than results but that was some dull rugby on display tonight from Huddersfield.
FWIW I applaud his tactics tonight. IMO you do whatever it takes to win.

I actually typed performance and then changed it - my apologies . You're constantly critical of boring rugby so I just thought you were after exciting rugby.
I clearly do grasp the difference beacuse I acknowledge Huddersfield put in a good 'performance' tonight but it wasn't 'exciting rugby' to watch.
Trouble is I also acknowledge Wigan's good performances when they grind out wins but you don't seem to. You're more interested in concentrating on the boring tactics employed then. You appear to have a lack of consistency in your argument.

| Woody, your spot on with the posts you have made. On another night we very well could have won that game with a little bit more composure and it is nowhere near as bad as the battering they gave us last year when they stuffed us. We had enough chances to win it tonight but just couldn't compose ourselves. Hock knocking on over the line, Roberts going over the dead ball line and of course the obstruction from Robinson just to name 3.
Yes Bentham let Huddersfield play their game of spoiling tactics but we definitely scored the more attractive tries. We actually had scored more tries than them even when they was winning by 2 until the last 10 minutes, then we let another 2 soft tries in from kicks at the end. I'm not saying that we deserved to win though because we obviously didn't with the scoreline but I don't think it's as bad as performance as some of you are making it out to be.

Correct.
The two Wigan tries came from ball movement.
The Huddersfield tries came dummy half and two kicks.
Huddersfield defensively were very good, and played the rules to the limit. They reminded me very much of the early London Broncos.
The score did not reflect the game, and certainly it was not lack of effort that cost Wigan the game.
Huddersfield came with a very basic game plan and it worked.

I do i always credit a good performance, and am happy to do so.
What examples are there of Wigan grinding out a win with a good performance please elaborate and i am happy to repost my views on it.
I am also not looking for "exciting" rugby, i am looking for signs of a quality gameplan, improvement of our flaws and consistency, something that we do not get.

Nail - head - hit. Fielden is a shadow of his former self, himself when Crabtree offered him out tonight. I've always stuck up for Noble but there were less then 5000 fans at the end and even they couldn't be bothered to boo.
We are in serious trouble here. No Captain (O'loughlin please note), no go forward, and no backline flair. I have been watching this club for 35+ years but I can't for the life of me remember such an inept, can't be bothered home performance as tonight, or for that matter the games against Wakefield and Castleford.
Thank God we have 3 years without relegation to sort this out but even then, without tough decsions being made from the top it may be too late.
Spineless. Gutless. Inept.

I only have the Radio to go on, but we always need a little more composure, enthusiasm etc. We never get it. Maybe with a different set of officials we may have won, but you play the cards you are dealt. It seems to me that we try to guess the dealer and come off worse more often than not. I'm pi$$ed off we lost to Huddersfield at home. Call me arrogant, old skool, whatever I'm pi$$ed off, I have now spat out the dummy and am off up the wooden stairs.

I saw them all. Forget the Millward season, that was a joke because of him. The Huddersfield and Hull KR games you mention, fair enough, but my point is - where have we gone from there? I can't for the life of me see what this current shower can offer to turn things round.
35 years but I came away tonight asking why I bother. First time ever.

So now you're retracting the first post?
I've seen far worse performances than tonights.
I'm disappointed with the result yes, not the effort. Had one or two decisions gone Wigans way they would have won the game, but I've watched Wigan for the best part of 60 years and we have always struggled against teams who "spot".
Let's give Huddersfield some credit, they came with a very basic game plan. They were far less adventurous than Wigan, but defended well, played the referee, and were deserved victors, but not by that margin.

| If you lot are really feeling that low you are more than welcome to come to Rochdale on Sunday and witness the renaissance of a rugby league club.
We are owned by the fans and run by the fans but we haven't got enough of them, you have!
It's £12 in and 16s and under are FREE!
Come and see how the other half live and then let's see if you complain next week.
Pugwash.
