Agreed. It's not about results, it's about attitude and performance. If he dropped a few and the new team stuck together - whatever the result - I would back them - and him - 100%.

Absolutely. Last season and this season we've played boring rugby. If Nobby is addressing this and bringing set plays in, as promised at the fans forum, then great. If the players aren't putting these plays in motion on match day then there's something wrong. Are they not doing it because they're incapable, under pressure, don't want to? Whatever the reason, it needs resolving.

| We also have around 40% of the SC on four or five players.
Many of the recent signings were to stack up numbers as it was a small squad. A lot of the players are simply not good enough for a club that wants to get to the top of the League.
Only when some of these vast earners come off contract can we re-negotiate for the ones we want to keep and replace the others.
If Noble did depart then who would we get?
Cullen - not good enough? Hanley - A self publicist of the highest order.
Neither are suitable for Wigan.
Stick with Noble and see who he identifies for 2010.
In the meantime IL should bring forward his possible mid season signing to an early season arrival.

Bloody hell. Somebody else who has access to player wages. Or did IL say this at a fans forum or something?

| With what Ted is saying about IL signings and not Noble signings, didnt some people (wigan fans) in Austrailia for the world cup talk to Noble over there and Noble said he didnt want Piggy and identified someone else but IL insisted on him? Im sure someone posted this.

| Hindsight- Dont sign Phelps for this year, dont sign Piggy, dont sign Roberts, dont sign Smith, dont retain Mathers.
Move for Buderus, Jeremy Smith and Brett Hodgson so 3 overseas instead of 4 and im absolutly sure that gives us enough money to move for another prop and retain Colban. Colban not the greatest player in a Wigan shirt but better than Mathers and more than good enough to compete with Ainscough to cover the wings if Pat is needed to drop to FB.
1. Hodgson.
2. Pryce/Colban/Ainscough.
3.Goulding.
4. Carmont.
5. Paaat
6. J. Smith
7. Tommy
8. Fielden
9. Buderus
10. Prescott
11. Hock
12. Bailey/Hansen/J.Tomkins
13. Locky
14. Feka
15. Eamonn/New Prop/Coley
16. McIlloram/S.Tomkins
17.Hansen/J.Tomkins/Bailey
Plenty of options IMO.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing cocker. The thing Wigan employ Lenegan and Noble for (yes IL will be an employee as well as the owner) is foresight, something that prevents us signing/retaining the wrong people!

It wasn't Buderus. I'm not a big fan of the NRL so the name mentioned didn't stick in my mind (plus I'd had a few, it was Oz after all) the only thing that stuck in my mind was Piggy was Nobby's second choice.
So I think it's harsh to say Nobby didn't want Piggy he just wasn't his first option. Nobby was definitely very positive about him and it came across as although we may have failed in getting our target we still have a star player. He hasn't shown it yet but let's remember it's only three games in.

I'm pretty sure it was the Bronco's hooker Michael Ennis, although I think he's signed with the Bulldogs for this season.

The POB is a lot slower in Australia than over here, especially relevant to a player in his position.
He also played very little rugby in the last few months.
He's always been a larger player, on the boundaries of fitness levels.
All sensible reasons as to why Piggy ain't firing yet, I'm sure we'll see the best of him soon.

There should be no room for failure at Wigan but for some reason they seem to have rationalised it in there own minds that it's ok.
To be honest it's insulting to the fans who turn up every week and pay what they do. If these games aren't as important as the ones later on in the season why not charge friendly prices as that what they seem to be considered as by BN and IL/'"
Yes, I'm sick of that "this competition is won in October, not February" line as well. Why didn't the interviewer in question point out that, 9 times out of 10, the comp is won in October by a team that finishes in the top 2? Which is probably not going to feature a team who've lost their first 3 to bottom-half clubs!

I think it's just called 'positive spin'. I don't believe anyone at Wigan seriously thinks that to start with 3 defeats is okay.
If we'd started with 3 victories, they'd be rightly over the moon.
IMO, we're attaching too much importance to a brief interview given by a man under a lot of pressure.

| From what the Aussie press were saying at the time of Buderus & Hodgson signing is they were both getting a fortune.
IL has stated that the days of Wigan paying over the odds for players are over.
As for me knowing players wages, of course I don't.
IL has said at a FF that there are large contracts in place and that end of 2009 we should be able to get a bettter balance of players/salaries.
He also said that we could only judge him from 2010 because of this.
Lets hope he gives the same latitude to Brian Noble.

Fair enough. It's not as if I want Noble to panic about this! I'd just feel a bit better if he acknowledged that this is serious, rather than attempting to play it down. I hope he's right and the team comes good and bounces back. But, even if they do, that's 6 competition points gone beyond recall.

There's no doubt it's been a catastrophic start to the season. But I think it's been even more catastrophic for Brian Noble. When he came to Wigan, he was regarded as the best British coach. Since then, that reputation has become badly tarnished. If we now embark on a Millward-type disaster run, Noble may not just get shown the door at Wigan, he might never work as a top-level coach again. IM's stock has never been the same since he almost got us relegated.

| Too right. If Noble had left after last season, he would have been a very much in demand coach. Now, he needs to start making things happen again at Wigan, or his career will be seriously tarnished.

And that is the cut throat world of top level coaching! You’re only as good as your last set of recent results. If it was any other way the likes of Monie, Mcrae, Millward & Hanley would be in high demand as they have won everything.
I do think tho Noble will get another job after this one as he seems to be the type of person who clubs will employ he has few ‘enemies’ in the game and has a good rep i can't say the same of Hanley or Milward tho. The only problem is it’s not working out for him at Wigan that’s all.

This is key. Noble is putting whatever kind of spin he can on things to try and keep the pressure off the team. If anyone truely thinks he doesnt care about the results, they are the ones with the real problems.
