Calderwood spent his time at Wigan without any service and it seems that Roberts is going to do the same..


The truth is we should never have signed Calderwood or indeed Roberts we should have strengthened in other areas.

Calderwood's game mainly depends on the centre inside him.

If he's given the correct service then he'll do his job, but he needs the right tools to do his job correctly.

With Walker outside him whilst at Leeds, he had a solid partnership and good understanding with his centre and they combined well, but at Wigan he had very little service and no foundations to build up a good centre/wing partnership.

Tonight we must be wary of Greame Horne and his attempts to draw/beat defenders to open up space for Calderwood. Luckily for us, we'll have Carmont and Richards up against them.

You say this but how was Vainakolo top try scorer almost every year in Super League and how was Pat Richards our top try scorer last year?

On paper and on his nrl experience, yes... but it certainly didnt look that way on sunday

give him a few games. same with the rest of the lads. it's going to take something special for us to play as bad as we did last sunday.

So we can only judge Roberts on last Sunday I take it.

How many of Richards trys were scored with a kick and catch? Hardly 'open, flowing' rugby. And how many of Vainakolo's trys were barges over from 5 metres out?

Ade Gardner scores try without a hand being put on him as did Calderwood at Leeds. Now we're not talking about world class wingers here. In fact I'd have Richards over either of them.

i can see why noble used les' size to barge over but he was a skillful player as well so didnt need to do that as much for me

i would also take richards over both of them and, if it werent for his kicking, id have dallas over richards

Vainakolo is/was leagues above any of those players.

Looking forward to G Horne linking up With Calders, Horne has a great offload so hopefully enticing the defence to him and releasing calderwood!

Will have to wait and see though. My only worry is that Right Centre will be filled by a few people this year rather than a specialist

When Calderwood was scoring loads of tries at leeds Nobby didnt pick him for the GB team..he obviously had/has a problem with him.

Why?

Because our club (well Nobby) treated him badly in my opinion

seems the trend at Wigan for the last few years. Not saying we treat all players bad but something seems to happen to players with big reputations when they pull on the cherry and white !
