Regardless, I think we should sign Hock; before his ban he was the best back rower at the club, and I see no reason why he can't again be one of our best players after his ban.

I agree with you though that we will need to let a few go if we bring in Lima and Hoffman in the forwards.

I think we should keep all 6 back rowers listed above, however I'd loan Tuson out for a year; I can't see him getting much gametime ahead of O'Loughlin, Hoffman, Hansen, J Tomkins, Farrell, and with Mossop and Hock being able to play in the back row too. I'd even be tempted to loan out Farrell to another Super League club, to get him a full season of SL rugby because he too will only be seeing limited game time next year at Wigan imo.

Of the props, I'd loan out Davies and O'Carroll to SL clubs, and then offer Fielden (2/3 years), Coley (1 year) and Prescott (2 years) new contracts.

Of course, that is all on the assumption we have signed Hiffman and Lima, and that we'll eb able to find SL clubs to take some of our players on loan; I see no advantage in some of them going to play Championship rugby.

I just can't get my head around any move for Quinn unless Roberts is leaving(which I really hope isn't the case).

Guys like Goulding, Pryce, Ainscough, Charnley and Marsh offer more then enough quality and competition for a position on that right wing that has been a dream role to be handed this season.

Seriously hope we dont make major changes (5 players+), we've only just got the team performing without having drastic chopping & changing.

The only way I can fathom signing Quinn is if Phelps leaves, putting Roberts to FB, Sam back to HB and Quinn on the wing vacated by Roberts. However then theres the issue of 'blocking Goulding/Pryce's path' into the starting line up. IF we did sign him, I for one would be really intrigued as to who leaves/switches position.

I personally would rather sign a specialist FB leaving Roberts and Pat on the wing, and Sam in the halves where he belongs.

Agreed, it could potentially disrupt the teams confidence if 5 players were dropped, especially if they were big players ie. Roberts, Coley etc. (not saying those two would be dropped, just used them as an example)

The maximum we should be looking at is 4 players leaving and 3 coming in. If those are as rumoured Phelps, Bailey, Feka and Riddell out with Finch, Lima and Hoffman in i'll be more then happy and it should set the squad up for a pretty settled period.

If we ended up signing 4 or 5 players with guys like Fielden and Roberts leaving top of those already rumoured it would be tough for the squad to really gel together in time for the start of next season.

Not quite as much of a dream role though as the left wing outside Carmont



I agree though a move for a winger is the last thing we need, especially after Goulding playing so well this year. I just cant see it being true, particularly as Goulding was granted a contract extension and presumably a pay rise. The club is hardly going to do that to have him sitting in the u21s all year. Also as you say with the likes of Charnley and Marsh coming through it definately makes no sense as it makes them more unlikely to get games.

I'd be happy with the 4 (riddell, Feka, Phelps, Bailey) out 3 (Lima, Hoffman, Finch) in.

That way we are actually creating a full time squad place for a Wigan youngster.

He triggers an extra year if he plays a certain amount of games, and as he's only missed two this year you'd imagine it would be all but triggered.

I don't have an issue with that really, I was sceptical before the season due to his body falling to pieces but injuries haven't been an issue this year, and he's quietly been having another very good season.

I would still like us to sign a hooker though as I am not convinced about a Leuluai/McIlorum combination but if we do sign Finch that indicates that is the way we are going.

I think it is more probable that 5 will be going out, Riddell, Feka, Phelps, Bailey and Pryce and 3 will come in Lima, Hoffman and Finch. The remainder of the money will be put aside for Hock's return. Considering none of these 5 players, bar Riddell which is out of the clubs hands, would be in many peoples 17 then our team will be strengthened enormously for next season imo.

Just it seems hard to believe wigan could fit all these under the cap.

If we get rid of Riddell, Feka, Phelps, Bailey and Pryce who are all off contract then it is easily possible.

I doubt we'll get them all but I DO think we could fit them under the cap. All our youngsters had major contract upgrades last time around so I doubt there'll be anything significant other than the standard yearly next season. Of the ones leaving Feka, Riddell and Baily were on big or biggish money and there'll either be a significant reduction in fielden's wage or we may even lose it altogether depending on whether he stays or not. His wage alone would pay for 2 players and the other 3 for a player apiece. Then there's Phelps and Pryce (possibly) on top, not to mention the fact that, if this season is anything to go by, a chunk more cap saved with loan agreements. I reckon that would more than cover any or all of the rumoured incomings..

Plus Fielden on a vastly reduced contract from his one under Maurice Lindsay's "panic signing" contract which is about to expire.

I take it fielden would also take a big reduction as he ain't a patch on the player you signed so you would have some cap space.

If we sign all three I'd state we would attract an 18k+ average next season.

We thought we'd have massive cap space with alot of big stars going over the last few years but for some reason we didn't replace them and chose to bring young kids thru (huge mistake).

It is possible if you release those players.

Do we A- actually believe we'd sign all five and B- Need all five? Pick one of either Lima or White and trust guys like Prescott or Davies to excel with more quality around them.

Finch, Lima & Hoffman are who we need in order of priority. Let's not go crazy here and sign everyone without looking at the whole picture.

Four out in Piggy, Feka, Phelps and Bailey and three in is excellent work. Four out and four Aussies in isn't so good IMO.

There is no maybe about it. No doubt they will be on a good wage but Riddell, Feka and Bailey are all on a very good wage too. Pryce is also on a decent wage (quite a lot depending on who you talk to) and I cant see Phelps being on peanuts either. This coupled with Fieldens contract reduction means they can be fitted under the cap. I doubt very much that we will sign Quinn due to all the reasons on this thread and in particular the fact we dont need him.
