I would be disapointed if he went to another UK club, but he is one of the bad influences at the club as you all call him when you see him out in Wigan, you will never remove Long from Gleeson there is the problem.'"
I keep hearing this. Yet Gleeson wanting to go to Aus and anyone in Aus wanting to take him may be two different things.
Brian Noble was confidently expecting to go to Aus after a couple of years at Wigan, and look what happened there.

| Quote ="{Hogan}"Its the word on the street at the moment. Gleeson to Wigan, Wigan offering £££ plus Mathers an Phelps to Wire.
IF its true, and IF it comes off, i personally think its just what is need for both Wigan and Gleeson. We need more attacking options out wide, we need a player that can compliment Roberts being on the wing. Gleeson needs to move away from the culture at Warrington and hopefully re-start his career.
I couldnt give a monkeys if his has a poor off field track record, Wigan are currently that boring that if Bin Laden wasa good RL player i would offer him a deal and cheer his name when he scores. Anything to see Wigan play entertaining RL.'"
Is a quality right centre going to make that happen though? Surely we need more than just that?

Absolutely. All we need to do next is tempt Tony Smith to come with him.

| Gleeson would strengthen our backs 100 per cent.
Okay, he has his problems and isnt exactly the greatest player we could ever sign, but he isnt the oldest.. and he is better than the rest of our centre options bar Carmont, although on his day he is probably on par with him.
I'd love to see Goulding come back after a year however.

It's a tricky one for me. Yes he's a quality player but who misses out? If he goes to fullback then Richards moves to wing and either Ainscough or Roberts miss out. Roberts has a 4 year deal so he won't be replaced and Ainscough is a promising young player, and arguably our player of the year so far, so he shouldn't be dropped.
There are other positions I'd rather strengthen at the moment.

Good player but overrated and we have far higher priorities.

I'm sure his wage demands alone will render this a non-starter.

| Gleeson IS set to sign for Wigan, my understanding however is that it is for 2010.
Mathers will be out of Wigan in the next few weeks.

The Mathers situation is pretty sad. The lad clearly had talent, otherwise he'd never have got a berth in Australia. But injuries, and presumably the way he was sidelined by the Aussies, seem to have devastated his confidence.
By all accounts he's a nice chap, popular with the other players and the management. He also looks to be a good club-man - his one positive contribution during matches is the encouragement and ethusiasm he offers the rest of the lads. But his horrendous lack of rugby ability has become an insurmountable problem IMO. He hasn't improved from last season; in fact, on the few occasions we've seen him this year, he's been woeful.
It makes you wonder if the oft-mentioned assumption that sending a player to Australia "will massively improve his game and bring him home a better man for it" is actually a load of tosh. It certainly didn't work that way with Mathers.

I agree, apart from the Australia bit - I don't think the fact that he went there had anything to do with it.
The fact is that he suffered two terrible injuries that have completely robbed him of any confidence he had. Myself and I'm sure anyone else who plays sport at a competitive level will tell you that playing the game without confidence and not being able to play to the standards you know you're capable of is unbelievably frustrating and I certainly feel for Mathers.

| Gleeson is signing for us this week with Goulding and Mathers going the other way. For 2009 season.
Tattooed boy isn't signing for wigan. end of.
Wigan's likely targets are Leuluai from Leeds and Lynch from Bradford. I can see Fielden going back to Bradford.
Richards will start at FB and that will be his position from 2010, no Micheal signing for us.

That would be great if all that was true. Especially getting two new experienced props who would give us great go forward. Or is it just one of Lynch and Leuluai? You seem pretty confident about the Gleeson deal too. Why are you so confident?
The deal makes sense as Goulding has apparently asked for a transfer and Tony Smith has worked with Mathers at Leeds.

| I can't say. But if you look at other signing talk posts I have never passed comment on someone defo signing before. This is the first time I've put my neck on the line.
So trust me on this one. He's signing this week (Gleeson) If he doesn't, I'll become the 'Last Son of Wire' and then top myself.
Not sure if it's Lynch and LuLu or just one. Just know they're the deals being neg.

I don't think he will be doing though! ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif) He's spot on and like Last Son of Wigan Iv'e only put my neck on the line Twice before (Ashton Leaving & the Fielden sigining!).
PS
He's not far off with the Lynch thing either (Noble's driving that one), whether Noble will be here to reap any benefits is another matter!
