i once went to the airshow....awesome, but gets boring after a bit.
and if anyone thinks the sound of the red arrows going over is noisy, what about the fighter jets that train around north wales?
i once went to RAF Valley in anglesey, where they are based. Theres a spot you can stand in at the end of the runway.
you can watch them accelerate along the runway coming directly at you, then at last second they take off and fly straight over your head with a deafening roar..........not for the faint hearted

| Was walking into town after the reserve game and mentioned it to the missus as it roared overhead. "What's a Vulcan?"

| Quote ="Grego"Just got back from the airshow, it was great. Last chance to see the Vulcan fly at one of those i think though unfortunately (as hogan says) as it costs about £1.5 million a year to keep it up there. A great shame imo as it is fantastic to watch at low level. Like you say, a very loud aircraft, although the Typhoon trumped it on that card. Bloody deafening that thing is and extreemely impressive to watch. Will post one or two picks from my phone when i get a chance.'"
Remember seeing the Vulcan at the Barton Airshow (same aircraft XH55icon_cool.gif before it was grounded..the announcer said they would try to keep the noise down due to complaints from the previous year.................from Birmingham

| I first saw a Vulcan in flight a long time ago when I was at St. Andrews as a 16 year old for a week looking around at the Uni. On the last day our train was later on so we were walking on the beech and one flew in not very high at all. You could easily make out eh pilot looking out!
One of the loudest planes I have seen was Concorde. This did a low level fly past at Brands Hatch at a British Grand Prix and did a very un-airliner type manoeuvre of almost going straight up - the ground literally shook.
This also reminds me of one of my Uncles who was visiting relatives in Canada when Concorde was due to make it's maiden flight to the USA. They when down to see it land and there was apparently a massive queue of cars waiting to get in and park up. While waiting in the queue someone came up and was handing out leaflets protesting about he plane and the noise it made. When they offered one to my Uncle he refused to take one. When asked why his replay was - Because I'm British!

| It's the only Vulcan flying, and was only re-conditioned last year to get it back up in the air as the public had missed it so much - let's hope it stays there, eh?
I'm from the West Coast of Scotland originally, and Concorde used to do its pilot test flights and landings (circuits and bumps!) around that area, often flying past the house - damn, that was loud, but think the Vulcan beats it for sheer volume when it wants to!

Was doing a road survey job in the North Wales valleys once and 3 fighter jets and one larger military plane flew low down through the valleys. Must say it is an awesome sight!!

| We happened to be in Bowness a couple of months back when it made an appearance at the Windermere airshow.
It was incredible.
To begin his display the pilot flew so slowly down the lake you thought it wouldn't stay up! and it was virtually silent. Then he just pointed it to the sky and let rip... Awesome noise!
Strange how a plane, you have no connection to, can make you feel proper proud!

Feel the same way about the "Battle of Britain" flight - the spit still sounds awesome - sends a tingle up your spine.

| hope you dont mind an anecdote from t'other side of the 'ills.
Used to see the Vulcans regularily fly over the part of leeds i lived at when a kid.Could see them on North/South flights from miles away(exhaust is jet black),always figured our house was a target as they flew low overhead.,lol!
Yanks used to go gaga over them when in service and participating in REDFLAG EXERCISES in Nevada. They had never seen anything like them fly so low or aerobatically through the desert canyons!!!I did read that when they were due to do flights, the observation rooms which monitored the target areas were jammed with folk wanting to watch the CCTV as "the ALUM-IN-UM OVERCAST" went through.
By the way...as i recall they were designed as HIGH LEVEL bombers and subsequently used LOWLEVEL....but still only had TWO ejector seats with a crew of 5 i think.
Bored you enough so off now....cheers peeps.

| I once saw a Hercules flying through the valley that runs from Holmfirth to Greenfield. Quite a surreal sight to see a plane of that size flying almost next to you.
