Because coaches don't normally wash their dirty linen in public. Ainscough was disciplined last season, and that never came out either.

| hmm - I agreed to give him a week off but two weeks off is ridiculous he has outplayed both Pat and Amos this season and deserves to start most games.
Hopefully he'll start vs Saints at murrayfield.

There is difference between washing you dirty linen in public and telling outright lies. In the last two weeks Noble has sung his praises twice yet the rumour is he has been dropped for disciplinary reasons.
In any case what is the problem with stating the reason he has been dropped IS for disciplinary reasons if that is the case? It shows the club won't stand for poor discipline whereas covering it up is inherently more dangerous because it leads to rumours and speculation that drags on, which is IMO more damaging than being upfront.

So if Ainscough has done something stupid, it's still Noble's fault.

| I'd certainly be tempted to go with Phelps at fullback. Coming forward he seems a better player than Richards. We'll have to see what he's like defending when he's eventually exposed but he dealt with a 1 on 1 tackle very well against Celtic. I know that's something an RL player should be able to do but it's not something we've seen from our fullback for a couple of seasons.

For once I agree with you. If the club were to reveal Ainscough had been dropped due to discipline it would:
1) Give fans the faith their club isn't soft and are running a tight ship. (i.e no player is bigger than the club)
2) Reassure the fans that Ainscough's dropping isn't anything to do with form, at present people have already lost faith in Nobby, dropping our top try scorer without explanation isn't helping his course.

During the Millward-era, Chris Ashton was allegedly booted off the players coach in front of the other players just before departing for an away game and was dropped from the squad.

During the Millward-era, the players would not allow Millward on the coach journey back from Castleford.

Exactly. I would think few people would agree with dropping Ainscough for two games in a row to rest him given the form of the players replacing him, so without explanation it's just appears another mysterious Noble selection.
Because it is such an odd decision what happens? We are having discussions whether or not Ainscough has been a naughty boy!

Richards is a solid FB at best.
IMO Phelps has shown some potential that he could be better than Richards so IMO he should get a run in the team to prove his worth. His link up play in attack is really really good and its something Pat cannot do.

That's the point exactly. Ainscough may be a 'young' player, but he is the top tryscorer in the league, so to pretend he is somehow not yet ready to play every game is just crazy. Far, far too much is made of this 'protecting young players' thing. It's a largely nonsensical concept used as a smokescreen to excuse picking high-profile under-achievers instead, to justify poor recruitment.

| Richards should be rested until fit. Phelps to remain at fullback until then, I would also like to see Phelps given a go at 6.
Ainscough should be in, but with a lack of balance in the squad, its always going to be a difficult thing, so if he has been naughty, then its made the decision easy!

| Dave, I would hate to have you as a manager.
The team/ player discipline should be kept in house.
It may not be the reason Ainscough is out of the side. FYI another player was left out of the side for disciplinary reasons early in the season and that was not and IMO should not be made public.

I agree with you, Dave. I'd rather we saw Ainscough in the first team as well. And I'm sick to death of Noble's odd decision-making.
But at the end of the day, he's the head coach and must be allowed to select his own team. Yes, fans are bound to speculate and rumour-mong, but that's always happened - and the full truth was never told in the days of great coaches like Lowe and Monie any more than it is now.
Perhaps we ought to remember that Noble is in full control of team affairs, while we - even those among us who profess inside knowledge - are really on the sidelines. He knows far more about what's been going on in training and in the players' lives than we do. There could be any number of reasons why Ainscough hasn't been selected. To assume that it's nothing more than a case of utter stupidity by Noble - while that MAY be true - is perhaps oversimplifying things.
On this board, we - and I include myself in this - spout far too often without knowing the full facts.

If that happens Ainscough won't get back in the side. So the most effective strike player we have seen in the side for a while is dropped for a player who, had his name been Goulding, would have been dropped like a hot potato for the mistakes he made v Celtic.

This is sports club not a company where such things [iare[/i kept in house. When players are dropped for disciplinary reasons if often makes the press and clubs often announce such decisions and for good reason.
Someone in the press is bound to ask Noble why has he been dropped again so if it's for disciplinary reasons Noble is better saying so then making something up because if it is subsequently found out the reason he was dropped [iwas[/i disciplinary reasons, Noble looks a fool.
Quote It may not be the reason Ainscough is out of the side. FYI another player was left out of the side for disciplinary reasons early in the season and that was not and IMO should not be made public.'"
So if Noble is asked "Why is Ainscough being left out again" by the press, your recommendation would be for him to lie rather than give the real reason?
Furthermore now there is a rumour he has been dropped for disciplinary reasons, if the press asked specifically if that was the case, would you recommend Noble to lie again and say "no"?
