To be honest I think Joel’s behaviour is a sad reflection of society today. I’ve been subjected to that kind of abuse countless times at work, dished out by everyone from groups of youths of a Friday night to suited city workers on a Monday morning.

Sadly I’m sure that most people in a customer facing role have also experienced similar.

That’s not to say I condone his behaviour, far from it I’m just trying to put it in perspective.

I get the feeling the second is worse than the first. It’s only a matter of time before that one gets released. We also know now where the payment came from and it was Joel NOT the club.

I think you are right about it being a sad reflection on society. Bad behaviour ranges from what I see as some peoples staggering sense of entitlement (as in treating any customer facing staff like serfs there to do their bidding and the demands they make of them) all the way up to outright abuse. However I don't think whether or not society has taken a turn for the worse in this regard generally means JT's actions are even close to par for the course these days. But even if they were any well known figure behaving like that is going to be called out for it as he has been.

Sam actually just posted the second video on Twitter. And it is indeed MUCH worse than the first.

Complete idiocy from Joel and I find it bizarre Sam doesn't attempt to prevent him from carrying on.
Although to say it is worse than the first is wrong, both videos bad but the first was the most damaging.
It is no excuse but worse gets said in pubs in every town across the country every weekend.
I know like the vast majority of the population I have regretted my actions when i have drank heavily. Luckily for me I haven't been filmed and I am not in the public eye.
One thing I must say (and I am sure I will be shot down for this) it came across like the barmaids revealed in the situation to an extent. Joel's behaviour was unacceptable but to accept an apology, take money from somebody in return to delete footage then release it is in my view morally wrong.

Interesting to hear one of the staff say to Sam Tomkins “take your mate out”. Amongst the condemnation, there have been a few comments along the lines of “they only filmed them because they are rugby players”. As the bar staff didn’t know they were brothers, it seems unlikely they knew who they were at all.

Think he’s got to go. He physically intimidated the member of staff at the door by putting his face into her’s and then strikes out at the member of staff who is filming (as she is entitled to).

I find that bizarre. At no point do I see the bar staff do anything but try and get Sam and Joel to leave.
I’m afraid Joel’s an absolute mug for thinking he could just pay for a video to be deleted.

**Edit** She does but after Joel has used his name a couple of times but her comment that ‘it won’t be my career ruined’ is a pretty clear indication that she knows who they are.

Joel’s in huge danger of being shown the door IMO but Sam Tomkins hasn’t done a great deal wrong other then being totally bladdered.

He does around 20 seconds in to that second video and has hold of Joels arm but Joel twice tells him to get off and on the second occasion sounds more aggressive as though he’d lose it with him if he didn’t. I know who I’d back in a fight so I can see why Sam Tomkins wouldn’t be much more forceful.

Sams actions throughout both videos are pretty controlled. He’s giving it a bit until he realises they’re being filmed but at least he was smart enough to can it at that point. It’s Joel who’s at fault in all this for me and who’s in danger of losing his job with Wigan. As much as anyone I’d say he owes Sam an apology for dragging him in to something really avoidable. Had he just thrown a couple of drunken verbals and walked then certainly Sam and probably neither would have had their names dragged through the mud like this.

I think the only way forward is to remove Joel from the club ASAP, utterly disgraceful and shameful on the club.

If this was in another other profession where Joel was a public figure he would be gone by now.

Position ooks untenable now which is horrible for all concerned. I include Joel in that.

That said. The fact that he is making apologies publicly might be an indication that IL might not sack him.

The second video comfirms my opinion that Joel is an idiot and Sam hasn't done much wrong (that has been caught on camera). Quite a few times Sam can be seen either trying to drag Joel away or at least trying to get his body in the way.

It's coming across as a little shady on the other side of the camera too; the start of the second video seems to be a little antagonistic and a little more cynical. It's mentioned in the first video about ruining careers etc so to me knew what they were doing and knew of the intention to distribute the footage. I wouldn't be surprised if her "shock" of the footage ending up online is completely fake. I was messaged by someone on another RL forum who claimed to be the grandad of one of the girls and he said she was offered £600 but said she wanted more.

I think you've got a total bellend of an RL player who has acted appallingly and someone who has been quite clever from the start and seen the opportunity. Whilst one doesn't cancel the other out (and don't get me wrong, Joel is much much much worse) but I couldn't claim the moral highground after basically negotiating a higher amount of hush money and then leaking the footage anyway.

Not admonishing anyone from any blame here, as it’s completely indefensible, but does anyone know what caused all this in the first place?
