No chance! He played better than he has for us when he played for Bradford. He is massive, someone needs to give him confidence and he could be deavastating, he should be knocking players of their feet, he is built like a prop.

He was one of the best players in the world club challenge against wests, he still has loads of potential but he still doesn't look fit.

Would love to see him reach his potential, he could and should be a match winner! His 'lazy' attitued, is i think just the way he is, get a good off season under him with a quality conditioner, and i reakon he could make a big impact next year.

However he will probably be booed in the warm up and put under massive pressure should he not go the length of the field, whilst beating each man at least twice!

Am i correct in thinking that Mcguire was a possibility for that role?. If John Lang has now filled it, is it on a permanent basis?.

So Wane has declared he wants the job and McGuire isnt going to Souths.

Personally would love Wane as #2 to McGuire, but when we finally reveal who it is, I would love to know the reasons why we made that choice beyond the expected "he deserves a chance".

You mean you'd like a list of all the tried and tested coaches we approached first who said 'no', and the various reasons they gave? Because that's what your question really amounts to.

Do you think any chairman would give out that kind of information? Wouldn't it be a tad humiliating for the club?

You might get one or two who perhaps were beyond Wigan's reach for understandable reasons - Wayne Bennett with his disabled kids, etc, who you wouldn't be ashamed to talk about. But if what you really want here is Ian Lenagan to publicise every single rejection letter he's received ...

"Wigan weren't prepared to pay me enough because these days they're very, very stingy," or "Wigan isn't as sexy a place as Sydney" or "Wigan's squad is too crap even for me to guarantee success" or "I like Wigan, but Mr. Lenagan, you're just not as cool an operator as Mo" ...

I think you'll be waiting a long time, and not surprisingly.

Okay, that's an exaggeration. But the alternative isn't much better. Suppose Wigan do appoint Shaun Wane. Instead of saying "he deserves a chance," or "we thought him the best man for the job" - the sort of explanations that you've already decided you won't be satisfied with, would complete clarity really be the way to go?

"Shaun is way inferior to what we really hoped to get, but as no-one else wants to come, we thought we'd give him a shot. I appreciate that this isn't much of an endorsement for Shaun, but we've really no other option at the present time and at least no-one can now accuse us of being dishonest. Shaun starts tomorrow morning by the way - at least I hope so. He probably hasn't seen this press release yet."

This of course a tongue-in-cheek post. But I don't really see what Wigan can do to satisfy you in these circs, other than give Shaun a big vote of confidence. We all know his qualities without Wigan having to list them.

I understand what you mean, and no, I dont think we will find out, but that doesnt mean I wouldnt like to know how IL went about this process, sadly, i suspect we would then find Wane was the last hope rather than the first choice.

Still, if he is the man, I hope he succeeds, I just find it amazing that we couldnt attract some high quality applicants.

Not amazing. Unbelieveable would be more like it. We must have had real good quality coaches knocking IL's door down, surely? Have we actually become that unattractive a proposition? Could it be that IL is not willing to pay the going rate for a coach in the same way that he appears to under value prop forwards?

I think it's become apparent that all recruitment is now on this basis.

I'm happy for Wane to be given the chance. Actually i'm starting to get excited about the prospect..I just remember the last time a passionate wiganer took over.I'm not saying he'll have the same effect but passion seems lost sometimes with this team..and if Wane is in control the players will show passion are they will be knocked across the dressing room and in the reserves the week after.

We need more than just passion but IMO this side with 1-2 added have what in takes to win.

EDIT: how has he JUST made progress, he's brought us a long way from when he took over. But from what i remember we finished higher up the league last year, maybe the year before as well.

If you mean from when he took over then yes he definatly has but I don't think he is the man to take us much further.

If you mean from the beggining of the season then your wrong. We always start slow and pick up at the end of the season.
