| That was dreadful.
90+ minutes of absolute boredom.
How anyone can watch that week in week out is beyond me.
A bloke I know paid £645 for a season ticket at Anfield last season.
That was for one BTW.

| Said I wasn't going to watch any of the World Cup because it is so boring but I relented tonight...boy, what a mistake! It was terrible. Life is too short to waste two hours watching that.
I won't make the same mistake again.

Spot on! Just texted the same thing to some extremely disillusioned, flag-waving, England Girlyball friends that i know.
And advised them to tune in on Sunday, if they want to see a sport played with REAL passion and commitment, desire, skill....And where men dont fall over each and every blade of grass in simulated agony!
Even if Wigan come unstuck against the Skints, it will still be a zillion times more exciting than that pile of over-hyped that purports to represent our 'National' game!!

| Trying my hardest not to be biased, but people are brought up purely on how the tabloids wants us to think.
I'd average a guess that 3 out of 10 big games in football are dire and boring, i.e. Man Utd v Liverpool, whereas 8 out of 10 of games in RL (aren't necessarily dire, just completed at half time), i'e Saints v Wigan.

Well me and my eldest son decided we'd watch the WC this time and make a go of it (you have to try) but as 16 year old's do he forgot and arranged to watch the game at his mates and thank God he did.
No one else in tonight so I started watching it and I am not joking I really did fall asleep. Now old fart that I am I don't normally have an early evening nap but Eng-er-land sent me off to the land of nod.

| The odd thing is that there were quite a few shots on goal, and yet it was still boring, frustrating, and, despite the very high stakes, offered no entertainment at all.
I'm still waiting for the day when several million people in Britain all suddenly wake up and say: "Wow, isn't it amazing how bloody crap football really is!"
But sadly - for some reason that always eludes me - I know that day will never come.
And as for Rooney - enough said. Churlish mollycoddled plonker would be a polite way to describe him. But I think in truth it's just another self-interested sportsman who is so ridiculously overpaid that nothing else really matters, certainly not the near unaffordable travel expenses that the England fans have laid down to get there.

| The myth that the world cup is the pinnacle of football is one that needs to be put to bed asap. The standard in the Premiership and Champions League is far higher and a lot of players in the world cup wouldn't get anywhere near the Premiership or top European leagues. Likewise, the English national side is average at best.
As for Rooney's comments: misguided though they were, I can understand his frustrations. He knows as well as anyone that it's not going well, and the last thing the team need is their own 'fans' turning on them. He'll probably be forced to apologise but it makes a change from the sanitised quotes we often have to put up with.
Does anyone think the Wigan players booed during the Hudderfield debacle a season or two ago weren't thinking exactly the same thing? It's easy enough to have a go at Rooney, labelling him as a cosseted multi millionaire, but no-one puts more effort on the field in than he does, and having met him in person I found him to be as unassuming a bloke as you could ever wish to meet. No doubt he will become the latest in a long line of England scapegoats once the national media have had their say though.

| I don't like football but as soon as the World Cup is on I turn into one, can't help it, call it national pride.
That last night was garbage, Emile Heskey? It's akin to playing Ricky Bibey alongside Burgess and saying he brings the best out of the players around him........yes, the opposition.

Emile Heskey spent an hour last night tripping over the ball, giving away possession and generally falling over. How this lad is playing for our National team is beyond me.

| I'm watching the RU on Sky and although it's not as good as RL it's still light years in front of football IMO.
Even if you don't like the game itself many of the players deserve a level of respect no football player could ever get.
Why is football so popular

its because its a bit like masturbating you only need one dick and a ball and anyone can have a go...
thats how Heskey started out.......i mean he tried a step over last night that was quite frankly embarrasing it was like watching my dad trying to moon walk......
