As for Tomkins. Bench for him on Sat.'"
The way I took it from the fans forum was:
If Noble wants a player and Lenegan says we can't afford him we don't get him.
On the flip side if Lenegan wants a player and Noble doesn't want him we don't get him.
So basically it sounds like they both have to like the player and he has to be 'affordable'.
The only issue here is what is deemed to be 'affordable' because it the moment we just seem to sign squad fillers and no one of any real world class quality. I know the squad has to have balance but for me I would sacrifice two average players such as Mathers and Coley for example to bring in a world class prop/centre/stand off.

| This is the problem that seems to be coming up with IL, everyone we sign seems to be a cheap version, on some kind of deal that benefits the club.
Yes, it has finally given us a big squad, but we now have more numbers than quality.

I do not see any way that he cannot be, well apart from the fact our coach seems hell bent against it, but in the current circumstances there really is no other option.

Where do we play him? 1, 6, or 9?
-------
In all seriousness, with Riddell lacking fitness and McIllorum banned, Sam has to come in on the bench. With the pressure on Noble as it is, O'Loughlin to 6 isn't going to help in the overall relation to what we might achieve.
Is Sam a 6 or a 7?

| If B.N. picks sam tomkins and or shaun Ainscough will he get the credit for doing so, as it seems to me he can't really win which ever choices he may make. I'm not B.N, biggest fan but if he does choose to play sam and shaun then it goes against his whole ethos of rugby league being to expansive , brave call either way for me .

| Tomkins should be left where he is for now.
Quins away is never easy and we don't want to give them extra targets to aim for than they've got already. No point either as we play Bradford next week and Leeds the following game and he isn't going to play in those.
Play him off the bench v Salford away the week after Leeds.
One or two may need a rest and that's when Tomkins should be introduced.
A good away game where we may well win and if we don't the boo boys don't travel so he won't have to put up with that on his debut.

| Quote ="Father Ted" Tomkins should be left where he is for now.'"
Our team is missing a stand-off more than anything else at this moment. He will do the job nicely.
Quote ="Father Ted"Quins away is never easy and we don't want to give them extra targets to aim for than they've got already. '"
We've already discussed this at some length on another thread. He can't play at Quins cos its tricky. You didn't think he should play against Cas cos they have a big pack (smaller than Salfords by the way), etc. Sam has been a target in every game he's played and he'll be a target in every game he plays for the remainder of his career, so should we not play him at all?
Quote ="Father Ted"No point either as we play Bradford next week and Leeds the following game and he isn't going to play in those.'"
So if we look completely clueless in attack again this week, do we just hope for the best against Leeds and Bradford? This is the game to play him in because if he can come in and organise the attack and we look like we know what we're doing then he is a must for the Bradford and Leeds games.
Quote ="Father Ted"Play him off the bench v Salford away the week after Leeds. One or two may need a rest and that's when Tomkins should be introduced. '"
Need a rest? FFS! Who would need a rest after 6 matches? They might be looking for new clubs or adjusting to a new coach but they sure as hell shouldn't need a rest. What we need is some organisation and inspiration.
Quote ="Father Ted"A good away game where we may well win and if we don't the boo boys don't travel so he won't have to put up with that on his debut. '"
There will always be some idiots who boo at matches. I understand their frustration but if they think it will motivate a team that is playing badly then they're morons. Booing an under performing team is like pouring petrol on a fire to try and extinguish it.
A coach can't select his side on whether or not they can cope with being booed off.

I would not go that far but he appears to be our best option sadly, although i would perhaps like to see J. Tomkins given a run there, he is never a centre in a million years but given our current situation i think he would shore up the defence and also offer much more going forward.
Just thinking out of the box a little.

Or, play Bailey, a man who has played centre before, in the centre & leave Joel in the back row, where he is going well.

Why not put Lockers in the Joel to LF at least Lockers is willing to off load Bailey wont then i would start Sam at 6 and Tommy at 7 then move tommy to 9 and bring Smith off the bench to 7. That might work

| Quote ="pk"in light of our recent performances ive been reading this board again on a daily basis - ive not been doing this for the last 2 or 3 seasons
think its worth for his and our sake to first of all caution against the sam tomkins hype thats taking over. do any of us realistically know he will be amazing? i hope he is, i really do but all this talk is building one hell of an expectation on the lad. he could turn out to be the next edwards or something but i just hope we dont build him up and knock him down in a luke rob/kevin brown way - both of whom were the local lad solution to our lack of creativity at times.
the other one is noble and the way fans have turned on him very quickly. i personally still thinkhe is decent enough and has done a decent job at the club as a whole. he doesnt have final say over transfer policy and this must be remembered when ripping into the ins and outs at the club. i agree aspects of our game are unacceptably poor at the minute but i struggle to see how an ellery hanley type character would do any better. if talk of losing the dressing room is proved to be correct then for the sake of the club then he should go, but tbh i am 100% laying the blame at the players door thus far. you dont really mind losing if its done with passion.'"
i thought he did.
wasnt it one of his conditions upon taking the job??
ok, he was left with a lot of millwards squad, but its mostly his now.
