Pryce for me has to be considered as a centre, not a wingman.
I am a little surprised to see Gouldings name in the frame though given it seems Pryce is not being considered, as again I would see him as an out and out centre.

| That's the Wigan Evening Post story. The only thing I believe in there is the date, and then I double check. Most of their information is lifted from here.

2. Pryce
5. Richards
If we don't give Pryce a chance now, we might as well deregister him and have a look what players are about.
If Goulding plays, its pointless, unless talk of a move to Salford is pie in the sky.

I'm not trying to be a Pryce hater but I wouldn't give him a go on the wing unless he's got a lot faster in pre-season, otherwise if Gleeson gets him in space (as he may well do, he's in good form) he'll likely get caught. For me he's a centre or looking at the size of him potentially a back rower, too slow for a winger though.

| for me drop amos to full back , ainscough to come in. Lets be honest king can out jump most wingers in SL. we just have to look after king properly . disrupt the kicker etc . will be interesting decision. that i am sure were all looking forward to seeing

| I personally would be disappointed should Ainscough not get the nod, he did enough to earn the right for first crack last year and as I understand it his performances have been good at Widnes, he also showed some much needed life when he came on the field against Wakefield in the friendly.
I would worry given the fact he has been sent out on loan that being overlooked for selection for a specialist centre would not only be a confidence blow to him but also alert other clubs and his agent to look at a move.
I appreciate the club seem at the moment to be keeping the players happy but there does come a limit on how many times a player will take rejection, and the club cannot continually manage fires without 1 or 2 getting out of control.

| If Ainscough is to get the nod and i'd be happy enough with that it's got to be on the left hand side with Richards dropping to fullback.
We can't afford to start looking like we're more worried about what they'll do to us then what we can do to them by shifting Roberts to fullback and marking Richards on the right up against King.
I'd still go for Pryce on that right wing but if it is Ainscough at least he knows Carmont very well and has had a good partnership with him before. We know Richards can do a fine job at fullback and we could let Roberts keep building that impressive partnership with Gleeson and also Joel Tomkins.

| I'm hoping Pryce is named at fullback. It will culminate all the witch-hunts of the last year into a nice, manageable thread and his lynching outside the stadium would bring an end to the matter.

| My choice would be moving one of Roberts/Richards to FB and bring Ainscough in.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Veivers goes in at FB though.

The irony being the lynch mob would miss the irony of that post!

| The one point that's slipped by here is this IMHO. Maguire certainly knows more about King than anyone... Strengths and weaknesses alike... Could be v. interesting!

Video interview with Maguire who says we've got Darrell Goulding and Shaun Ainscough who can play in the wing position when asked about Phelps replacement for this weekend.
Looks like it's between the 2.

| MaGuire has pretty much ruled out Karl Pryce and indicated that he is most likely to go with Shaun Ainscough IMO.
No mention of the injury Riddell picked up in training.
I think we might lineup like this:
Amos Roberts
Shaun Ainscough
Martin Gleeson
George Carmont
Pat Richards
Sam Tomkins
Thomas Leuluai
Stuart Fielden
Mark Riddell
Andy Coley
Harrison Hansen
Joel Tomkins
Sean O'loughlin
---------------------------------------------
Lee Mossop
Feka Paleaasina
Paul Prescott
Paul Deacon
The only final debate is who gets the captaincy. Lockers and Carmont have had a turn. I think Andy Coley might get a shot this week. I thought he was very impressive against Hull KR.

| We simply can't line Ainscough up against King if he's the lad chosen to play.
I'm not one of these that see's him as having an unfixable problem under the high ball but simply his size rules a battle with Matt King under the high ball as a no contest.
If it's Ainscough Richards has to play fullback
If it's Goulding then i'd put Roberts at fullback.

Good point, but lets be positive and consider the problems Ainscough can cause King when he has ball in hand, he's quick and elusive and King isn't the worlds best at tackling !!!

I know what you mean and being negative and worrying about what the opposition can do to you too much was something I wanted England to stay clear off in the four nations last year.
I kept saying to put Eastmond up against Inglis because he was the only player we had who could play centre and cause Inglis as many problems attacking wise as Inglis would to him. That way you can tire the player out and lessen his impact when he does have the ball.
I'd still cack myself everytime a high kick went up between Ainscough and King though
I suppose we should also consider the fact that Richards would come up against Riley if kept on the left. Who's to say he wouldn't do more damage to Riley then King would do to Ainscough.
Sod it lets be positive
