This leaves the likes of Tuson, Goulding, Marsh, Roberts (if he stays), Crosby, etc in reserve. I really think we need to give Joe Mellor and L. Tomkins a lot of game time next year. A strike centre is a must, as is a hooker (maybe one in his early 30's on a 1-2 year deal to oversee L Tomkins intro to the team).

Pomeroy is a big centre and could end up like Bailey, Delaney, Soliola being used more as second row. I would look to sign a centre with more pace.

Eh? What has his size got to do with anything? Inglis is twice his size.
He is a big lad but has genuine pace, good feet and is positionally sound in defence. Why would he end up like any of those?
Bailey had only ever played a handful of games at centre until 2006, he was always a 2nd row.
Soliola has always been a centre/back row.
Delaney has played just one game at 2nd row and I believe that had less to do with him as a player than it did to do with the fact that in that game Leeds were missing 6 forwards.
Other than centre, the only other position that I've seen Pomeroy play is on the wing.

They were just saying on the fox nrl show Last night how player contracts and wages are public knowledge over here! The top marquee players like Lockyer, Thurston, inglis and hodges are on half a million asd that's around £350 grand a season?
I doubt any sl club could pay one player of that ability enough to get him away from the nrl and all that goes with it and still have a balanced squad.
If Wigan spend a 1/4 of their cap on one player good luck to ya. but those home grown kids won't play for average wages for long. They will want a fair wage for their efforts.

Inglis would be a big one to be twice the size of Pomeroy, at least 30 stone. Just stating that a lot of big centres end up in the back row. If you look at your comments they have all played both positions centre/second row in my opinion Pomeroy would end up doing the same.

Don't be daft, you know what I meant. You said that because he's big, he'll end up in the back row. I was saying that Inglis is much bigger and has never played back row.
He's got to 27 without playing in the pack. It certainly won't happen this side of 31.
Did you see the Sharks v Dragons earlier this year? Pomeroy and Best played Gasnier and Cooper off the park.

For me world class players are the likes of Greg Inglis, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Jonathan Thurston, and Cameron Smith. When I think world class I think of guys who are the best in their position in the world, usually players who are ripping it up in the NRL and internationally. Some people seem to throw it about to the point where there are more than 50 'world class' players at any one time and the term becomes fairly meaningless.'"

So by your reckoning Wigan should go for Pomeroy or Best because the Sharks beat St George! If you want to compare Gasnier and Cooper to Pomeroy please do. I am sure that your "the Sharks beat St George" argument will win that one for you.
I have an opinion you obviously do not like Pomeroy average centre could end up in the back row. But to imply that Pomeroy and Best are anyway near the class of Gasnier and Cooper is silly to say the least.

From the posts everytime equates to one game between the Sharks and St George in bad weather this season. Considering Gasniers stint in RU those outstanding performances from Pomeroy must have stood out from seasons past. So yes it is a silly remark and not a valid point.
Pomeroy better than Gasnier!

| NO, maybe enough to beat Barrow this weekend. World class centre needed. Gasnier must be getting on and in need of some pension top up. Jamie Lyon? (that would really pi55 someone off). Cooper (Dragons), Idris (too late, Titans). Perhaps one of Brisbanes up and coming. But please no Inglis he's as consistant as Russel Crowes accent in Robin Hood.

Very good player. Not sure we need to spending big on a centre when I think the hooking role needs sorting.

I didn't say that Pomeroy is better than Gasnier, I pointed out an indisputable fact that Pomeroy blew Gasnier off the park in the match earlier this season, which shows how good he can be.
Your earlier assertion that Pomeroy will become a backrower because he's big reminds me that both Cooper and Gasnier are bigger than Pomeroy? Not seen much of either in the backrow.

| Possibly big changes needed.
NEW FB/Tomkins
Charnley NEW 3/Tomkins NEW 4 Richards
Tomkins/NEW 6 Finch
Fielden McM Prescott
Hock Tomkins/Hansen
Lockers
-------------------
Tomkins Mossop Tuson Lima
Possibly need a new 1/6, 9, 3 & 4.
Obviously Logan, Mellor are knocking on the door along with Marsh, could see how they adapt over the rest of the season then look to bring in where we need to.
Where any would I find a list of off contract SL players?

I disagree myself.
S.Tomkins
Charnley
J.Tomkins
Goulding
Richards
Finch
Leuluai
Fielden
McLlorum
Lima
Hansen
Hock
O'Loughlin
Prescott
Mossop
Farrell
Roberts
Then the likes of Tuson, Mellor, L.Tomkins, Marsh, Crosby, Davies, Hughes and co. in reserve.
If later this year we lined up against one of the top teams like above i'd expect us to challenge. So to the question "would this side challenge?"... with the squad we already have signed up for next year i'd expect us to be challenging.
Obviously though we wont line up like that. With the money from Coley, Deacon, Carmont, Gleeson, and Hoffman we would have more then enough to sign a couple of really good quality players to compliment our current playing roster.

Fact Pomeroy has played back row, I believe he will play there again and is not what I would call a class centre signing. I wrote that his signing would be similar to signing Bailey, Delaney, Soliola player who have played centre but better suited to the back row. You disagree you are entitled to but the facts are that they have played in the backrow, to base an opinion on the one game earlier this year that Bennett classed as one of the worst by the St George team in two years is disputable.
But to imply that Pomeroy is anyway as good as Gasnier is laughable. Nearly as funny as the post stating that Pomeroy has been better than Gasnier for a number of years by Pieman. Why would Gasnier or Cooper be played in the back row when they are world class centres?
