When Coley is absent we really miss his physical presence, more so than any other forward for me. He is playing the best rugby of his career for me and personally I can see him going on for another 2 seasons at least, but from our point of view its best to continue on a year by year deal at this stage of his career.'"
For me, Coley has developed into the 'enforcer' prop everyone was saying we needed.

Very much so. I never bought into the theory that an enforcer had to smack a few heads and give a way a daft penalty to be an enforcer.
An enforcing prop for me just has to really make it very uncomfortable for the opposition to play against and make them think twice when taking it forward. Some of the hits he has put in this year have been huge really energy sapping, and intimidating. He seems to have developed a real presence this year that he has not had in the past, perhaps its the confidence the new coaches have instilled in him.
You can tell when he is on the field the opposition do not like to run at him. Its a shame it is the twilight of his career as I always think he has had that potential but it has not been tapped by the coaches he has worked under.
Although there is a leap in class which I confess playing week in week out in SL he reminds me of a Steve Price type player, although I appreciate he would not have the same impact in the NRL for the standard of SL he performs a similar role.
My only gripe is the errors vs Leeds and Wire at vital moments which arguably lost us the game but hopefully he has got them out of the way now.

If Wigan can keep Fielden as well, we'll have the strongest pack in SL with Lima, Hoffman and possibly Hock on board in 2011. Together with Joel, Lockers, Hansen, Farrell and Micky Mac - and hopefully O'Carroll, Prescott and Tuson!
Can't wait for them to smash into Peacock, Bailey and Ablett - and Morley, Westwood, Anderson and co!

I agree. Typified for me by that try he scored v Huddersfield away (and also by his sin-binning 5 minutes later...)

| Rumours are growing strong around the Shire that Joel Tompkins has emerged as a serious target for the Cronulla Sharks as they look to re-structure the team under new coach Shane Flannagan...
The lad may be Wigan loyal (and under contract) but the chance of NRL, in a Sharks team that is looking to take a nice shape for next year... and the beautiful Sutherlandshire surroundings might be tempting.

You have answered the question already.... Under Contract.
I would however do the same with Joel as we did with Sam and Mossop , 5 year deal.

| Not sure he'd go to Cronulla and as already mentioned he's under contract but peversely if it is true its a good thing as it demonstrates how good some of the young players we have are if the Aussies are looking at them.
Mind you as Tricky has already said get him signed long term Mr Chairman

| What's everyone's thoughts on Will Sharp moving from Quins to Hull FC?
I know we're not in need of a winger so obviously we won't have been in the chase for him but I think he'll do a decent enough job for them.
It will still take a lot to turn FC into a top four side next year though.

| Better than Hall but not by much. Pretty underwhelming signing for me, but the lad has ambition and wants to use thismove to get him into the England squad.

Very average IMO. Darrell Goulding out paced him with considerable ease when we played Harlequins away this season.

Whose Joel Tompkins?
On a serious note, I am not concerned about Joel Tomkins possibly moving to the NRL. I can believe there is interest in him, but I don't believe he would consider leaving Wigan after establishing himself as not only a first team player, but a part of the leadership group and a cert for the England RL side.
But as others have said, I would happily sign him up for five years.

Joel wouldn't want to take a backward step and join an ex-club of Trent Barrett, or meet up with both the Tim Smith's he knew last year..............

He won't leave whilst Madge is here but once Madge leaves for Aus don't be shocked if he talks guys like Joel and Sam into coming with him. ATEOTD he'd be stupid not to at least try it wouldn't he.
Lets face it if Wigan keep improving at our current rate under Madge he'll defo get an NRL head coaches gig. He's already shown with Finch, Lima & Hoffman that he likes to sign players he's worked with in the past and if he moves to one of the bottom basement clubs he's gonna be looking for guys he can build a team around and trust.

He could try all he wants, but if they're down on five year deals an NRL club would have to cough up some hefty cash for us to release either Tomkins. It's not something that concerns me in the slightest TBH.
