Well said. That is all this thread was about in the first place! The people who have dragged it out and are also complaining about dragging it out are the ones trying to justify the use of bad language simply because everyone else does it! I am not naive enough to think that we can stamp out bad langauge from society or shield our kids from it. To get back to the central issue of this thread, the issue is a few hundred rugby supporters choosing to deliberately sing a song with bad language when they have been expressly requested not to by the stewards and the stadium. This thread is not about any individual cases of swearing that goes on.

So in summary, why not use the words as Rogues Gallery proposes? As written that is a superb chant in the true RL banter mould which is no less effective for removing the bad language. That way everyone is happy unless there are people who still insist on choosing to ignore the stadium rules.

The tannoy says at every match no foul language - follow the rules or don't go to the game.

That's not what I intended to do and I apologise if that's how it's come across. My point was about bad language. I was saying that just because it's a sport, does that make it acceptable and if so, then any swearing from anyone, whilst at a game is acceptable, or something like that.

If he's standing in front of the fans with all his team mates singing songs at the top of his voice then I'd expect him to get a heavy fine. Wouldn't you?

Not really. The issue that's being raised is a large group of fans singing songs containing foul language. People are aware that swearing goes on and as far as I can see there aren't too many complaints about people swearing in the heat of the moment.

Well I'm pretty sure using offensive or obscene language is proscribed within the laws of the game and a player would certainly come up for some stick if, for example, he used a rude gesture on camera during a Challenge Cup final. I can't actually fathom why anyone would come out (page after page) and say we SHOULDN'T discourage that sort of thing.

industrial language can , and will be heard in lots of situations we encounter in our every day lives and no matter how much we want to try and protect the kids precious hearing its going to happen , allways has , allways will .

its a song thats sung occasionally , surely people have more important things to worry about ? , if you was sat behind somebody and they are giving it the beef every other word , then yes you are within your rights to say something i suppose , but lets have some perspective here

I haven't commented on this yet as have experienced both sides of the situation, using the words in a song can lead to other consequences if it gets out of hand. A couple of years ago at an away game and there were 3 youths about (18-20yrs old) the songs were sung and the odd tasty word was used in context with the verses. After the singing those same youths continued to use F and C words in general rants at the ref, other fans and opposition players. I had my daughter and partner with me and asked kindly if they could tone it down a little, I received tirade of foul mouthed abuse as the reply. I asked once more and as one of them stepped threateningly forward into me I slammed my open hand upwardly under his jaw. He sagged like a sack of spuds and his so called friends left him on the floor as they disappeared. I was not proud of my actions and my partner was shocked by them as she had never seen me swear or lose my temper. ( it was a reflex action due to my armed forces training). I immediately sat him up and then went to the stewards to get him assistance, since that day I have not taken my daughter or partner to a game as I do not wish to put them in a threatening position again. This scenario led on from youths thinking it was okay to use abusive language without consideration for others.....

Yes lets have some perspective here. This thread is not about the occasional use of bad language. It is about organised chanting that causes offence to many people and at the last two home games has led to stewards being obliged to approach a section of the crowd to ask for restraint. There was also a general reminder about the use of bad language in the stadium issued by the stadium over the tannoy. I can only conclude that you are somebody who condones the behaviour and chooses to ignore the stadium rules yourself.

all the people complaning about a WORD in a SONG really need to have a very clear conscience regarding ANY organisations rules they are involved with

examples.......

company car drivers , ever fiddled your mileage claim ? thats tax fraud

ever lifted a bit of stationry from the office? , theft

put the extra hour down on the over time sheet? , falsefying documentation

etc etc etc

lighten up people , you will live longer

I don't think people are quite getting it. nohalfbacks' is a saint and has never broken any rule ever, hence why we all need to look up to him and take a leaf out of his book.

I could have sworn I hadn't read any posts saying it was genocide, but I'll take your word that I missed it. Personally I'm just voicing my preference for a family friendly atmosphere for taking my family to rugby. Shock horror! Perhaps if voicing this opinion gets some posters so worked up that they try to belittle others by calling them "precious" and "delicates" and the like then they might be the ones who need to chill.

Great post I entirely agree. I stopped going to watch Everton because the language was constant and vile. Would all these people prefer a stadium full of well behaved families or 2000 thugs?

There are loads of songs sung at Wigan with swearing and most people don't bat an eyelid because they're established over many years of being sung. Worse things happen at sea.

You'll find that violence isn't allowed in the stadium so you should have been thrown out.

Whichever way you want to look at it. It's not BIG and it's not CLEVER. Like the Gelling chant, it was funny for about 1 minute, after that it became embarrassing.

and it could be sung anywhere.

Can you not see it's obviously alienating fans at the moment.
If it was sung as I have proposed I think it it would unite fans.
