This is not good at all. Conspiracy theories and allegations about games being fixed are inevitable unless the decision making process is transparent. The RL must get this out into the open and quickly, otherwise people will inevitably conclude that the game is crooked.

I'm pretty sure players have cottoned on that if they feel they've been fouled, and the ref appears not to have spotted it, they go/stay down, so play is stopped long enough for the VR to take a look.

I hate the thought of conspiracy theories and agendas but I have heard too much first hand not to believe it.
I have honestly walked out of big games heartbroken, not because we have lost but because of the way it would seem to be manipulated so the powers at red hall get their own teams pushed forward and keep Wigan ( and others) down.

You feel let down and there is nothing to be done about it as any letter sent to rfl or Cummings gets thoroughly ignored.

But who are we, we only pay for the game.

Our only hope is transparency from the rfl. Instead, they have changed the referees radios to a scrambled digital signal to try and hide what is going on.
I don't mean to bring everyone down with this, it's just how it is.

Not wishing to doubt you CaptDan but how did you listen if it was a digital scrambled radio?

When sky are in town, they use the system to fold it into the video ref and tv sound. If you tune in, you hear the ref, touch judges and video ref on open intercom.

When the digital scrambler is used, it is relatively simple to unscramble as there are only half a dozen or so scrambler formats. So a decent decoding scanner can pick up the signal and decode it.

What scanner do you use?

Also, can you listen in to the Wigan coaching team?

For the most I use a bearcat 2500. It has a wonderful little feature on it called close call. If a radio transmits within range it auto tunes to the frequency so that you can listen to stewards, medics etc.

You can often listen to the opposing team radios which can be quite useful

You're getting desperate when you start making false statements. I said I was not aware of any that have gone unpunished. You said there were lots. You can't name a single one.



As you are probably a Lancastrian I would laugh at the lack of impact. If it was just a bit of handbags, assuming I am the ref, I would probably give you a verbal warning, there is no need to put it on report unless the officials didn't get a proper view, as it can be reviewed later. If it is a serious attack where I cannot defend myself you would be off. Similarly if you ran in & ted me when I was not expecting it, like Mossop who then ran away, you would be off. If you want consistency presumably every compulsory sending off then should receivve the same punishment, you know for consistency?

Well I guess he would be unable to inform the ref. If there is a qualified official observing in a formal capacity who sees incidents such as this I do not have a problem with him notifying the ref. I am pretty sure that, for instance, if Tomkins was laid out in the act of scoring & it was missed by the ref, a huge number would be screaming more pathetic paranoia if the VR, or other official, failed to mention it to the ref. I have said elsewhere, i would not necessarily be against a system like Aussie Rules where no-one is sent off & it is all reviewed afterwards. As long as everyone accepted it.

1.Yes, but this should be made clear from the RFL that this is the case so that everyone is aware that this is the case, the main complaint I see on this thread is that the RFL deny this happens or try to cover up this happens. This also leave open the question as to what other advice the VR is passing on during the game. The entire VR/Ref system is falling into disrepute because of this. Clarity would go a long way to removing a lot of suspicion.

2.If the VR is going to act in the way you suggest (yes, I know it happens already but that is officially not the case) then the VR must be seen to be above suspicion and be unbiased - Ganson is a known Saint Helens supporter (and I am sure other refs have their own favoured teams) - so the RFL must ensure that, again to prevent accusations of bias, that the VR is totally neutral.

I do not personally think there is a cover up or some kind of plot to keep some teams down (I do not think the RFL have the wit for that) - but the lack of clarity in the ref/vr system does lead to a perception that this is the case.

Now I don't think it is disgraceful. I think this is exactly what a VR should do. Let play move on and let him look at it. If it's a penalty then pull play back.

I do think we need clarification on it though. As far as I was aware the above use of the VR has never been made public.

Its use has been denied in public.
