Agreed.
The two last year were both fantastic games and great adverts for Rugby League in general.
More of the same please.

| Quote ="MadDogg"I'm over the moon with how things are going with crowd figures - the sales and marketing team really have done a sensational job over the last few years. Everyone knew the potential was there, it was simply about realising it. Around 2000-2002, people seemed to have fallen out of love with the club and struggled with the idea of Wigan having a new home after Central Park.
'"
The big drop was before that really, and before we moved from CP - I think the switch to summer rugby, coupled with our falling performances, had more to do with it. We dropped from 14k+ in '94-95 to only 8k+ in '97.
There's a graph somewhere (might be on Bilko's site?) that shows it very dramatically.

| 21486 is the current total (assuming Wire sell their North stand allocation which is a fair assumption). Good weather today and building anticipation of a big game should see further sales right up to kick-off. This is heading for >22k easily, and possibly >23k. People are buying tickets as I post. For the first ever I have encountered a slow response to the Wigan online ticketing system which states that the response is slow due to the number of people using it and hence puts you in a queue.
This should be a great game whatever the result and with a big and vocal crowd all seen on Sky this should be a certain winner for RL. Bring it on!

22,701.
Pushing it to beat that.
Wire are bringing more fans but that marketing campaign is more directed at the home fans so the Wigan ends were pretty full.
This proves why perhaps the wire game shouldn't be chosen as the big one. This is the third 20k plus crowd since 2007. If both teams are playing well it draws a big crowd.

The first thousand tickets in each stand were all a tenner, so they gave the same offer to the away fans which is only fair IMO.
We could be looking at 4 maybe even 5 20k + crowds this season! Would be astonishing and unheard of in RL in Europe.

and yet, according to a contingent on here, its only wire fans who see this as a big game.
Wigan ticket sales would suggest otherwise.......

| Wire have had a bit of a rush on by the sounds of it and have now got to a pretty decent figure, albeit not quite selling out the North (yet).

You're only coming to see the champions
I have never pretended it isn't a big game, only joked aboout it. It is a local derby which has come into it's own over the last few years and it will only get bigger, it is very healthy for both clubs. Lets be honest the game later in the year at the HJ is sure to sell-out, I personally will be rushing to get tickets so I don't miss out.
As it stands though there is over 16k home fans bought tickets. This happens for quite a few games. Don't go thinking you are all special all of a sudden
I can't wait for this though, no matter how important a game against Quins, Wakey or Catalans might be at home, I just can't get up for them as much. The great away support from wire makes for a big game which we don't see every week.

It's mainly the away support that's boosting the total (and well done to your lot for that!). We had about 14k home fans for the Hull game, there will only be about 2 or 3k more for tonight, with a guesstimate of 6k Wire fans in the North & East combined.

| Now 21645 however this doesn't include the several hundred seats in the West Stand executive seats. So not far off 22k now.

Ahhh but E-ticketing does not take into account the unreserved seating in the South stand. Maybe not quite accurate
Either way I am happy now that it is over 20k, we are the only club that can draw these figures for more than just one game. Fairplay Leeds, Hull and Bradford have all done it but this is already our second this season and we will get more than 20k against saints, also for the 'big one' probably against Leeds, and then if we improve the attendance for the quins game maybe we could have a 5th 20k + attendance.
Main thing for me is we didn't win any of those games last season infront of big crowds.... we need to win to keep the part time fans in. I have no doubt this game would have sold out had we also won the WCC.

Why would you guess at about 6k Wire fans? At this moment they havent sold out the North approx 4300 and they have probably been given the first section in the East approx 500, they probably havent sold many of them at all. They wont have 5k, but thats still a fantastic effort, well done Wire

| There's a very big bandwagon at Wire. A lot of the lads I know hardly ever go a home game but go Wigan away every year for the p!ss up.
Should be a cracking game and atmosphere!
