| My first thought was lazy dive and caught him Yellow. But after watching it again he made contact direct with the head and thats a RED. My other thought was god Coley is back to his old ways again he has never had a good tackling technique and all to frequently gives away penalty's.
On a slightly different point did anyone notice the amount of times the Catalan players were kneeling on the backs of our players legs when getting up from the tackle. Not sure hoe legal it is maybe Jonh might know i have not noticed it done by other teams but could just be something i have been missing before.

I guess that’s the fundamental point of all this. I don’t agree that the shot was as bad as some were making out BUT IF Child has decided to follow the letter of the law and said contact with the head = a straight red then I want to see this for ALL head high shots in the comp.
It’s a number of issues which have me strongly thinking there is an anti Wigan agenda out there. The refs only seem to be following the letter of the law and issuing cards when it’s a Wigan player committing an offence. Perfect example was Farrell’s yellow vs Leeds. I can’t remember the last time there was a yellow for this offence before the Leeds game and there hasn’t been one after it either but yet the same offence has occurred a few times.
You can almost guarantee next week there will be a high shot and a red card won’t be given.

Much worse than Coley's infringement.

But not according to the RFL.
www.therfl.co.uk/about/disciplin ... hp?id=2067
www.therfl.co.uk/about/disciplin ... hp?id=2059
Seriously, get this, this HAS to be some kind of joke...
Scott Moore's report:
"Player makes initial contact with back of opponent, lazy attempt, not malicious, penalty sufficient"
The man JUMPED into the air, SWUNG his arm at a player running TOWARDS him. Apparently that's lazy, not malicious and contacts with the back of the opponent...
I've got two words... PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Moores was no where near as bad as Coleys. The only problem i have with constancy is any late challenge on a Kicker should be yellow and penalty and the same should apply to a late tackle on a player well after he has passed the ball.
Coley will get 2 games due to his record of high tackles. I would like to see the club implement a fine system for players giving away penalty's. Also for Yellow and Red cards maybe something like £10 for every penalty given away £100 for every Yellow card they got and £300 for every Red card they got. And maybe the fines going to the clubs chosen charity.

Coley's wasn't that bad ffs.
The penalty fine system is a stupid idea imo. Most of the penalties given against Wigan are for lying on which is a game plan the coaches set out for the players. Others such as offside are the players trying to push the rules and 9/10 they get away with it. I’m sure Madge is perfectly happy with the number of penalties we give away because we play to the limit of the rules and for everyone we give away four or five don’t get pulled up on.
Is it frustrating yes but a lot of it is down to the refs being pedantic as well.

Coleys was not that bad Good god what do you see as bad taking his head off. He launched himself into a head high shot look at it in slow mo you can see the intent and he knew what he had done right away.
If that had been any other teams prop on say Farrel you would be calling for a 10 match ban. It was a bad one there is no doubt.
The fines for penalty's would be implemented after a match review and its things like not standing square and being told to stay out then not doing, Lifting a players foot after the tackle just to delay things a little more. Not playing the ball correctly something they are clamping down on but thats just my way of thinking.

It wasn't intentional tho. It wasn’t a malice tackle and you could tell Coley realised he’d made a mistake and got the timings all wrong.
It’s an accident and these things occasionally happen.

That’s pure BS. There was no intent from Coley in that tackle. He goes for the big hit and messes it up simple as.
As for the 10 match ban bull I seriously wouldn’t be just as I wasn’t calling for Peacock to have a ten match ban when he wacked Sam.
It’s RUGBY FFS deal with it like they did in the last origin match. Have a bit of biff over it and let it calm down and play on with a penalty.

| I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I think it was the video ref sent Coley off. Childs was obviously in conversation with him, continually nodding and saying yes before showing the red card.
Can refs go to the video ref (officially) or is it like the sacred forward pass?

Show contrition, missed timed etc apologise and come away with a one match ban rather than two, so he's back for the Dire game.

I agree but that's irrelevant. The French guy who took Myler's head off in the international earlier in the year even stayed on the field to make sure Myler was ok but it didn't stop it being a straight red. The fact that it wasn't malicious will hopefully see him get a 1 match ban.

| I thought it was a straight yellow card myself.
Saying that, it was one of those that COULD warrant a red card - If the referee has the gonads to do it.
Had that been a Catalans player, I reckon it would have been yellow - But maybe I'm just biased.

I thought that when i watched it.
It was greeted with a "FFS Bentham" by my whole living room.
Red Card no more.
Mind you i wonder if Elima will get brought up after all the kicking out in the tackle / rubbing his Elbow in Sam T's Face and general misbehaving?

I realise that but it's the one of the frustrating parts of the whole thing.
It was an accidental high shot and should have just been a penalty. We don’t want to see RL fall into a spiral were the littlest things results in a card as overzealous people want go OTT about what actually happened. Deacon was hit late yesterday but I don’t want to see a card for that just a penalty.
Red cards should only, imo, be given for stuff like gouging, biting, trips or stuff like what Tezza did. Stuff like that have no place in the game. Accidents like Coley’s or lazy play like Peacock on Sam should be a penalty and maybe a bit of biff after. I don’t want to see games ruined by refs sending people off for stuff like that.
The best games for me are the ones were the players deal with it themselves. A perfect example is Fielden getting laid out by Mason in the test and JP stepping up and dishing some biff out or the Origin game a few weeks back. It was bad what they did but it adds spice to the game.

Yep Grade B - if found guilty it's 1 or 2 games.
EDIT - They are "guidelines", so could get off without a ban if found guilty, but showed remorse, apologised etc. Ex-Wigan player on panel tomorrow (G Fairburn).
