It seems like an excellent acquisition especially in exchange for a Richie Mathers. I do feel sorry for Richie as it has not worked out for him here. Lets just hope Martin can produce the kind of great form which we know he can do.

Gleeson will add a few to the gate for Thursday IMO, so he will in effect have cost a fair bit less than £100K.

Puzzles me as well. Surely we did not pay Mathers a comparable wage to Gleeson?

Perhaps there are some players to be loaned out but such deals must be in place before a team is allowed to register a new player because Gleeson's wage is added to the cap right away and if we have not got the money freed up off the cap the RFL would not register him for us.

if we've loaned some players their wages are often paid or partially paid for by the club they are loaned to. This could help as well as mather's wage, which i know won't be as much as gleeson's but it'll be a hefty part of it.

Maybe just maybe playing for the club he loves and grown up supporting resulted in him accepting a pay cut. you never know.

I think this signing will also improve us defencively down that side as Gleeson has good positioning and lost of experience at centre which Bailey doesnt have, although he is a good defender.

For your sake I hope you get the player formerly known ( in Saints and GB days ) as Martin Gleeson. He has been nothing more than a workmanlike centre for us for the vast majority of games he's played in the last three years, so we can do without him. Mathers has not been signed as a replacement for Gleeson, and only a fool would suggest otherwise. Mathers has had the same problem playing for you as Gleeson had playing for us - never recapturing his best form. We're short of a full-back so we'll take the £100k, a spare No 1 and start looking for a new centre.

You might find that some organisation might take that 100k off you straight away
