All players I would say are better than Gleeson in SL only. Off the top of my head.

The RFL has announced a number of operational rule changes for the Carnegie Challenge Cup which will come into force for the 2009 competition.

There will now be no deadline for teams to register players for the Carnegie Challenge Cup prior to the Quarter Finals stage. Up to and including Round 5 of the competition players correctly registered for their club will be eligible to play cup fixtures.

Players can still be Cup tied in that a player cannot play for more than one member club or more than one non member club in the competition. Players who have played for a non member club in the early rounds of the competition remain eligible to sign for a member club and play for that club in later rounds.

From the Quarter Finals onwards only players registered before Monday 25 May will be able to play in the latter stages of the competition.

Meanwhile, any competing club found to have fielded an ineligible player at any stage of the competition will be disqualified, unless a club can prove no fault or negligence on their part.

For the avoidance of doubt any club disqualified from the competition for fielding an ineligible player will be replaced by its most recent cup opponent - irrespective of the result of that match - even if the offence was committed in an earlier round.

Not a chance that any of those in bold are better then Gleeson especially Sykes which is just a laughable claim.

If Gleeson found top gear he's be better then any of the above bar maybe Gidley(although he is getting on).

I agree that Gleeson can be better than all of those centres you suggest but when was the last time you can remember him hitting top form?

Since he left Saints i've only seen him for Wire on the telly or against Saints & he has not set the game alight very often at all - though his talent is doubtless he just isn't getting things right.

He could be a belting buy for Wigan if you give him the service he needs and space in which to work which is what he got at Saints and has suffered from a lack of at Warrington

He's playing for Dire though isn't he? If you surround a brilliant player with rubbish then he'll also look rubbish. That's the reason that so many NRL players coming here don't set it alight like they did over there because the other players aren't as good as the NRL teammates he would have had. That and the game is different but yeah you see my point.

Gleeson is the best english centre and the 2nd best in SL after Gidley will be a very good signing for you lot. Youwill be a threat down both sides if you get him whih will realease Carmont and Ainy a bit more ause at the mo the opp are jus stacking that side

Are you having a laugh? Gidley is twice the player of Gleeson and is a player I would have at Wigan any day, Gleeson I really am not that fussed about.

are you sure you watch wire games and you still think gleeson is world class now here is a shock wigan selling centre of the future from own acadamy another noble quick fix

There's no doubt that Gleeson is a classy centre. He is a natural centre who can claim to be one of the very few GB players who is approaching world class.

Sadly for him, those tend to be fleeting moments in his career.


Solid but not spectacular.

When Gleeson is fired up he's a very good player and he's proved that in an England shirt imo. He's had some great games for the national side and caused the Aussies and Kiwi's plenty of problems.

He'd be a good signing for us but will it happen?

I'd still doubt it.
