| That Wigan kicked none at all is most suprising given we had Trent last season.

| If memory serves, Andy Farrell was one of the first British players to kick one. I may be wrong here, but I seem to recall it was in a Friday night match against Hull, our first home game that year. He kicked it at the end of our first set of six - and I remember thinking 'this new rule is going to be meat and drink to Faz'. And then he didn't kick another one until some time the next season.
Or maybe my memory's playing drinks. Have drunk a lot of beer since then.

| its a lil harder to hit a 40/20 at the jjb, its a whole lot bigger than the other grounds, and i suppose when you play away you dont feel as confident, but that said have lulu smith or even tomkins got a kick big enough to reach with the distance

| the 40/20 is a fantasic rule and im at a loss as to why we dont go for it more often. wether its down to poor field position or inadequate kickers im not sure but the following should be able to make the distance:
Richards
Leuluai
O'Loughlin
Smith
Tomkins
maybe more practice is needed?

Why? How many times were you bogged down deep in your own half.
Perhaps your forwards laid a good enough platform to reach the half way line on most occassions, and in which case the potential for a 40/20 is greatly reduced, unless you run the risk by passing back very deep in order to kick.

| Surely Pat should be able to kick those from our own 10? But seriously - 40/20 should be so simple for him with a bit of practice, especially if he stays at full back. I mean, look how he took to goal kicking.. it could be his speciality

| Wigan's bad positioning made it look so simple on Friday night.
What should have happened was one of the wingers should have been looking to drop back to help Pat out.
When there are two people back in their correct position then a 40/20 is not a simple kick to pull off.

| that is true its not very often wigan are behind the 40 yard line on the last or even fourth tackle to be honest, when i used to play we had a game plan, we would play to the 40 and then go for a 40 20 but i didnt really see the point in that

Can't someone have a word with Bill, we could interchange him regularly so he doesn't get knackered ?

| IMO Richards would be better advised trying to stop 40/20s than create them. The way he loped about the pitch, especially for the first 40/20, on Friday was pathetic and the kind of display that would have seen numerous negative posts if Mathers had been equally useless at preventing them. Still, to some on here certain players shall always remain bullet proof.

tell our esteemed coach that! richards has one of the 'biggest' boots in RL but for some reason doesnt use it except for dropouts and goalkicking. fair enough he may not be considered a 'playmaker' when it comes to kicks in general play but it should be a piece of cake for him.
get it sorted nob[size=59le[/size

| One thing that Rugby Union can do well is positional kicking by the backs; the wingers and full back have to be capable of receiving a ball and kick the ball back a significant distance while ensuring the ball bounces before it goes into touch (same principal as a 40/20).
While no-one wants to see the kick-tennis Union can provide, I fail to see why our kicking coaches don't work on the positional kick (40/20) with a view to using it once or twice in a game, not in a season.

So your alternative is? They were very good play and it is just as much the wingers faults as well! And you cant exactly go around saying we should replace them when Ainscough is still learning and Amos is a work in progress to fill in.
