| He's won a Challange cup with a Warrington, is his first full competition.
Lets judge him on the league after he's had a full season at Warrington, not to mention a pre-season.
He might just take Warrington to the very top.

| Smith came in after 5 games didn't he?
So he will have been in charge 22 out of 27.
His record to date is 11 wins and 9 defeats.
Is that a good performance and record?

| Quote ="inside_man"but if you've got a squad good enough to win the CC, why aren't you already in the top 8? Probably top 4 easily with the squad you have.
You've won the cup and thats fantastic for your club, but if you had lost then you would just have been left with a shocking league performance. The winning of the cup has shown how poor you've been week in week out in the league this year, TS has shown that [like wigan in the one off games you can be a match for anyone, but [like wigan struggle to do it on a consistent basis.
Comparing the two sides this year, when Smith came in we were around the same position, you may have been slightly ahead of us i'm not too sure. We're now solidly fifth having turned the season around, and got to the semi of the cup, granted you went a step further in the cup but you've left a lot to be desired in the league.
I personally like Tony Smith, but I don't think you can say its been a good season under him. It's been a great cup run, but shocking in the league.'"
One step at a time we can go for both next season, top 8 looks abit out of reach because of injuries and the final otherwise I would think we could win the final two an sneak in the 8, dont think we was ahead of you when he came in we had lost 4 games and then lost his first at Quins, so after 5 rounds we had zero points.

The thing is nobody will remember what Warrington win-loss record was in 2009, they will remember that they won the Challenge Cup.

| Tony Smith is a great coach he left a great legacy at leeds ,he picked up on what was a potentionally a a good squad at leeds and he took them "up to the next level"ok there were times when people cribbed like the GF against the Bulls and the cc final against Hull i.e selecting an injured Senior .
He will be regarded like Roy Francis as our two modern era coaches.
just take notice of what players who played for him say about him , McGuire ,Burrow , Briers ,thats only a few.
What i like about him is when he talks about coaching is he always says he has an engish assistant coach .
he is rugby league through and through and he is now a british citizen.
all the best Smithy hope you dont get too much stick in your home town of HUDDERSFIELD

The bottom line is we arn't going to win any trophies in 2009, so why pay to ditch Noble so close to the end of his contract when we could just sit it out. Even if we finished bottom, we wouldn't be going down.'"
Are you being serious? I guess Wire should have stick with Lowes so they didn't have to pay him off. They would not have had a sniff of the final with him in charge IMO.
They would not have had a sniff of the cup without Smith IMO.
Perhaps if we had changed coach after the Celtic disaster we might have had a coach good enough to prepare the team to beat a pretty ordinary Wire side in the semi final. Noble has failed to get us beyond that stage since he has been here so WTF point was there/is there in sticking with this failure? Because it's cheap? Give me a break.

| he's a top coach and within a season he has won the CC for the Wolves and won the world cup for England.
oh, hand on, I dreamt the last bit, he did nowt with England, we got an ass whipping of the highest order in the world cup. Now he is trying to win favour by playing all the youngsters for England - playing to the crowd.
He's a decent coach but not the messiah.
But is does show the importance of going for an experienced coach with a winning mentaility. Wire under Lowes and Cullen were going to win nowt, despite how good a player they were how how ever popular they were with the fans and chairman. Anyone else see the parallels?
and thats why I dont want to see Lam as our coach, give the job to a proven experienced respected winner.

Well why have Wigan not done that. You make it seem so easy. It does not matter where you finish in the league if you do not win it.... He has won the Challenge cup in his first season at Warrington.Instead of being bitter and jealous just hold your hands up and congartulate Warrington. Personally if we do not make the top eight which looks that way at the moment I would like Wigan to do well. However if you do not win Superleague this year have you had a better year than us because you have finished higher up the table? No you have not - because we have won one of the two proper trophies available - discounting the hub cap.

Maybe Leeds should have changed their coach after being humiliated at home by Salford, or Saints after being beaten by Salford or scraping a 4 - 0 win at Celtic?

But those losses that Saint's and Leeds suffered were one off's, where as are loss to Celtic was clearly not a one off, but instead just another game dropped we should have won.

I agree the problem wasn't really the Celtic game.
it was as much the game at Hull, and at home to Cas, Wakefield, HKR and even Saints that we could and should have won.
Those 10 points would have made the Celtic game a s much a one off as the Leeds and Saints games to Salford.

Spot on, we are where we are thanks to are poor start to the season, had we played consistently throughout the season then who know's where we we may have ended up.
All we want is some consistency in are performances, yes all clubs have dips in form but the one's who recover from it the quickest reap the rewards, it would seem that for next year there will be no personnel changes within the team hopefully allowing us to have a good start to the season.

I wasn't talking about Lowes and Milward, I was comparing Noble and Milward.
Look it at from the chairman's point of view:
He could keep milward and risk us going down, meaning we need to completly re-shuffle the wages to counter the smaller cap, which could result in us paying off some players to release them. We also lose Barrett and Bailey, as well as a gate that will most likely not cover the cost of opening the stadium.
Or you fire off milward and try and keep us up.
Then theres Noble, and a squad that is loosing games not by miles but by a few points, his options are;
Pay off noble so close to the end of his contract, then potentially fork out more depend on which coach you bring in.
Or he could keep Noble and let him see out the rest of his contract, there is no relegation, so the gates won't drop as sharply if we finish bottom as they would if we where relegated. You could also say that, if the right man was brought in, then the gates may actually rise.
As for bringing a new coach in too see if he can outwit Smith in the CC, then whats wrong with seeing if Noble can outwit Smith in the CC, you say Noble has never got us further than this stage before, but at that point, Noble had only coached us in one semi final, with one more looming, it wasn't like we'd done 10 semi's with the same result.

I think a good first half of the season is needed not just the first few games.

Certainly wouldn't object if he was given the award. I think any of him, Maguire or Noble would be justifiable winners though.
Personally I can see Noble winning it.

How?
Saints and Leeds were the top 2 teams last year, who'd been there for a good few years before that, them being there wasn't a suprise. Huddersfield being in the top 4 was.
Both Wire and Wigan have come from much further down the league to dominate at the top since the start of the season, and as such both coaches have done a fantastic job. Therefore to seperate them this year I feel it would be who came down to winning it.
Quote ="JTR"Pretty sure the award is given out the week before the final, along with all the others.'"
Didn't realise that, in which case it will probably go to Smith as he's already got the challenge cup.
