He’s been a ‘pro rugby player’ since leaving school and never had to deal with the other stuff people with regular jobs have to learn sharpish. In the rugby world he could some times rest on his laurels as he had the talent to make it up but looking at him his only talent is rugby probably. He’s going to come down to earth with a massive shock

Hopefully this will do him good as not only will he see what he’s lost but he’s now going to have to start thinking about a career out of rugby much earlier than what he would have had to do. Maybe he can use this time to not only train the house down but also gain some qualifications or get a skill because with the money he’s on what ever career he decides to take he may be able to get others in around him to be the boss or run his own place.

Yeah mate i thought about the wording of Reardon as a bit part player when i put it but you know what i mean. He sort of had become that because of injuries and Wire were more then happy to free up his cap space.

They wouldn't have done that if Morley had done the same thing and we all know that. We only need to look at Saints with Pryce(and before anyone starts Saints had no reason to sack Pryce imo).

Hock is as thick as 2 short planks and has probably missed the guidance of players like Farrell and Radlinski more then anybody else. He's made big big mistakes and should be punished but also should be given a 2nd chance imo if he makes some promises to the Wigan club.

The guy has allegedly taken drugs. He has not murdered anyone.


If he is guilty he will have to take the punishment. After that as far as I am concerned he could come back into the Wigan team with no questions asked, and no explanation necessary.


The question is can he do it? Will he want to?

I am effin angry at Gaz Hock for throwing away a very bright career not to mention pretty gutted that I won’t be able to watch him breaking the line week in week out.

However

The thing is, let’s be honest there are people playing in the SL who have done far worse things than the odd line or two. Whilst I agree a two year ban should be delivered if found guilty, for me people like Ben Cockyane deserve a greater punishment for their own particular offence.

It is indicative of the UK mentality to punish a drug user more severely than someone who has caused physical harm to another human.

Hock should be kept on at the club in some capacity, you cannot throw someone to the curb when he has not harmed anyone but himself. He will then have a chance to repay the people he has let down by fulfilling a community role before playing for us after his ban on a much reduced contract.
I would like to think that he feels pretty crap at the moment, but he isn’t a bad lad.

I think to take him back as a player the club would be asking a lot of questions and seeking a lot of assurances. They would be stupid not to.



No idea but I think what people are forgetting when discussing the possibility of him rejoining the team in two years is - the rest of the team! In two years time we will have hopefully seen the progression of some of the young forwards people rave about. If we have, why should they stand aside for Hock?

He will be after all have been a player who was banned for two years for doing Cocaine whereas these lads will have spent those two years establishing themselves in the 1st team. I don't quite see them having to possibly move aside for him as sending the right message.

Whether sending the right message is an issue or not one thing is for sure and that is the team will have moved on and so he may well find himself in a position where Wigan would rather put any wage he would get (however small he could then command) towards other players.

I think you're right.

Sadly, my personal view is that Hock is very possibly finished. The way SL seems to move on in leaps and bounds these days could see him left too far behind. Not only will be be two years older, he'll be two years more inexperienced, and, unless he's very disciplined with his fitness, two years behind the rest of the team physically.

I think Wigan should do what they can, legally of course, to keep him onside. But in truth it's difficult to see how they give him any firm guarantees about what may happen in two years' time.

Let's hope this example is not lost on other players who may indulge in nose whiskey. Gareth has basically ruined a very, very promising career.
