Wire played good possesion rugby and defended extreemely well, very impresive. Saying that, Saints were absoulutely awful, Wellens looks a spent force now and on the verge of retirement, you cant play full back in the modern game and be that slow.

Can't see why you criticise Wello, he had a decent game and he does his defending role as good as any in the game. Speed would only get him an extra 5 metres on the first tackle.

I thought Wellens made a couple of certain try-saving interventions. Without him at the back, I reckon Saints would have been thoroughly embarrassed.

That said, he's starting to look a bit like Wilkin - had a great rep in a team that was being led from the front by the likes of Long, Cunningham, Ridley and Sculthorpe. But now the big boys have gone, he looks a lot less of a superstar.

Wellens really does look like he is on his last legs, this should be his last season.

I debated long and had with a mate of mine that the loss of Cunningham would hit Saints harder than Sculthorpe or Long as he provided the drive that got Saints across the line in games they shouldn't have won. Whilst the argument could be had Cunningham's departure has compounded the earlier departures, Saints still had direction and drive with Cunningham in the side, something they appear to be lacking.

Graham has the determination, like Cunningham, to push Saints he doesn't have the craft to go with it.
