| Quote ="Coventry Warrior!"I would of had Webb 2 or 3 seasons ago but not anymore, we need as someone as already said an 'enforcer' prop. But if we did get him I wouldnt complain, still a very good player, with plenty of experience and doesnt take cr@p from anyone.'"
Despite being a decent player (better than half the props we have now) I don't think he'd be a good buy for us.
I agree an enforcer is needed. I.e Jamie Peacock, both Morley and Carvell enforced themselves very well for Wire last Friday night.
Look at it this way (how I'd work the props)
4 props-2 start, 2 on the bench, An enforcer, 2 impact and a younger prop to learn from the enforcer.
-Start with you're main enforcer prop and an impact prop.
i.e Nathan Cayless (if we had him) and another impact prop for example Moi Moi.
Moi Moi's job is the batter the defensive line for 20mins as hard as he can hurting the line making big yards. He can go at it at 100mph cos he knows all he has to do is 20mins.
The enforcer also makes the hard yards, get through a bulk of tackling and makes his presence felt for around 30-35mins. A mean leader with a good workrate.
After 20mins take off the first impact i.e, Moi Moi and replace him with the second impact from the bench, i.e Feka to do exactly the same job for the next 20 till half time. I suggest the second impact to be the stronger of the two impact props as he'll be on as the enforcer is rested after 30-35 mins.
For the remaining 10-5 mins of the first half bring on a younger prop i.e Prescott) someone who has been watching the enforcer set the tone and knows he had to match him when on the field. Overtime the young prop will eventually replace the enforcer prop.
At the start of the second half the young prop and the 1st enforcer prop Moi Moi take the field, the 1st to play for the first 20mins of the game then be subbed for the 2nd enforcer who will see out the game from 60mins to FT. Remember the second enforcer prop is the prop we consider to be the best of the two impact props to finish the game on a high.
Around the 60-65 min mark bring off the younger prop (Prescott) and replace him with your enforcer, then for the last 15-20mins of the game you have your best two props on the field both who have recently been rested so they can help lead the team to victory.
For me we need another good impact prop or use O Carroll and an enforcer prop. The younger prop could be Prescott.

not doubting what youve been told mate but it would take a lot of £££'s to get JT over here and i just dont see us doing another fielden (or at least i hope not)

Also, why would he give up on his International and Origin career?
Even in the days when Wigan were the biggest club in the world, and had stacks of money to spend with no salay cap to impede it, we didn't get Aussies of Thurstan's calibre. All our major signings then were British or New Zealanders. Not playing for Aus is a big issue.

for him to do that it would come down to money which was part of the point of my previous post. also, would we want a player whos just here for the money?
i realise i could be doing thurston a great dis-service and he may genuinly have a desire to play in SL for Wigan but i think thats just too far fetched

That's what makes sense. It doesn't make sense for JT to come to the UK, I think he's doing what many Aussies have before which is talk up a move to the UK to bump up his current salary.
Arguably rated as the best 7 in the world, not a chance of him coming.

only time will tell but I.L. has gone out there to look for a world class half and a prop and both will cost good money. Maybe Thurston wants to try his hand over here and knows that Superleague clubs are no longer bringing over players at the end of there careers and feels this is a good time to make a move. After all he could come over here for 2 years then still go back and play rep footie again.

Not having setanta should not be a problem.
Anyhow, his form is hit and miss. Still have O'Mealy over Webb.

Thurston will not be coming to Wigan. He will flirt with the idea in order to command a higher NRL contract.

Exactly.
There is zero chance of Thurston ending up at Wigan or any other superleague club for that matter.
It's encouraging if people are hearing rumours of us at least being in for decent players but i'd expect somebody like Orford over a player of Thurstons standards.

Dont let that get in the way of a good story though. You have more chance of finding rocking horse crap than Thurston coming over here

| Say if we do sign O'Mealey/Webb and Orford
Would we have enough money under the cap?
Who would have to leave?
Remember Tomkins and Ainscough will most likely get improved contracts.

Bailey will be on a large contract, equal to one of those two i would imagine.
As for the rest, Phelps+Smiths wage would also be a reasonably large chunk as well i'd imagine? And what about coleys as well?

We can do better than that. Lets get rid of:
Smith
Phelps
Coley
Hansen
Riddell (work around his contract)
Bailey
Fielden (send him to the Roosters with Noble)

I think we can relax in the knowledge that, on the off-chance IL DOES sign two players of that calibre and expense, he will only do it because we CAN accommodate them under the cap. I don't say that because IL is very astute - though I feel he is - but because the live salary cap would otherwise prevent it.
