Who would you say are the deadwood players at our club currently?

Mathers, Smith, Coley, Fielden is on borrowed time considering the wage he's on and i think bailey is average at best.

Please tell me you are joking right? After all the legions of young acadamy lads you produce just trips of the tounge! In the last 20 years name me 3 players (ill make it easy) who have come through your ranks and gone onto a GB shirt!

And you should be thankfull we recruit 2nd rate ausies or you may have to produce some players!

I think the reason England/ GB never perform as well as they should is a little closer to home.......teams such as huddersfield not sufficiently investing in their own acadamies, and relying off other teams second rate acadamey cast offs to get them through ie/ robinson / aspinwall, wild, dodgy hodge etc!!

They can always go and raid someone elses club in a few years though Rogues!
Why spend your money on developing Juniors when you can pinch them from a club that produces Too Many!

And that is why there should be a rule that says any player who is from your own service area and comes through your own academy system should not be counted (or have a percentage dispensation) against the salary cap.

What a thoroughly depressing thread - its sad to see that people have lost their enthusiasm for Wigan during the current plight. For some reason though I just can't relate to it, although I am willing to criticise the club, coach, players and tactics as much as the next fan, I always thought that supporting the club was in both good and bad times. Maybe we have all been spoiled in the past and have expectations a little too high considering how times / rules have changed. Admittedly there are things that I would change at the club, but I still feel the same about the rugby - I can't wait for the games to come around and despite numerous disappointments over the last couple of years, the passion is still there - the pain of defeat and inconsistent performances doesn't get any easier. But it won't stop me following a club that have given me so many great times in the past. Yes, it can be difficult to watch 5 drives then a kick and the forward pack being dominated when comparing it with the past, but other clubs / fans have been watching dull rugby for years and their core support always remained. At least we can have a bit of optimism in the quality of youth in the reserves / academy that will be emerging in the next couple of years - it may take a new coach to get us moving back in the right direction, but I look forward to it happening in the long term. It'll be all the sweeter having experienced the last 3 / 4 years.

Anyway there is my optimistic contribution - its game day again, the sun is shining and for once I can be reasonably confident of an away win.

That just makes to much sense and it would benefit Wigan and that would never do .

Sorry mate but Paul Reilly had a season where he was top or pushing for top (behind Wellens) fullback of the season.

Any other team and he would have got a shot with GB/England, you cannot comment cos you dont watch these players every week.

Raleigh is outstanding for us week in and week out and would say on current form is performing well above the likes of Hock and O'Loughlin but can guess who will be picked for England.

Crabtree is another who week in week out delivers for us, playing better than Burgess of Bradford so in my opinion should be picked before Burgess and get a shot with England.

It's about time we picked players on form and not which club they play for, cos picking players like Sinfield, Farrell and Sculthorpe at standoff for GB rather than someone who plays that position, from one of the so called lesser clubs has not got us very far in the past has it?

He asked you a question, as far as I see it you have failed to come up with any kind of decent response, so as far as I see it, You've been put in your place!

He asked you for a list of 3! Not 33! You would think Shudds would be able to come up with 3 over the last 20 years or so wouldn't you!

Ask us to name 3 and we can probably name 33!

Ask us to name players who have played SL/Old 1st division in the last 20 years and we could probabaly name 133!

You were the one who came on here all cocky because youv'e managed to get yourself a bit too over excited about being 3rd a quarter or so through the season, I suggest you save that cockiness for a time when you actually may finish 3rd at the end of the season!

I believe we have around 8 Wigan Lads (9 if you include Hansen as he's been at Wigan since he was a kid) in our 1st 20 or so players at the club (It will actually be 9 tomoorow as Gleeson's signed!) that We have produced.

How many Huddersfeld lads have you got in your 1st 20????

I think if you look back at the previous posts it was a Hudds Fan who was lamenting Wigan for not bringing enough youngsters through and playing too many Aussies!

At the same time he even had the gaul to say in a roundabout way it was Wigan's fault that GB were so poor against the Aussies!

Now if 1 CC Final and getting pasted in the last 50 years is something to start crowing about for Huddersfield then Wiganners deserve the right to talk/brag about 50 Major finals in the past 25 years or so!

Yes, you may be right that our success over the past 3/4 seasons has been very poor by OUR STANDARDS! But you see tht's the difference, by Hudds standards that last 2 would still have been a success story!

The reason those 4 or so you mentioned arent at Wigan is because they were simply "NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR WIGAN!". We may have been limited in our success at replacing them although I feel we have better players than all of those at Wigan at the moment even though we are poor and not playing well (You will see if you look hard enough that Wiganners actually feel it is the coaches methods who are to blame!).
Would any of those players get into the current Wigan team?? I Doubt it!
Do I lay awake at night worrying about losing any of them?? No!

You see it takes a Big Player to fill a Wigan shirt and whilst being a Big fish in a small pond may be ok for some players and going to Huddersfield may suit them and maybe even help them improve without the pressure of being at a Big Club, it doesn't mean they could Handle it at a Wigan or a Leeds for example!

Wigan are struggling a bit like Man U did for all those years when teysigned players to try and catch Liverpool but eventually they did get the right mix and look what happened then!

Wigan Will get it right at some point and I'm afraid we won't be gloating over a 3rd place qtr season and 1 CC runners up in 50 years!
