Find this hard to beleive. With Marshall on comeback, as is poor Manfredi, why sell your best winger? Well even before injuries if the deal was done then.....

He wasn't our best winger at the time the deal was likely made, or even first choice. His form improved later in the season.

On a side note with him, it was a shame to see he’s picked up a bad ankle injury and will miss a few months of the season. I don’t think injuries helped his second spell here and it’s not a good start at Salford sadly.

Had the potential to be one of the countries best wingers but his form drastically dropped as soon as he signed for the NRL.
He didn't really get a chance at the Roosters, decided to come back to Wigan but then get the opportunity for the loan move to the Rabbitos and admitted he would have preferred to stay there. So he never actually wanted to come back to Wigan.

When he returned he had lost a lot of speed (Injuries? And bulked up?)
Was making lots of basic errors
Maybe impacted by constant changing Centres who lacked quality?
Possibly reacted negatively / de-motivated to players such as Marshall, Manfredi, Davies getting picked ahead of him?
Looked uninterested at times

I think its just an accumulation of the above.

That's not true, he was in great form when he came back in 2017 and was our top try scorer including a hattrick v Cronulla. Then in 2018 he scored eight tries in eight games before he suffered that horrific injury at Widnes. He never really regained his confidence from that injury.
Even in 2019 he finished up ,as third top try scorer, averaging a try a game. I always thought that needed to run in a few long range tries to get that confidence back

Have been a few oddities at Wigan. Why was Charney cast down at his peak? Was terrifying as an opposition fan seeing him line up....
I was really relieved when Manfredi got picked ahead of him for 2015 GF. Sadly for him Dom had a stinker that day too, with at least 3 glaring errors...

Because for 6months or so in 15 Charnley's head wasn't in the game and Manfredi was BY FAR the better of the 2 with Burgess cementing the Left wing.

As for 3 x Glaring errors - Must have watched a different game to me - Wigan made 4/5 bad errors/decisions that day but Dom Manfredi's name very rarely comes into my thinking

All I remember from that game is Leeds being given a shocking try by the video ref.

Yeah. It was 6-6 at the time and it totally swung the game. It was absolutely appalling that call and it was a credit to the team and coaching staff that they didn’t make a great deal of it.

We still should’ve won the game mind and our mentality hurt us. With a little more belief we’d have won that game with a bit to spare. The aura of Leeds always winning at Old Trafford and the three legends retiring played it’s part in our mindset IMO.

Mcguire dropped it, but came out side-ways and not forwards so play on. Linesman was absolutely adjacent, camera inconclusive.... Wigan stopped playing which was a schoolboy error

X1 knock on from a great J Tomkins break and pass. Would have been away... Putting Wigan back in front.
X2 tip tackle on Hall for Leeds penalty. Second half. Ill discipline at a crucial stage...

Think was another knock on I can't recall too....
But may have partly made up for it with brilliant mid-air steel on Hall for try.
Never seen anyone out muscle Hally like that before!

Yeah I vaguely remember Tony Clubb not covering himself in glory at that precise moment either. I agree with both sides on this, it was a knock on but even kids know you play to the whistle.
