Considering he's a hooker then definitely for the right money.

| We would be silly not to enquire in my opinion. A very good player is diskin, would also further develop McIllorum
1. Sam Tomkins
6. Brett Finch
7. Thomas Leuluai
9. Matt Diskin
13. Sean O'Loughlin
would be a pretty impressive backbone of the team.

| I'd probably look at him if the price was right but sounds like its a done deal with Bradford anyway.

| No mention of a fee being paid by Bradford there, so has there been a dispute between him and McLennan and/or Hetherington?
Good player and I'm surprised to see him leaving.
Buderus is great when he plays but McShane is young yet and a lot to learn.
To me it looks like Diskin has been looking for an exit strategy, has found it and is leaving quickly.

| I can't see why Leeds are letting him go. Buderus only has another year to play and McShane is young and totally unproven. Seem's a strange move for Leeds, unless they've got something up their sleeve for 2012 when only McShane will still be a Rhino.
As for Diskin I'd take him at Wigan. A change of scenery is probably just what he needs to freshen his game up.

| Hes a good pro. Give him a low salary 1 year deal with an option to extend. If we signed Diskin or somebody along these lines then surely we wont be giving Deacon another year?

| Seems a strange one alright.
I notice he's just completed his testimonial - perhaps there has been some fall-out with the Leeds club surrounding this? I remember Terry O'Connor fell out with the club in his testimonial year a few years back.
As for whether I'd want him at Wigan - not particularly. I'm happy enough with McIlorum, Tommy and Deacon as hooking options.
Sounds like he is nailed on for Bradford anyway.

| He's off to Bradford, but would certainly have taken him.
Wonder which hooker is going from Bulls then with Heath l'estrange & Wagga there?

One of my companies makes "three year deals". This is not a three year deal. For that reason I'm out too.

| If it was the right deal for the club, like Deacon was then yes.
I'm not overly happy at having 1 senior specialist hooker at the club next year.

| I think he'd be a useful acquisition given our strengths and weaknesses, but we Wigan fans are at risk, despite everything that's happened this season, of sounding off again in that old familiar way - the moment a half-decent player comes available, wondering, with some annoyance, why we were weren't in for him.
Couldn't it just be that we can't afford him under the salary cap?

Or a 3 year deal wasn't for us.

| Turning into the Dragons Den on here. So, if the price is right, I’m in, if not I’m out. Good player, only 28 but have to watch the cap spending, but we do still need a hooker IMO.

I can see your argument, and it is valid, but my thoughts (and the reason I started the thread) are that he would be a good acquisition in what maybe a problem position for us. We could then use Deacons player salary to accommodate Diskin and allow Deacon to get more involved in the coaching regime.

| Two/three years ago under Nobby I'd have taken Diskin in a flash, knowing that he'd have some impact in the team. But now, under Madge, I have the sneaky suspicion he will have his ideal number 9 in the bag before next season. For that reason, I'm oot.

It's nice to think like this.
I'm sure the curious rumour that Tommy is going to Manly will fuel more suspicions of this nature (both Cameron Smith and James Roby were linked with us earlier in the season!!!). But I still believe that Piggy's late and unplanned departure has caused this chink to appear in our armour, rather than it being part of some clever scheme. So I suspect that having a weakness at 9 is probably something we're just going to have to live with until the next round of team-building commences, which will be for 2012.
