| What are your thoughts?
THE QUESTION BEING IS HE A FUTURE HEAD COACH?
I for one think he is. The guy has an abundance of what Wigan need. If only we had a few more with his passion.

He does own his own business and he was offered the assistant coach role with the offer of head coach when nobby had gone. Assistant wasn't big enough deal for him to leave his business so turned it down. Personally i would love to see shaun wane as wigans head coach one day. The respect the young lads have for him is fantastic.

I don't think anyone could argue with that but it's another thing as to whether the first teamers would have the same respect. If we do get rid of Noble I'd like to see us bring someone new in.

Cool. If that is the case and we do get rid of Noble then maybe give him the job for the rest of the season and see how he goes.

| Business or not i can't for one minute see Shaun Wane turning down the chance to coach his home town club.
I can't pretend to know too much about his coaching credentials but he seems to have alot of passion for the club and at the moment thats a bloody good start!!!

Bingo
That is exactly what i was hinting at. Shaun would put the W back in Wigan.
His sides wouldnt lack passion or aggression.

| The only problem with the caretaker coach scenario is that, if Wigan go out and lure a quality NRL coach at the end of the year, what happens to Shaun? If he's done a decent job, he'll feel that he's been badly done to and will probably leave the club.
On the other hand, Wigan might decide not to chase a decent Aussie, and give the job to Shaun full-time, and if - a la James Lowe - he then cocks it up, we're back at square one.
I don't personally like having caretaker coaches, though I'd acknowledge it's getting to the stage where we need to do something.

But how is he tactially? I don't think it's any coincidence that the the best drilled teams have antipodeans at the helm. Saints, Hudderfield, Leeds (top 3) all coached by Oz/NZ... Wigan, Bradford and Warringon (pre Smith) all struggling and all coached by Brits. Coincidence?

The management will have to assess his application carefully. Should it all go pear-shaped, it would be very easy for such an appointment to be seen as yet another cheap option that hasn't paid off.
My view is that we should stop with the 'possibles' and 'maybe' coaches, and go all out for someone with a proven track record at the highest level. Despite what those who hate us say, with enough money on the table, Wigan is still a big enough draw to get someone of unquestionable quality.

Ellery is one name that immediately comes to mind.

No coincidence IMO.
Tactically the Aussie and Kiwi coaches are superior.
I know it's going back a while but in our most successful period we had; Lowe, Monie & West and we cleaned up with silverware. We did have Clarke & McInnes and Murphy before that I know and it can be argued that they set the ball rolling but primarily it's been Aussie & Kiwi coaches that have led us to success.
Our most successful periods in the SL era we had Monie (for the second time), Endacott and Raper.

To be honest, Ellery wouldn't excite me at all. He's not been involved at a serious level in the game for a while. The only Brit I'd even entertain is Edwards, but I'd expert him to have to serve a brief apprenticeship first just to get him up to speed. Anyway there's no possibility of Edwards coming at present, for all the well-known reasons.
For me, it's got to be an Aussie. If possible an NRL man - if not an existing head coach, a promising NRL assistant-coach. Someone who's learned from the best and is just waiting to take charge of a team himself.

i would like to see us lure justin morgan. a fantastic coachwith limited resources at kr, yet with the passion and pride shown are out performing us this year by a mile. on paper we have a very good team, maybe not quite ready to challenge but top 4. the fault for me is how we are coached. the team looks stale under noble anf i think someone like justin who is vocal, tactically sound and recruits very well is what we need. i think he is ready to step up to a big club who need a breath of fresh air to get back to where we should be, somewhere near the top !!!!!

Totally agree on the Ellery front. As a player he was an absolute class act, but even then was prone to 'attitude' issues, which led to him being transfer listed at one time. As a coach, he's not done much in the last 10 years, which would be OK if we had a seasoned, competent, winning squad. At the moment though, we're far from that & we need a top NRL coach in his prime to turn this round.

Speaking of mike...anyone read his book? I have, and I can't believe the stuff Mo and Whelan did to him and his family!
I've not been a fan long enough to know all about it, but I was appauled by how he was treated!

Short answer is no, as much as Wane is Wigan through and through and has paid great service to the club. We might well play with more passion and aggression but passion and aggression doesn't win titles, it doesn't win cups which is what it's ultimately all about. Our best years were when we had Lowe and Monie as coaches, tactically we were untouchable, that's no coincidence. There seems to be a thing around where 'we' as fans need to see a team full of local lads, well therein lies the problem. We've got at our disposal probably the best pool of potential around but recent years has seen an inability for these lads to step up to SL to the right level. Despite having probably the strongest and most consistent youth set up around. I don't think that's a coincidence either. A club like ours needs the best rugby brain at the helm, we won't find those internally.

| Alot of people's decision to choose Wane as Noble's successor is mainly due to the fact he's an ex-Wigan player and that he happens to be a well respected Wiganer who happens to be a coach at the club, that's it. Is that really a good enough excuse to employ him as first team coach?
Do those who want Wane as coach know how he coaches, his general tactics and his decision making? I doubt it.
Personally speaking, I'd have Wane as coach for both on and off the pitch reasons. His reserve sides are very entertaining to watch and are generally well desciplined.

Exactly. Wane as assistant by all means, but we need a proven coach who will sort this rabble out.
